Also in the movie, A Walk to Remember, what type of leukemia does Jamie die from?
I tried looking up the one about the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and I couldn't find any specifics.

I saw A Walk to Remember ( Loved it! ) and they were not specific about it either. All they said was that she was diagnosed two years ago and stopped responding to treatments. Sorry I can't find the exact types. :(  (+ info)

My sister in law is a hypochondriac and is worried that she has leukemia. I want to take her claim seriously, but she is always worried that she has some sort of serious or terminal illness. Also, she is very overweight, and I wasn't sure if it was likely that she could have leukemia and still have a healthy appetite.
Lukemia has nothing to do with your weight that I'm aware of. Its a blood cancer. Not bone, organ or tissue.

Unless she has had her spleen removed a simple blood test would rule it out. (having no spleen would show the same results in a blood test as lukemia and not be accurate, otherwise it would be).  (+ info)

My boyfriend says that every time he brushes lately he bleeds a lot from his gums. They don't hurt at all and he has not switched toothbrushes or anything like that. It came on suddenly a few days ago. About a month ago he had pain in his arm as well. How likely is it that he may have leukemia?
I had similar thing to my gum and it end up to be that I needed cleaning for my teeth badly. after doing it, just a week or two, it has gone... also mouth smell became much better...

My grandma is in pretty good health for being 78, she had a bi-pass surgery about 6 years ago and is an active woman.

She recently had a lot pain in her leg and went to the doctor, they took a biopsy of her bone marrow and informed her that she has chronic leukemia.

She is taking medications and chemo that is costing $3000 a month. She honestly believes she is not going to make it.

What are the chances she will beat the leukemia at her age?

My grandad had leukemia a few months ago, had after a few weeks had treatment and was given the all clear. Ii was told last night that it's back and he's going for tests today to find out which type it is, whether it can be treated or not etc.... What do you think the chances are of him getting another 'all clear'?

My fiance was diagnosed with Chronic Myloid Leukemia 3 years ago and was told in September 2006 he was in remission (no known cancer cells) and I want to know if he is in remission for a period of time, would he be considered cancer free?
Never cancer free, in remission, just means it is inactive. It is unlike other types and never goes away, sorry.  (+ info)

I have chronic myelogenous leukemia. I do not have the Phillidelphia chromosone. And what are the best ways to get rid of this?
I'm sure "Kenzi" meant that the diet therapy she suggests has "cured" rather than "cursed" many people with cancer, but don't even consider non scientific diet therapy for this type of leukemia which is now very well treated with modern scientific medicine.

A good up to date medical oncologist can provide excellent treatment for CML anywhere. The medications are readily available. If you wind up being a candidate for bone marrow or stem cell transplantation, your oncologist will need to be associated with - or may refer you to - a medical center that performs these.

Most people prefer to stay close to home.
That's what I would do if I were diagnosed with CML.

The medications at M.D. Anderson in Texas are the same as the medications at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota or Massachusetts General in Boston. There are good oncologists throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

How would you explain the importance of avoiding bacterial infections to a person with leukemia?

How would you explain to a patient with leukemia, who has a greatly elevated white blood count, the importance of avoiding bacterial infections?
I agree with the others that they should have a low white blood cell count.

However, I would tell them its a matter of life or death, literally. During my leukemia treatment I got an infection while I was neutropenic. I went in to septic shock, was on life support for about two and a half weeks and very nearly almost died.  (+ info)
