What is a nickname for Michael Thomas Boyd III?

We are planning on naming our child Michael Thomas Boyd III. What is a good nickname? My father in law is Mike and my husband is Mikey.

I like the person who suggested Tre!

Once your son is here, you may come up w/ a completely different name for a nickname. When I was little, my parents called me Punky, which has nothing to do w/ my actual name. Same w/ my brother; he was always called Clyde, though his name's Kevin.  (+ info)

What is a CHEM III ordered for my chart says edema in one place dementia in another?

Doing my care plans , I'm a nursing student 1st semester, pt has a CHEM III ordered, every 180 days, one place in chart says for edema and other says for senile dementia? Can not find info anywhere? and she does 1:1 conference and asks all surfaces of labs, meds etc... can not find this one however?
----------

There are different chem panels ordered. In the US, the most common are chem 8 (aka BMP) and Chem 12s (aka CMPs). Chem 8's check electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Chloride) and kidney function (BUN and Creatinine). CMPs also test liver function tests. There are many reasons to check these tests. For edema, sodium and renal/ liver function is important to check.  (+ info)

What happens after phase III trials are finished for FDA approval?

If a drug passes phase III trials is it able to be sold when it is in phase IV or does it have to go through the long process of phase IV? I thought phase IV was just a watchout just in case something happens and it will be pulled immediately off the market. Don't know though does anyone else?
but isn't phase IV being conducted while the medicine is already released to the public?
----------

Drugs don't necessarily have to go through phase IV studies to get approved by the FDA. Sometimes the FDA will want more information on the drug and they will require a phase IV, but not always.  (+ info)

How often does CIN III reappear after a Leep is done?

I had a Leep procedure done 2 weeks ago, and yesterday I had my first check up for it. I also got my biopsy results and the pre cancerous cells they removed were CIN III. I was just wondering how often does CIN III return after someone has a Leep procedure? My OB/GYN wants to see me in six months to make sure everything is healed, but I need to know if it can return.

Since the virus (HPV) that is thought to be a cause of dysplasia is not killed by the treatment, there is always a chance of recurrence. ONLY THE ABNORMAL CELLS ARE KILLED BY TREATMENT. Usually a recurrence will not be a serious problem if it is detected early, but it can eventually develop into cancer if it is not treated.

http://www.mjbovo.com/Women/Dysplasia.htm

The prognosis for cervical dysplasia is excellent. About 70% of mild dysplasia cases resolve on their own, and most dysplasia is curable with proper treatment and follow-up.

Why is Oxycodone a schedule II and Hydrocodone a Schedule III?

I understand the schedule definitions but I don't understand why Oxycodone is a schedule II and Hydrocodone is a schedule III? I don't see much difference between a percoset 10 Oxycodone/500 Tylenol and a Loratab 10 Hydrocodone/500 Tylenol. Anybody have a reasonable answer? Maybe a DR or pharmacist?
----------

I've been treated with both and I find the classification to be very accurate, Oxycodone is much more addictive and the withdrawal symptoms are much worse when you cease taking the med. I thought Vicodin/Lortab/Lorcet/Norco withdrawal was horrible until I had experienced oxy withdrawal. Also I noticed that with oxy it takes a very short time to become both physically dependant and psychologically addicted whereas it took longer with the hydrocodone

This is the applicable defination by government standards if anyone is curious.

Schedule 2 :
'Abuse of the drug or other substances may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence."
Schedule 3:
"Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence. "  (+ info)

What about the Phase III clinical trials with dimebon (dimebolon) in Alzheimer's disease?

These Phase III trials take a long time to complete. Meanwhile, is it impossible to use this drug under a compassionate use program just as we did for AIDS ? The only known advantage of Alzheimer's disease over AIDS is not being contagious. But costs are huge, perhaps more than associated with AIDS. Please DO NOT think only the patients, think the caregivers and social/medical burden of Alzheimer's disease also.
----------

Well, I had not heard of dimebolon till you mentioned it.

I do know how hard it is to get Alz drugs of any kind. When my mother was first diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia, I was reeling in shock at the news. I knew nothing about it. I said to the specialist, "Is there anything to slow it down?" and was promptly shown the door! No answer of any kind, nothing. He just got up and opened the door. And I, in my shock, just went out of it like a lost sheep.

It was only afterwards that I discovered the NHS in the UK had a policy of not giving drugs to patients that were in the first stages.

But I kept on till I got my mother on Aricept. It proved to be very beneficial in her case, and even though it's reported to give only a couple of years more quality, it has kept my mother remembering who we all are for seven years now. Before that, she mixed up names and thought my brother was my father. And I am happy to say, she is doing well to date.

Considering the number of people suffering from this disease, and considering the devastation of it, I just find it unfathomable that any drug would be overly delayed in reaching patients.

I find it even more unfathomable that the cost of these drugs should be an issue. The banks have seen a big cash injection from the government. To me it's obscene that it denies patients a drug that can help just because of the money it costs -- a few pounds a week. And then doesn't even give them the option of buying it themselves.

Sorry to vent, but when it's a loved one, you can't help it.  (+ info)

What happens after the phase III trials? Can a drug be marketed then?

----------

After three phases of clinical trials, the company then submits all the data from the three phases to the FDA, along with a new drug application (NDA). These reports typically contain over one hundred thousand pages, and the FDA is given a total of six months to review all the safety and efficacy data. Once the data is examined, FDA researchers present their findings to an advisory committee made up of FDA key officers, doctors, consumer advocates, and other parties who may have an interest in whether or not the drug is approved. Ultimately, it is up to a vote of this advisory committee to decide if a drug earns approval based on clinical data.  (+ info)
