11/22. Liesegang rings in the female genital tract. A report of three cases.

Three cases of Liesegang rings (LRs) within the female genital tract are reported; only one similar case has been previously documented. The patients were 32-57 years of age and underwent operations for ovarian endometriosis (two cases) and uterine leiomyomas (one case). Innumerable eosinophilic, acellular, ring-like structures, similar to previously described LRs, were found on microscopic examination and were confined to an endometriotic cyst (two cases) or the mucosa of a fallopian tube involved by chronic salpingitis (one case). Liesegang rings within the female genital tract, as in other sites, occur within cysts or within areas of inflammation. These structures have been confused with and should be distinguished from parasites and foreign material on histologic examination.

12/22. Nephroblastoma in an ovotestis of a true hermaphrodite: a case report.

We describe a patient who presented with a painful mass in the left inguinoscrotal region, gynecomastia, perineal hypospadias with chordee and a bifid scrotum with a small gonad in the right hemiscrotum. At operation the left mass was found to be an ovotestis with hemorrhage in a corpus luteum cyst. A rudimentary uterus and fallopian tube were situated next to the ovotestis. The right gonad also was an ovotestis with a tiny focus of small cell malignancy that was suggestive of nephroblastoma.

13/22. The syndrome of palmar fibromatosis (fasciitis) and polyarthritis.

A 45-year-old woman developed simultaneously a form of palmar and digital fibromatosis and an unusual polyarticular disorder with painful capsular contraction. The features of the bilateral shoulder involvement were consistent with the adhesive capsulitis/frozen shoulder syndrome. The other affected joints were painfully contracted and tender but without signs of inflammation in synovial fluid (knee) or associated abnormalities in hematologic status. Histologically, there was extensive fibrosis with increased numbers of fibroblasts, dilated blood vessels and scant perivascular lymphocytic infiltration. The clinical and pathological features were similar to cases described as palmar fasciitis and polyarthritis occurring in association with malignant tumors and with antituberculous chemotherapy. Several months after removal of an endometrial cyst of the ovary and after symptomatic treatment, the palmar fibromatosis and polyarticular disorder had almost completely resolved.

14/22. Primary choriocarcinoma of the fallopian tube. Report of a case with survival and postoperative delivery. review of the literature.

A patient is presented with primary choriocarcinoma of the fallopian tube arising from a tubal pregnancy. Treatment consisted of an initial operation including adnexectomy and resection of bilateral ovarian thecalutein cysts, followed by chemotherapy. The patient delivered a healthy infant 2 years later, and is alive and well 5 years after the event.

15/22. Torsion of the fallopian tube during pregnancy.

We describe 3 cases of torsion of the Fallopian tube during pregnancy, caused by sactosalpinx, a cyst of the mesosalpinx, and an ovarian cyst. Other causes of torsion of the Fallopian tube are discussed. The difficulty of diagnosing this condition during pregnancy is emphasized.

16/22. Transperitoneal migration of the ovum. A case report.

Transperitoneal migration of ova resulting in intrauterine pregnancy is probably a common event yet rarely observed. Occasionally a woman lacks an ovary and contralateral fallopian tube; one such patient successfully carried an intrauterine pregnancy to term.

17/22. disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) during superacute haemolysis in a patient with ovarian dermatoid cyst treated with rifampicin.

A 53-year-old female patient with ovarian dermatoid cyst and lung tuberculosis had been treated with rifampicin. During repeated rifampicin treatment she developed an acute haemolytic syndrome with haemorrhagic diathesis. Laboratory findings showed that it was caused by disseminated intravascular coagulation. death ensued despite intensive administration of heparin and Trasylol. It is assumed that the repeated rifampicin application had provoked massive haemolysis by an allergic mechanism leading to thrombofibrinolytic haemorrhagic diathesis.

18/22. Painful right iliac fossa mass caused by a migrating left ovary.

A young woman presenting with right iliac fossa pain was found to have a palpable mass. Ultrasound and computed tomography demonstrated a calcified solid mass, which was extraintestinal on barium enema. laparotomy confirmed an infarcted left ovarian cyst due to torsion of an attenuated but intact fallopian tube. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of ovarian autoamputation in evolution. A migrating left ovary should be added to the differential diagnosis of a painful right iliac fossa mass.

19/22. Apocrine metaplasia: a new type of mullerian metaplasia.

Apocrine differentiation was an incidental finding in an ovarian cyst. This is considered to be a further example of Mullerian metaplasia that has not been described before and which, theoretically, could occur in any organ of Mullerian derivation (ovary, uterus, cervix or fallopian tube). It is suggested that sites of such metaplasia could in turn be the origin of primary apocrine carcinoma in any of the above locations.

20/22. Ovarian transposition with subsequent intrauterine pregnancy.

A 28-year-old married, Korean woman was diagnosed with a right unicornuate uterus, a left hypoplastic tube, and a right ovarian necrotic corpus luteal cyst. We performed a right oophorectomy and an excision of the left hypoplastic tube and then transferred the left ovary to the right broad ligament with intact vascular pedicles. Thus the remaining left ovary and right fallopian tube were placed in proximity. The patient conceived 2 months after the operation and delivered a living male infant.
