1/3. Laryngotracheal hypoplasia--a rare cause of difficult intubation.

Generalized hypoplasia of the larynx and trachea is a very rare condition with only one case reported in the literature. A pregnant woman presented for an emergency laparotomy under general anaesthesia. Endotracheal intubation with conventional sizes of tracheal tubes failed, despite a Cormack and Lehane grade I laryngoscopic view. Subsequent investigations demonstrated generalized hypoplasia of the larynx and trachea. In this report, successful anaesthetic management of this case is discussed along with other possible options.

2/3. uterine rupture associated with the use of vaginal prostaglandin E2 suppositories.

The authors present an obstetrical case of silent uterine rupture due to prostaglandin E2 vaginal suppositories. Although this complication has been reported in the obstetrical literature, lack of attention to it in the anaesthesia literature, causes us to call this problem to the attention of anaesthetists.

3/3. Rupture of the uterus during labor without apparent cause.

Spontaneous uterine rupture at term during labor of a non-scarred uterus under epidural anaesthesia is reported in a 17-yr-old primigravida. This exceptional event may lead to catastrophic maternal and fetal consequences. The authors discuss the prevention and diagnosis of this obstetrical complication.
