What is the length of time for the sypmtoms of a recurrence of herpes 2?

I have some tenderness but no visible discoloring or rash around a patch of skin on my right upper thigh. This has been going on for about 5 days. After doing some internet research, I think I might be one of the millions of people who have some form of herpes but do not know it due to very mild, almost symptomless recurrences. I have linked my skin tenderness to a possible herpes infection but I can't find any hard information on a typical recurrence's duration.
----------

There is no set time period for HSV-2 recurrence. They can be triggered by physical or mental stress, other illnesses (cold, flu, etc.) but other than that, the recurrences are quite random. There are no studies that show clearly documented triggers. Herpes typically has a vesicular appearance which means that the pump has a clear fluid filled center. These lesions are typically preceeded by tingling, pain, or tenderness to the inguinal area (most often). If you want to know for sure, I would suggest going to your primary care doc and having him run a blood test for HSV-2. That way you know for sure what you're dealing with.

If you're relatively asymptomatic, then you may not require treatment, unless you're sexually active. The funny thing about HSV-2 that you don't hear on TV or in sex ed class is that contact with the lesions or their fluid can cause transmission. The lesions are not always found on the penis and can be in the inguinal or inner thigh region where condoms do not reach. So the best thing to do if you have a confirmed infections is to be on suppressive medication. This can be done with Valtrex, once a day (i'm sure you've seen the commercial) or with Acyclovir twice a day, which is quite a bit cheaper if you don't have a good prescription plan on your insurance.

I've attached an article if you'd like to know more. I hope this helps.  (+ info)

Does the vaccine help to reduce recurrence for herpes simplexs 1 in eye? Or any other way to reduce Recurr?

I heard there is vaccine for herpes simplex virus but does it help for the patient that have hsv1 in corneal? Is there any ways to reduce the recurrence for the hsv1 in eye?
----------

The vaccine won't help or protect those who have the virus already. Suppression therapy, such as Valtrex daily can reduce the outbreaks and severity.  (+ info)

What are the chances of a breast cancer recurrence? and survival rate?

a close person i know has Invasive ductal carcinoma in situ with minimal/ inconclusive shes her2+ tumor is 1.5 cm. She's getting a second opinion from somwhere before she begins lumptectomy and radiation followed by chemotherapy. I would like to know how long can she live upto and the chances of a recurrence.
----------

There are lots of statistics out there, but I hate to try and go by that because everyone is different. There are so many factors that go into each case. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma last year. On the mammogram it appeared to be 1.5 cm, but by the time I had the tumor removed it was 2.5 cm. I am also her2+ and Er/Pr+. I chose to have a mastectomy, and I had node involvement so I also had chemotherapy and radiation. Because I was Her2/neu+ I had a year of Herceptin treatments. My last treatment is in two weeks. Herceptin was approved not that long ago to use in treatment for eary stage Her/2neu+ breast cancer. I would assume your friend will be having that part of her treatments. There are many treatments available to us and there are many many survivors. I'm glad to hear she's getting a second opinion, I think that's so important. I wish your friend the best.  (+ info)

Not everyone has a recurrence. I personally know a woman who is a 20+ year survivor of breast cancer.  (+ info)

Can sperm cells that does not fertilizes the eggs in women cause an recurrence of an infection?

Every time I have sex my boyfriend ejaculates in me but I don't get pregnant. A friend of mine says that the sperm cells that is left in the womb dies out and causes germs to build up causing me to have a recurrence of an infection. Is that true or there is something else to it that is causing the infection to occur repeatedly?
----------

He could have an infection of yeast on his penis, and not have noticed.
Yeast infections that are mild on the penis show no symptoms, it is only until after many months does it begin to show symptoms, and boy... When it does it is hell on earth. You should get him treated for a yeast infection, and yourself treated for a moderately severe infection.
Also, if you and him get clean more often that would probably also help to prevent this from happening again also. And, no, sperm will have nothing to do with an infection, it is very difficult to create an infection in the vagina as it has a self-cleaning mechanism. Yeast is pretty damn tough, but not very dangerous, you should ask your doc what makes sense to him before you do anything though.  (+ info)

Are you a cancer survior who doesn't let fear of recurrence get you down?

