What are the symptoms of hemangiosarcoma?

After reading several posts about a dog with hemangiosarcoma, I'm now actually starting to become worried about this. Can anybody tell me the symptoms of hemangiosarcoma? I have a small mixed breed that is getting older and his health is a bit priority of mine. I want to know the symptoms of this disease so I can prevent anything bad from happening to him...or at least catch it in time. If anyone knows...thanks!

Hemangiosarcomas can occur anywhere on or in the body, but primarily are present in the spleen, liver, heart, and skin.  (+ info)

How is hemangiosarcoma diagnosed?

Just wondering how hemangiosarcoma is diagnosed. How do doctors/veterinarians know that someone has it? Do they do x-rays or what?
----------

Once a tumor is suspected, abdominal and chest x-rays are often performed to determine the extent of organ involvement and whether or not metastasis is present.  (+ info)

my dog nellie has dermal hemangiosarcoma. what can i do to prevent spread? tumor fully excised.?

the vet & lab said the tumor was completely excised. she is part-whippet, white short-hair and spends most of her time outside in the yard. don't know if the disease has spread internally; no signs of this (though i know it may not show up til too late). any suggestions of what to do to learn if there is any more spread, and to keep her well?

Not much you can do:take good care of her and i will tell you what the Dr said:even if she could have saved my dogs life by removing the spleen(it was a tumour on the spleen)
she said it may have given my dog another 5-6months.
spend time with your dog give her some nice toys or treats.  (+ info)

What is prednisone supposed to help with immunohemolytic anemia and hemangiosarcoma?

My dog collapsed in the car about 10 days ago. I am told that was the absolute onset of his illness. The vet, yesterday, diagnosed this by ultrasound, giving him 1 day to "he won't see much of summer for light swimming". Is it possible to develop so many large tumours, beginning on the spleen, but now within the stomach wall, in just 10 days? Also, one person said he will not be in pain, another said he will, but that the Prednisone will make him more comfortable.

All he has done is pee today, which is great, because he hadn't been. Is this like a diuretic? He didn't make it outside through the night and he went huge 3 times between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Any information on this illness and any treatments to keep him comfortable will be so very appreciated. He was "upper" today than yesterday.
Thanks, Sheryl
