1/4. The abnormal pupil in cheyne-stokes respiration. Case report.

cheyne-stokes respiration commonly induces a rhythmic pupillary dilatation during hyperpnea and constriction during apnea. Failure of a pupil to dilate during hyperventilation indicates underlying sympathetic nerve paralysis. This report deals with an instance in which one pupil failed to constrict during apnea due to oculomotor nerve compression. The periodic respirations and anisocoria disappeared following surgical evacuation of a large ipsilateral subdural hematoma.

2/4. Preservation of consciousness in a decerebrating head injured patient.

We report a patient whose consciousness was preserved even as she developed decerebration following a head injury. Her brainstem reflexes were normal. A large left frontal haematoma was evacuated. She improved remarkably over the next 2 1/2 years.

3/4. Post-traumatic intraventricular haemorrhage: a reappraisal.

Ten patients are described in whom intraventricular bleeding occurred after blunt head injury. A mechanism is proposed to explain this phenomenon by drawing analogies with neonatal intraventricular haemorrhage and the pathological findings in strangulation. The outcome in the patients described seems more favourable than in those hitherto reported.

4/4. Bilateral chronic subdural hematomas associated with intracranial hypotension--case report.

A 56-year-old female presented with chronic subdural hematoma due to spontaneous (primary) intracranial hypotension (SIH). She was admitted in a deep coma. Computed tomography showed bilateral chronic subdural hematomas with tight basal cisterns. Percutaneous aspiration of the chronic subdural hematoma with the twist drill revealed negative pressure. The neurological symptoms rapidly improved postoperatively, but the chronic subdural hematoma recurred three times, requiring further aspiration procedures. patients with SIH may develop subdural hematoma requiring surgical treatment.