I am 27 years old and last year when i was 26 i was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am terribly afraid of having an recurrence that i don't know what to do. I would like to know are you or do you know of anyone who is a cancer survior who are happy and don't live in fear of a recurrence?
----------

I was 32 when diagnosed, 33 now. I seem to be happy and don't really fear of recurrence. Maybe I should? I had the Oncotype DX testing done on my tumor and it showed that I have a moderately high risk of the cancer coming back. But I can't live my life like that. What good is it? This is something that we cannot control. I continue to live my life as I always did. I try to eat a little better than before. Try to eat my veggies, but...well...you know how that goes! I do have 2 kids which helps keep my mind off of things. I keep myself informed and educated. I constantly do research on breast cancer. It helps me feel like I'm more in control of it. I had to go through chemo too, and that was the worst possible thing that I have ever done. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't tell you that I do sometimes fear it, because I do not want to ever go through chemo again. I am doing all that I can to make sure that it won't come back. I take my pills, I visit my doctor, I smile everyday. Smile & go have fun. You have one life, make the most out of it! Don't live like your dieing, live like you're living!!!  (+ info)

What is the recurrence rate of psoriasis ?

Psoriasis is an allergic reaction triggered by many factors such as unhealthy diet, no exercise, & stress. But if it ihas been treated, then will it recurr? Since it is an allergic reaction it might be re-triggered by the allergant.
Is this true?
----------

Psoriasis is not an allergic reaction. The cause of psoriasis is not known (that's why there is no cure for it yet). I cleared my 4 year old psor. with champori cream (http://www.champori.com ) and it hasn't come back in over 8 months now...  (+ info)

Do you think that a person living in fear of a cancer recurrence can stop it from happening?

What can a person do to stop a cancer recurrence from happening to them?
----------

I think that if you think positively and rather then worrying about cancer...keep your mind healthy and strong. This way...if something does happen - you'll be in the mindset to beat it...
the mind is a powerful thing...some people just don't know how to use it.  (+ info)

What is the correctly cancer recurrence rate after 5 years?

I had a stage 3 colorectal (symoid) cancer 6 years ago, and things went well other than a few blockages. It is possible that there are still cancer cells within my body, although the machines cannot detect these cells (too small) and I do not have cancer symtoms.

So, what is the chance that the cancer will come back at my symoid site or spreaded to my liver or lung?
----------

I think you need to be thinking about the fact that nothing is showing now and you have no symptoms--be thankful!

Live your life well and think positively. Studies have found people who think positively about their health, usually are healthy.

My mom had collarectal cancer and that was long ago when the medical technology was not what it is today. She survived, still alive and very healthy at 80 years old!

Do all the right things to keep your body healthy; eat only organic, non-fat, high fiber foods. Learn how to put into your body only the purest things; water for one out the tap is not healthy. Exercise, get sunlight year round, take vitamins (vitamin D is known to help with rectal cancers, but take it with calcium).  (+ info)

What is the prognosis for a recurrence of prostate cancer being treated with hormone therapy?

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 5 years ago and had radiotherapy after which he was ok until early this year when his PSA started to rise. It is now 16 and he has been advised to go on permanent hormone treatment. The doctor didn't tell us how likely this was to work and how long for. He is 63. Does anyone here know anything about it.
----------

I’m not sure what you mean by “work”. I assume you know this will not cure him of the disease. Prostate cancer is typically slow growing and far more often than not managed very well. How aggressive it is, is determined by the Gleason score. This would have been determined at biopsy. Hormone therapy is standard care and works quite well at slowing the disease for long periods of time. It is not unusual to see men with prostate cancer for 15-20 and more. Whenever you realize you have an unanswered question call the doctor and ask over the phone they are used to it – it’s part of the job.

You may also be interested in knowing there is a prostate cancer vaccine due on the market by February. I can’t remember the name but I believe it is coming from a company in New Jersey. From what I was told it works very well, but it is also very expensive $30,000-$40,000. The patient’s tumor cells are used to make the vaccine so it is specific to the patient and their cancer. Over time, which fortunately you husband has, I suspect the price will come down. I also believe this type of vaccine will become available for different types of cancer. I work with a doctor who has had one for brain tumors in clinical trials for a few years now and it has been doing very well. Best wishes.  (+ info)
