1/5. female genitalia hydatidosis herniating to the inguinal canal.

Hydatid disease of the female genitalia presents a rare problem in gynecology formerly limited to only a few parts of the world. Primary pelvic hydatidosis is uncommon, and its pathogenesis remains unclear. We report one case of primary hydatid cysts and another case of secondary hydatid cysts of the female genitalia that herniated to the inguinal canal.

2/5. female hydrocele of the canal of Nuck: a case report.

The processus vaginalis is an evagination of parietal peritoneum which accompanies the round ligament through the inguinal ring into the inguinal canal. The portion of processus vaginalis within the inguinal canal in women is called 'the canal of Nuck'. When the processus vaginalis fails to close, it can result in a hernia or hydrocele, both in women and men. female hydrocele of the canal of Nuck is uncommon. A literature search revealed that little has been published on this condition. We present a case of a hydrocele of the canal of Nuck in a 5-month-old female infant.

3/5. Localized genital edema in patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

Localized genital edema occurred in 8 of 81 patients (10 per cent) undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Underlying causes included defects in the inguinal canal and noninguinal peritoneal leaks that were localized with clinical, radiographic and scintigraphic techniques. Management included temporary cessation of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis exchanges in half of the patients, particularly those with recently inserted catheters. Surgical repair was recommended in all cases when inguinal defects were identified. edema resolved permanently in 6 patients and all patients were able to remain on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

4/5. Isolation of neisseria meningitidis from anogenital sites in adolescents: clinical implications.

neisseria meningitidis is being increasingly isolated from the urethra, cervix, and anal canal of sexually active individuals. We found a similar phenomenon in inner-city black and Hispanic adolescents. In 1981, cultures of 92 isolates of Neisseria were made from the anogenital region of sexually active adolescents; 81 (88.0%) were N. gonorrhoeae, 3 (3.3%) could not be speciated, and 8 (8.7%) were N. meningitidis. Since N. meningitidis has been associated with urethritis and pelvic inflammatory disease, it should be considered a pathogen when identified in the urethra or cervix and should be appropriately treated. The health implications of isolating N. meningitidis from the anal canal are less clear, although it has been rarely associated with proctitis. Neisseria isolates from anogenital sites cannot be assumed to be gonococci and, therefore, should be distinguished from N. meningitidis.
