1/8. Pursuit of the perfect mother: an unusual case of stalking.

OBJECTIVE: To highlight issues of adoption and twinship in an unusual case of stalking. CLINICAL PICTURE: An ususual case of same gender, serial stalking which began at an early age in a young woman who was one of a set of twins adopted at birth. TREATMENT: Insight orientated psychotherapy. OUTCOME: Beneficial outcome in context of clear boundaries, therapist selection and emphasis upon legal consequences of behaviour. CONCLUSIONS: Early disruptions to attachments including adoption and twinship may have relevance in some patterns of adult stalking behaviour.

2/8. goldenhar syndrome and autistic behaviour.

Two girls with concomitant goldenhar syndrome (oculo-auriculovertebral spectrum disorder) and autistic disorder are described. One was diagnosed as having goldenhar syndrome in the first few weeks of life and as having autistic disorder in her fifth year; the other was diagnosed as having goldenhar syndrome when she was referred for evaluation of autistic symptoms at seven years of age. The type of physical abnormalities encountered in goldenhar syndrome suggests damage to neural structures in the second or late stages of the first trimester. The two cases described in this report suggest that autistic disorder sometimes can result from neural damage during the second trimester.

4/8. Monozygotic twins concordant for infantile autism: follow-up.

This paper presents a well-documented case of monozygotic male twins concordant for infantile autism, with a twelve-year follow-up. Assessments include birth records, laboratory studies, physical measurements, psychometrics and quantifiable behavioural ratings by independent raters using multiple scales. Possible aetiological factors of infantile autism, as well as outcome are discussed.

5/8. Huntington's disease in monozygotic twins reared apart.

Monozygotic twins, identical by serological studies, with Huntington's disease are described who were raised in separate households from birth. Age at onset, landmarks of the disease, and behavioural abnormalities were strikingly similar. Previously reported twin studies in Huntington's disease are reviewed. Twin data support the hypothesis that age at onset and several other clinical features of the illness are substantially determined by genetic mechanisms.

6/8. Ocular motor behaviour of monozygotic twins with tyrosinase negative oculocutaneous albinism.

The involuntary nystagmus movements of 16-year-old monozygotic twins with tyrosinase negative oculocutaneous albinism were examined. On primary gaze both girls exhibited bilateral conjugate horizontal nystagmus, a jerk with extended foveation waveform, and similar frequencies (2.0 Hz:1.9 Hz), although the fast phases were in opposite directions. The mean amplitudes differed markedly (6.8 degrees:3.7 degrees), as did the position of the null zones ( 20 degrees to 30 degrees:-25 degrees to -35 degrees) and the widths of the neutral zones (-25 degrees to 20 degrees:-25 degrees to -35 degrees). Since the twins have identical genotypes these differences must have arisen from other sources.

7/8. Self-mutilation in adolescence as addictive behaviour.

Self-mutilation as addictive behaviour has been mentioned in a few studies in recent years. We present the case of a girl with narcissistic borderline personality disorder (DSM III-R: 301.83, 301.81), who undertook multiple, repetitive self-mutilating acts. Self-mutilation is discussed as addictive behaviour in this case. We emphasize the evaluation of repetitive self-mutilating acts by applying criteria for addictive and dependence disorders, in order to achieve additional adequate strategies for treating patients showing this behaviour.

8/8. comparative study of fetal behaviour in a case of monozygotic twins, one being anencephalic.

Fetal behavior in monozygotic twins, one being anencephalic, was serially recorded from 20 to 35 weeks of gestation and analyzed. The commencement of breathing movement was concluded to reflect the development of the medulla oblongata of the fetus.
