Ankle injuries???

I went over my ankle badly yesterday, and it gave out a huge crunch and pop. Ive rested it and put ice on it. Although its not swollen badly, the bruising is horrendous, and my foot is cold and feel like pins and needles constantly. There also feels like my heel is crunching a bit. I have some movement in it, although it feels 'stiff and thick', and it is sore. Im off the A & E when my hubby comes home in 30 minutes, to be on the safe side.

Any ideas what Ive done to it, I dont think its just a simple sprain.
----------

I've ruptured a ligament before and sometimes the pain is enormous but the swelling is quite small. It sounds as though you may have sprained or ruptured said ligaments or you've ruptured your achilles as you say there is a crunching in your heel. Don't put any weight on it please, this can make the situation worse. I can't guess at your agony (I know it all too well) but I would say that any answer you receive won't be a substitute for a doctor's opinion.  (+ info)

How do you prevent getting ankle and knee injuries?

I'm a basketball player and have seen many people get injured. I was wondering, how can you prevent getting ankle and knee injuries.
----------

Keep all of your leg muscles strong, stretch, and learn to land correctly. Sometimes we will see injuries if a person has bad feet, they are flat footed or something and also if their quads or hams are much stronger than the other. Just make sure you stay strong and flexible and control your landings as much as possible, don't land with your knees locked that kind of simple stuff. You can also get your ankles taped for preventative purposes and even wear a knee brace if you are that worried about injuries.  (+ info)

Can ankle injuries cause plantar fasciitis?

I have had numerous ankle injuries. One doctor speculated that in an attempt to protect my ankles I have caused my current problem of plantar fasciitis. Is there any relation?
----------

adjusting your weight differently due to weak ankles can create different problems to your feet..did the doc give you a remedy for both?
If not get a new doc.  (+ info)

Do I need to wear ankle braces if I haven't had any really serious ankle injuries?

I play basketball and have had no serious ankle injuries, but lately when I'm running it will roll over and sometimes it feels week. Should I be wearing ankle braces or should I just wait till I actually have an injury that will require me to wear them.
----------

I don't think it would hurt..any extra support is not a bad idea.

Can I still have arthritis if you never have had any known injuries to my ankle?

For as long as I can remember the joints in my ankles have been buckling/locking up everytime I stand on my toes.
Im about 5 feet tall so I have to stand on my toes to reach alot of things. When the joints lock it feels
extremely hurtful and they stay really stiff. If I try to move them it will feel like someone is hitting my ankle with a sledgehammer.
so for that period of time I cannot move them. I try not to stand on my toes but every once in a while I forget and
every single time my joints in my ankles lock again. My dad has authritis and from what he describes my pain is much more worse then his. Could I still have authritis although I havent had any prior injuries?
----------

Yes you could. In your case it sounds like inflammation of the joint because of all the bucking and locking up through your life. It's caused by the degradation of the joint. In rheumatoid arthritis it's an inflammatory immune response that some people are disposed to. In either case, it's unrelated to injury...you can get it without any prior injury, but injury does sometimes bring it on faster.  (+ info)

What physical therapy techniques are used with ankle injuries?

I broke my ankle and had all the cartilage removed. What kind of physical therapy am in in store for?
what is a babst board?
----------

Exercises using plantar flexion/dorsiflexion, as well as inversion/eversion, can be started, using elastic tubing or light weights draped over the dorsum of the foot. Babst boards, as mentioned previously, can help increase range of motion and restore proprioception.  (+ info)

What kind of ankle/foot injuries can be the result of walking too much?

The walking was on relatively even surfaces, but i was on my feet almost constantly for about 8-10 hours. There is tenderness, bruising, and I am unable to bear weight on my left foot. There is no overly visible swelling, however. My mom believes it is simply the result of walking so much, so what ankle/foot injuries have been known to occur with walking and being on foot too much during a day.
----------

Are you a heavy person? Heavy persons tend to put their weight on the knees and ankles which result in wearing off of cartilage. There is a distinct possibility of arthritis or tendonitis. You need to have a routine check-up with your ortho to confirm whether there is any injury to your ankles because of your work.  (+ info)

What is some good intense cardio someone can do if they have ankle, feet, or leg injuries?

Cardio or interval training if someone has broke their foot or leg what cardio can they do besides riding the power bike or standing boxing? Notice i said cardio. something to get the heart rate up?
----------

a really good cardio workout is swimming. i don't know if that is an option, especially if there is a cast on, but it is low impact but works pretty much all of your muscles. if you do have a cast on, it might be good to swim after you get the cast off.  (+ info)
