What causes brain fog and muscle twitching?

I have both symptoms and it's really bothering me. I've been have them for several years now. My brain fog is the worst because it's hard for me to focus and concentrate. It also makes it difficult to drive because my debt perception is really off and i tend to zone out excessively.
----------

I'm going to give you the answer and you're PROBABLY not going to believe me but whatever I'll tell you anyways. IT'S AN EXCESS OF CORTISOL PRODUCTION IN YOUR BRAIN which literally translates to STRESS. Sorry for the vocal response. I've been suffering from this for quite some time now myself. It's getting better though. Hang in there, exercise, reform your diet, and remain strong. You'll be fine.

How can I retrain my brain to find fruit a satisfying dessert?

I was taught as a child that dessert equals chocolate, or candy, or ice cream, or some sort of processed sweet. I've been trying to eat healthier over the past couple years, cutting out junk food, but I can't seem to get it out of my brain that dessert equals sugary sweet. How can I retrain my brain to view fruits as dessert, as opposed to sweets?
----------

Try making it a mix of both worlds- finding sweet 'alternatives' as desserts and consuming them 'with' fruits.

Ideas:

- Cottage cheese/ yoghurt with dried fruit/ fresh berries
- Trail mix- dried fruit, nuts/ seeds and pretzels/ wholegrain cereal
- Cereal (mini wheats/ wholegrain- fiber cereals) with hot milk/ milk and fresh fruits/ dried fruits
- Wholegrain/ fiber granola bars (kashi, all bran, nature valley, fiber one, etc ..)
- Hot oatmeal with a tbsp of crunchy peanut butter and fresh/ dried fruits
- Fresh fruit- banana/ apple with 1-2tbsp natural smooth/ crunchy peanut butter or nutella
- Canned/ sliced fruit (apples/ peaches/ bananas/ etc ..) with 1 tbsp cinnamain/ brown sugar in a microwaveable steamer bag heated for one minute. (consume with the optional scoop of lowfat/ skimmed icecream)
- Digestive/ bran cookies with fresh fruit
- Grahm crackers/ baby cookies with fresh fruit
- Granola/ musili with dried- fresh fruit and optional yoghurt or milk
- Applesauce
- Lowfat frozen yoghurt with canned/ dried/ fresh fruits or applesauce/ hot fruits.
- Apple/ peach crumble 'homemade- lowfat recipes- google'
- Fruit salad with sweetner/ cinnamain and wholegrain cereal/ wheat germ or bran buds, etc ..

Hope i'v helped, goodluck!  (+ info)

Does anything happen to the brain cells if you smoke marijuana on a regular basis?

I know someone who smoke marijuana on a regular basis (everyday) and they tell me nothing can happen to your brain cells is that true? How does marijuana affect the brain and body as a whole. If anyone knows please let me know.
----------

If regular pot smoking caused as much brain cell damage as some folks claim, I should be dead, or at least a blithering idiot by now. Actually, recent studies have shown that smokers show an increase in brain cell development that may prove to be of use in Alzheimer's disease since it seems to stimulate brain cell growth. Another study shows that THC may be a cancer inhibiting drug and may actually help prevent or reduce lung and other cancers. These kinds of study results are not what our government wants you to hear, but it seems that with each new study the benefits are beginning to outweigh the claimed harm. The illegal status of the drug has a long history based on racism and corporate greed, not on any real scientific study. Prohibition still doesn't work, but lines the pockets of law enforcement and rehab centers at the taxpayers expense. It forces law abiding citizens to deny themselves a true medicine and forces them to support big pharmaceuticals in the production of far more harmful, but legal, drugs.  (+ info)

What causes brain pressure when you have a concussion?

When a person gets hit in the head and sustains a concussion. Lets say they are knocked out for 5-10 minutes. What might cause the brain to swell and cause pressure? is it always accompanied by bleeding on the brain? what operation will be needed to relieve this pressure and what would be the recovery from surgery to relieve pressure on the brain?
----------

Any time a person is unconscious after a blow to the head, they NEED to see a doctor - head trauma can be fatal, even if it appears minor.

