My grandmother has ischemia in the right side of her brain. Will this eventually shut down other vital organs?

She has lost a lot of cognitive function very quickly. In less than a week she has gotten to where she doesn't know who family members are and she is very concerned about numbers...dates, baseball scores, television channels, she keeps counting to 6 over and over.

Cerebral ischemia.

The brain isn't getting enough blood; blood carries oxygen, so the brain isn't getting enough oxygen.

Because of not getting enough oxygen, brain cells die, one by one, but they die. If the iscemia is on the right side of her brain, I'd bet that her right carotid artery is close to completely blocked.

As far as shutting down other vital organs, the vascular condition which caused the ischemia (atherosclerosis, high blood pressure?) has been/ and is still likely to be affecting her other vital organs

my husband had dementia MRI showed microvascular ischemia which with further investigation was linked to marijuana use. when he stopped the dementia stopped.now he had his teeth pulled and has been on pain meds and the dementia has returned. dementia happens when he is NOT under the influence of drugs. Also he had a head ache that doctors attribute to a "mini stroke" just prior to the dementia's return.
I realize ischemia is causing the symptoms but could pain medicine be triggering the ischemia? I too am a nurse.

I really need to know what are the symptoms of inferior ischemia and what can cause this kind of heart disease. Is it serious and can it be cured? Is this something that comes before heart attack? Please can someone answer.
inferior ischemia means loss of blood supply to the inferior wall of the left ventricle. the leads on the ekg which would have detected this would be leads 2, 3 and AVF and the t wave will be inverted in these leads. so which arteries supply the inferior wall of the left ventricle ? they are the right coronary artery and the left circumflex coronary artery. so either one of these 2 or both of them is blocked. and yes it can be cured but you need to hurry up and go to the cardiologist before it becomes an infarction  (+ info)

How are cardiac ischemia and shortness of breath related?

I have had significant shortness of breath and am being treated with inhalers, nebulizer and meds. EKG and chemical stress test results said "provocable ischemia of interior (anterior?) wall ". Haven't gotten results of echocardiogram yet. I had it done 3 weeks ago, shouldn't I have heard something from my PCP by now whether it be good or bad? I am scheduled to see a cardiologist next week. Am I to assume that cardiologist will read echo before I am to see him and that is the way I will get the results?

Recently I visited eye doctor as my son is having a squinted eye. After so many tests doctor found out that the back portion of the eye is swollen and he has to undergo MRI. After I search on the internet I found that the swelling could be caused by cerebral ischemia. I am very much worried now as my son is 3 yrs old only now. The buildup of atheroma or fatty plaque in the wall of the coronary artery narrows the lumen of the artery resulting in ischemia or inadequate blood flow to the heart. The atheroma may ulcerate releasing materials that cause blood to clot on the surface of the plaque. What is the difference between metastasized brain cancer and cancer that started in the brain?

My mother had lung cancer a year ago and although it has not returned, she now has a tumor in her brain the size of a dime. It is cancerous .... so what is the prognosis and what is the difference between this type of brain cancer (where it originated in the lungs) and brain cancer that originiates in the brain. Also, what is the prognosis?
Cancer originating in a particular organ for the first time is called Primary neoplasm.

Metastasis is its secondary spread through blood or lymph.

Prognosis really depends on histological type of the cancer but metastasis generally requires more aggressive treatment in the form of chemo & radio because it is wide-spread.
