Tinea Capitis?

I've had tinea capitis for a long time now. I keep getting treatment, but always have to stop for some reason (no access to medicine, high medicine costs). I'm losing hair and am really concerned. My question is, with continued treatment will it ever permanently go away, and will my hair grow back?
----------

The fungi that cause tinea infections thrive in warm, moist areas. You have an increased risk for tinea infection if you have poor hygiene, prolonged wetness of the skin (such as from sweating), and minor skin or scalp injuries.
Tinea infections are contagious. You can catch it if you come into direct contact with someone who has the condition, or if you touch contaminated items such as combs, hats, clothing, or similar surfaces. The infection can also be spread by pets, particularly cats.

Tinea Capitis is a hair infection (ringworm) its awful please help me if you can
----------

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that tinea capitis needs medication that you take by mouth...no topical medication works for this. The problem is that most of the oral medications are not recommended for children. Take her to a dermatologist...they are more educated in the use of these particular type of drugs and tinea capitis.  (+ info)

Tinea Capitis(ringworm of the scalp)?

My daughter has tinea capitis(ringworm of the scalp). She has been on antibiotics and have been using an topical cream as well. Today the scabs came off and the area was really inflammed. Is this a part of the healing process? Do I continue the topical treatment or not? If not, What do I need to use on the area now?
----------

The inflamed area in your child's scalp is called a "kerion" - it's a complication in tinea capitis believed to be caused by a child's hypersensitivity to the ringworm infection and may be associated with rash elsewhere in the body and tender lymph nodes in the neck. The ringworm isn't healing yet.

Topical creams may not be effective to treat tinea capitis, the cream will not be able to reach the deeper areas in the roots of the hair where the fungal organisms are concentrated. The doctor will probably prescribe oral medication (Fluconazole, Itraconazole, Terbinafine, or Griseofulvin) for your child at this point, which is the only effective method to counter this type of ringworm infection.  (+ info)

Ringworm on scalp or Tinea capitis please help!?

I noticed yesterday that on the back of my scalp I have an area with no hair, so I went to the doctor today and he gave me medicine. My question is how long will it take for my hair to grow back? Please if there is any natural something that will make my hair grow faster tell me please. I really want my hair back to normal :(
Im 17 years old

Are you sure it's tinea capitis? That is not a common disorder of adults, but would rather suspect something like alopecia areata. Was a scraping or culture obtained? Depending upon the true nature of the disease, the answer as to regrowing hair will be different from one disorder to the other.  (+ info)
