How many mental disorders ask about here are caused by excessive alcohol consumption?

How many readers of this question do not consider themselves as having a "problem" with alcohol?

Excessive alcohol consumption is just that. "Disorders" and life disarray that typically occurs in combination with alcohol consumption-- may not constitute real "mental disorder."

Excessive consumption can be just an attempt to "self medicate" by consuming a substance that allows one not to think. Or forget for a while. Or imagine that one can "make it go away." Pharmaceutical companies totally endorse all kinds of pills. Alcohol is legally obtainable.

"Are you unhappy?" Does your life suck? Ask your docter about anti-depressants. You may need them - because it's not real -- just buy these pills and you will be happy again. Your life will be OK."

Or --- "Does your child have ADHD??? You should give them our pills instead of your time and less sugar-coated cereal and "juicy" juice....."

Juiced.

"Mental disorder", in my opinion, refers to conditions that can exist not directly due to substance abuse. Totally separate thing.

Most commonly, for whatever individual reason, sometimes life is just too gosh-darned heavy to handle - substance abuse offers the same as "burying one's head in pillow."

I think that "mental disorders" range from truly clinical conditions that are individually challenging and varied -- just like any other physical characteristic or attribute or challenge.

On the other hand -- excessive alcohol consumption is typically a "result," -- or at least, a typical culprit involved in cultivating life-disorder, in general.

Can also tend to magnify otherwise unnoticeable tendencies, in the process. Example, does anyone recall what's-his-name, the black comedian .... not Bill Cosby..... Geez! I'm having trouble -- just keeps slipping my mind -- must be a symptom of menopause.... (mental disorder!)

Oh Yeah! Richard Pryor! When he said, "Cocaine "amplifies" you personality..... so what if you are already an _ _ _- hole?"

But I think I know what you're driving at -- I am no qualified "professional," however I do understand and believe that "mentality" is a complex concept and any dis - order cannot always be attributable only due to excessive alcohol consumption.  (+ info)

Mental disorders involving excessive attachment?

Does excessive drinking cause thought disorders?

After many years of alcoholism, I stopped drinking about three years ago. The mixed-up thoughts I had while drinking are still with me. Like mixing-up the words in a sentence while I am speaking, as IF I was drunk.
Example; I would see a mounted Police officer. If someone asked about it. I would likely word it: "Horse, man police ride"
----------

Well in actuality, excessive drinking does cause a great deal of many physical problems. However, it has not been known to cause "thought disorders" per say. It can be an indirect reaction to other disturbances that you've gone through due to you quitting drinking. Stress, which can be caused by the alchoholism can lead to thought disruptions. Good luck.  (+ info)
