1/2. Tumour lysis syndrome during anaesthesia.We describe a child who developed acidosis, hyperkalaemia and cyanosis while emerging from an otherwise uneventful anaesthetic. A diagnosis of tumour lysis syndrome was suspected and confirmed biochemically. Hypomagnesaemia associated with diabetes mellitus may cause laryngospasm.This report describes the case of a female diabetic patient who experienced two episodes of severe laryngospasm during maintenance of anaesthesia and also 1 h post-operatively. The most probable diagnosis considered was severe hypomagnesaemia with concomitant hypocalcaemia confirmed by electrolyte measurements.