When the skull is struck, the force of the blow moves the skull violently in the direction of the force. The brain, however, is much slower to move, so the inside of the skull smacks into the brain and propels it forward in the same direction as the force. Then the head stops moving, and may even move backwards, but the brain does not stop until it again strikes the inside of the skull on the side opposite the blow.

So the brain can be injured in two places - at the site of the blow and on the opposite side to the blow.

The brain can respond like any other tissue that is damaged, by swelling. If increased intra-cranial pressure occurs, there are a couple of options depending on the cause of the increased pressure - drilling one or more small holes in the skull to allow extra fluid to drain out, or, much more serious, cutting away part of the skull to allow the brain to swell without the confinement of the hard skull - that in itself can be fatal. It may be possible to replace the same piece of bone back into place in the skull, or the space may be filled with a metal plate - depends on lots of factors.

There are various drugs that can be given that may help to prevent, reduce or shorten the time when there is increased pressure, but they do not always work.

Brain bleeding does not necessarily come along with a concussion.  (+ info)

What will weed do to my brain if I am recovering from a very traumatic brain injury?

By very traumatic I mean multiple brain contusions, skull fractures, broken bones in my ear, and double vision. Do you think it will hinder my recovery? The doctor said don't do any drugs, but you would think that every doctor would tell you NOT to do drugs... Right?
----------

I was just in your situation last year, minus the contusions and broken ear-bones. I agree that smoking anything will slow your recovery, simply from the tar and carbon monoxide, but if you use a vaporizer, you don't have to worry about inhaling combustion products.

I started smoking weed again about 2 months after my injury. It helped me wean off of the strong pain meds I was given, made a massive positive difference in my mood, and helped me deal with the psychological trauma stemming from the incident. As for the physiological effects of weed on an injured brain, here's something that you should read:

"Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon found that the administration of synthetic cannabinoids in rats stimulated the proliferation of newborn neurons (nerve cells) in the hippocampus region of the brain and significantly reduced measures of anxiety and depression-like behavior."

It did for me what it sounds like it did for those rats. I wish I could have taken part in a study to test the efficacy on human neurogenesis. The bottom line is you sound like you have a lot on your mind and you have a long way to go. In my experience, smoking weed with these kinds of injuries is the least of your worries. Relax. Stress is much worse for you right now. Just make sure you use your brain. Watch Discovery or other educational programs while you are recovering and don't let the onset of ADD and working-memory deficits get you down.

Optimism: Now you get to see the world in a new light.  (+ info)

How does your brain automatically calibrate to a computer mouse?

It takes no effort to determine where you want to get the clicker and get it there. However, with a razor in a mirror, and in other situations, your brain can't do the same thing, why?
----------

because when you are looking at yourself in the mirror the image you see is backwards to the real thing making your brain really try to adjust to situation (very easily when not using a mirror) so quickly but the directions its used to are now the opposite while looking in the mirror and while the brain is adjusting it already sent the signal to the wrong side that you wanted ( i.e. use you left arm for the left side of your face but its actually your right arm and the right side of you face.) so things like that confuse the brain even if they occur everyday because you are only in that situation for a couple of minutes  (+ info)

How much alcohol does one need to drink to get brain damage?

I am 21 years old. I have drank alcohol about 10 times or so. The last time I drank was a year ago. I never want to have a drop of alcohol again because I have heard it causes brain damage.

Do you think I have brain damage from drinking 10 times? I have had a few nights in which I did not remember everything.

How many times does one need to drink alcohol before having permanent brain shrinkage/damage?
----------

well, it will be your liver that is going to suffer first...

brain damage is rather relative: its the nerve cell death, happens every time you drink, especially if it is low quality alcohol.

i don’t think 10 times can make such a difference, and considering the time of abstinence, you should be fully recovered by now.  (+ info)
