Is it better to drink protein or to eat foods that have high amounts of it?

I want to consume protein to help my muscle growth. But I have questions: Is it better to drink protein (protein drinks, or add protein powder to a drink) or to eat foods with high amounts of it (I prefer meat: roasted beef/steak)? Is their any pros & cons to eating it or drinking it? Is one healthier than another. If you have any tips for me I would appreciate those too. Thank you.
----------

If you cannot get at least 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight from regular food, which many people cannot, then supplementing protein is a good idea.

Another reason people use it is for convenience. The best time for protein is within 30 min after your workout. It's easier to just mix up a shake than to cook up a steak, especially if you go to a gym.  (+ info)

What Protein bars or food is the best to maintain a fitness diet?

Basically, I want to know some good protein bars that I can take. Im 6'2 205lbs and want to stay on a good protein program.
----------

Fish especially Salmon contain essential protein that are essential for a healthy diet plus it is high in omega-3 that is good for the heart. You can also have some legumes such as Black beans, because it is also rich in protein. You can serve black beans as a side dish with dinner.

What protein powders would be good for supplementing regular diet?

I don't eat enough protein. I'm not particularly interested in eating more food. Any suggestions for getting more protein into my diet? Don't tell me about food. I know food and nutrition. I would prefer brand name suggestions. Weight loss isn't my main goal. But as a byproduct, that would be fine.

Thanks.

About the best tasting one I could find was the GNC vanilla brand:

It's cheaper than most, and you can mix it with skim milk and the sweetener of your choice and it's not bad, as far as supplements go. (I use this to get me back on track when I haven't been watching my carbs and my blood sugar gets all flaky...My family has a history of Type 2 diabetes onset at age 40, so I keep a close eye most times...if I go on vacation or get lazy, I use the protein shake to help me get my carbs under control. )

It won't help you lose weight unless you actually burn more calories, of course, but it's high density protein and pretty low cal, so you don't have take much out of your regular diet to compensate for it. I used it to prep for a PT test to help my muscles recover faster when I was in my more intense military schools.

For weight loss, if you're working out at all, I would recommend upping your protein to 60% and lowering carbs to 30% (you need SOME carbs to regulate mood and brain function, as we know ...XD..don't want to get like you know who....) and keeping your calorie count (well, for you, because you're a little thing) around 1400...I keep mine around 1600 and drop it to 1400 if I need to jump-start my program.)...if your walking or jogging consistently, that will strip the weight right off of you.  (+ info)

What kind of protein supplements should i get?

I am 15 tall and really thin. I am going to start doing weights shortly and i have two options for a protein shake, there is this ultra ripped protein and mass muscle gain protein. Which one is best for me, i want a phsyque like ripped and big aswell, which one should i do first try and get ripped or try and get big?

Yes, I think supplements are a good thing, but you are young, and your body is still developing. Why not eat more protein, instead of taking pills/shakes? Or eat a balanced diet/high protein diet, and drink protein shakes?

What protein is lean protein to avoid building bulky muscles?

I'm 16 years old and recently taken to the habit (in the past year built up) to running every day nearly. I usually run around 2-4 miles a day but I've been trying to drop bulky muscle in my legs and everywhere and slim out my body. I was wondering what kind of protein and foods should I eat or stay away from to avoid building bulky muscles? I tend to stay away from packaged foods but I need a boost.
----------

... Forget everything you think you know about eating protein and building muscle.

You can eat anything you want, and if you continue running, you will eventually slim out your whole body. And i doubt its 'bulky' 'muscle' in your leg, just fat.  (+ info)

How do you maintain sufficient protein throughout the day?

A holistic nutritional counselor suggested that I include protein with every meal. I've been eating fruits and vegetables, but infrequent small quantities of beans and rice. I understand that by eating protein, you can stabilize your blood sugar levels.

As a vegan, do you make sure to include protein in every meal? If so, how do you do it?

Beans & rice?
Nut butters?
Nuts?
Avocado?
Supplements?

Do you watch protein intake at each meal?

good question I am having everyday 10-15 almonds, love to have chickpea, and bean salad and also supplements too..my fav avocado salad

What foods have a lot of protein and what are ways to make them?

I'm supposed to eat more protein the doctor said. What are foods that have a large amount of protein and what are some easy ways to make them. I'm willing to eat fish if that has protein.

Also, does anyone know how much protein a person should consume daily?
----------

O.K., foods such as chicken breast, turkey breast and ground turkey, pot roast, and fish such as Talapia are all high in protein.

Pot roast has more fat, as does ground turkey.

Chicken breast and Talapia do not.

Regarding cooking, for chicken breast, grilling in a skillet with low-fat butter and diced garlic, and sprinkle with pepper and lemon juice when you remove it. Add veggies, or even fruit alongside as side dish.

For Talapia, this is a fish that is NOT that pungent, and actually soaks up the flavors and spices of what you add to it. Actually, the same process as above for the chicken breast is also effective! I add a dash of paprika to the Talapia or Mrs. Dash's varieties of salt-free spices.

Whey proteins, such as those found in some fruit protein drinks will give you an immediate protein boost, and taste good, BUT have a lot of sugar.

Tofu, while laughed at by many, is a good source, and you can add it to anything, as it is bland, but is great as a topping for salads, or to mix in with chili. You won't notice it's there; it just soaks up the flavors. It's soybean, diced.

Beans, red beans in particular, are high in protein and fiber. You can make a chili with red beans and ground turkey yourself, that way you stay away from the sodium you find in canned chili.

Cheese and cottage cheese are high sources of protein.

Eggs are high sources of protein.

Good luck, but watch the fat content which accompanies proteins.  (+ info)

How much protein do I need to build large muscle?

I am currently underweight, and my goal is to bulk up on large muscle mass. What is a good amount of protein to consume in a day? I had about 60g of protein today, is that enough or do I need a lot more?
----------

in order to gain weight and bulk at the same time is to consume more calories then you burn. The amount of protein should be 1.5g of protein per pound of weight. If you weight 150/1.5=225g throughout 6 meals=37.5g of protein per meal. Lift heavy weights with 4 sets low reps. After the workout consume whey protein with water add some creatine and a gatorade or a banana to spike insulin to deliver the protein into the muscle. an hour after consuming the whey eat a meal maybe some chicken breast with rice for carbs.  (+ info)
