How contagious is a mild case of strep throat after 8 hours of antibiotics?

I went to the doctor today and have been diagnosed with strep throat.
I've been on antibiotics for 8 hours now, and i was wondering how contagious I still am? I was planning on going to a football game tonight.

please help, thank you.
----------

Sorry, you're still contagious. Wait until 24-48 hours after having been on your antibiotic. You really wouldn't want to give this painful infection to other people, would you?  (+ info)

How long are you contagious for when disgnosed with a staph infection?

Step-daughter was taken to dr on Friday and given a shot for a staph infection. Husband is supposed to pick her up tomorrow afternoon. Is she still contagious? She gets impetigo at least twice a year if not more. I would rather not have her come and infect my son or myself if she is still contagious.
----------

It is highly contagious but only with contact, meaning as long as the area is completely covered, she does not touch it or spread it, then you should be fine. However if she is to be using the showers or the infected area is one that will often touch materials others will be around (such as a leg against the couch vs on the back, bandaged and covered by her shirt) you should be more concerned. Wash the towels and clothes she uses right away, as well as any razors or toiletries. Any puss drainage can go threw clothes, get on bed linens etc if not watched. The area must be kept clean and dry. But it is contagious for awhile; you need a docotr and a blood test to confirm it is indeed gone.  (+ info)

How long is someone contagious when they have the flu?

My husband has had flu symptoms for 4 days, but me and my kids haven't caught it. We aren't being all that careful, no masks around the house, but we're not kissing or sharing cups or anything. Do you think he's not contagious anymore? Can we all go to a vacay with the extended family without feeling like we're endangering their health?
----------

How long does Norovirus stay contagious once it has been transferred to an object and not another body?

This virus, from what I understand, is highly contagious from person to person. How long does the virus live on toilets, door handles, phones etc? How long does it live when it is airborn? Can you breath the virus and contract it? How long does it last once you have it?
----------

It is said that the virus can live on a surface anywhere from 24-72 hours.

Prevention:

Norwalk virus"
(Just remember that hand sanitizers will not kill this virus.House hold cleaners such as Lysol will also not kill you.You must use bleach.)

The Norwalk virus causes viral Gastroenteritis which is known as the nasty 24 hour bug that causes explosive and sudden diarrhea and projectile vomiting.Usually non life threating but can cause complications in the very young, elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

PREVENTION-Wash your hands before preparing food/eating food and most importantly, TOUCHING YOUR MOUTH/NOSE/EYES.

The ONLY way to become infected with this virus is if you ingest the contaminated fecal/vomit particles through your eyes, nose and mouth.

It is impossible to "breathe" in the virus BUT possible to become infected by breathing in aerosol "spray" droplets from someone vomiting right next to you.(the droplets settle within minuted but can still infect someone until cleaned with bleach)

Even if your whole family breaks out with this virus, you can prevent it by washing your hands for at least 15-20 seconds with warm water and soap.Remember that you are not killing the virus, you are washing it down the drain even if you use an antibacterial soap (which only kills bacteria, not viruses) hand sanitizers are also not successful in killing the virus.

If a member of your family comes down with the virus, let them know to wash their hands AFTER a bowel movement and vomiting.

To clean infected areas, clean with BLEACH.Clean bathrooms (all infected areas) with a bleach solution as soon as possible and be sure to prevent cross contamination and wash your hands afterwards.Especially children! wipe down all commonly touched objects like door knobs, faucet handles, light switches, toilet flushers etc.

People are STILL contagious even after 24 hours after their symptoms settle down so it is always important to wash your hands after the rest room (which you should do anyways!)

The key to staying Norwalk virus free is to keep sanitary.Wash your hands after using the bathroom...you could prevent other peoples misery as well as yours!!

TIPS:Do not share any cups/plates/utensils with an infected person and be sure to wash in a bleach solution to prevent cross contamination with the rest of your family.  (+ info)

How long is a person contagious after being sick with the stomach flu?

My friend got sick on Tues and was still sick Wed but woke up Thurs morning and is feeling better...is she still contagious? I really don't want to go on my 30 hour plane ride in a few days sick!
----------

There is no stomach flu. Because this is a GI problem, as long as you don't come into contact with stool-infected surfaces and as long as you don't kiss this friend on the lips or share food or drink, you're not likely to contract the virus. Just use common sense and wash your hands frequently and especially before eating around your friend.  (+ info)
