How can I effectively deal with referred dental pain?

I have dry socket :(
The actual problem is due to having both bottom wisdom teeth surgically extracted 8 days ago. My dry socket is in the bottom right. My referred pain is in my left bottom back molar.

I am on Percocet 5/325 every 4 hours and they are NOOO help at all.

I know the answer is probably going to be that nothing is going to help until the dry socket heals. But please humor me and give me any advice you possibly can.

THIS SUCKS!
----------

Hello again,
the first problem is that Percocet is a narcotic medication and has no anti-inflammatory effects. Inflammation has much to do with the pain you feel. Percocet will just dull your senses with the hope that the pain won't bother you. For a dry socket I know it won't work.
A dry socket takes a while to heal. You will get better relief from Advil (which has anti-inflammatory properties). Also, don't smoke or use a straw until it heals.
i know this advice will help you.Take Advil and stick to a soft diet which doesn't involve heavy chewing.  (+ info)

Can you have referred pain in neck, hips and other joints from an abscessed tooth post root canal?

Please only answer if you have some medical or dental degree. I was thinking osteomyletis or on that order.
----------

You can if the infection traveled from your absessed tooth through your blood stream.

Other possiblities is Rheumatoid Arthritis which can affect people of all ages.

No medical degree, but have frequented hospitals all my life.  (+ info)

Is it possible to get a referred tooth pain after scrapping & filling a tooth in order to put a crown in?

Today my Dentist chipped and scrapped by tooth to make it small & temporary fill it in order for a crown to be put in next week, but now my other teeth mostly top right wusdom seem to have a sharp pain and are sensative, only when drinking fluids or if when i can feel air, is this normal? my Dentist did say it will be sensative for a while & was given a mini toothpaste but am wondering how long this lasts? thanks.
----------

you will get pain & sensitivity on that tooth that has been scraped for the crown. If a temporary crown is fitted, you will not have pain or sensitivity. Try desensitizing tooth paste.  (+ info)

Can a person have referred pain only?

I have tooth ache, pressure, on upper left 2nd molar. Dentist took X-rays of lower left 2nd molar and determined that it is infected. It had a root canal done a long time ago. But there is no pain coming from lower molar at all. Is it possible for a problem tooth on lower molar to cause no pain at all...and have referred pain on upper molar?
----------

Hmmm.. I don't know any of this for a hard fact, but it sounds unlikely.

I've had oral surgery multiple times, and have talked to my DDS and Perio about pain and anesthesia. From what I gather from conversations with them, the nerves that supply your maxillary dentition are totally different than the ones that are for your mandibular.

But, since these two molars are in occlusion with each other, it's possible that the infection slightly changed the alignment of the lower tooth and then that is what the pain in the upper tooth is from-- a different position.

I wouldn't worry about it, I would think the pain will resolve as soon as you clear up the infection. Good luck!  (+ info)

Should topical analgesic be applied to site of damaged nerve in neck, or site of referred pain, or both?

bone spur on vertebrae in neck has damaged nerve in that area. Changing my "photographer's" posture to avoid further damage. In the meantime, is pain best dealt with by applying topical analgesic (e.g., capsicum cream) to the damaged nerve area, OR to the area of the referred pain across shoulder blade and down arm, OR to both areas?
----------

Not that I believe you can put something on a nerve to make it better, but putting anything on the area where the injury occurred would be the best bet.  (+ info)

I have a dry socket in a lower molar but I also have pain in the adjacent tooth. Is this referred pain?

The tooth adjacent to the dry socket has a deep filing which is why I was wondering whether I had another problem on the horizon. I am hoping is it because of the deep socket. Any ideas?

Has anybody been referred to a gynecologist for back pain during menstral cycle?

I have terrible back pain when I ovulate and when I have a monthly period, Ive had it now for 3 months, had all smear tests and swabs taken in my surgery by my gp and all are fine. Now I've been referred to a gynecologist for other testing to be done.
Has anybody else had these symptons and been referred? what was your outcome?
I dont take the contraceptive pill and I dont suffer abdominal pain, just severe back pain for 21 days in total in every month.
----------

They might be checking to see if you have endometriosis or other medical conditions that can cause the pain. I have chronic lower back pain due to my endometriosis. The pain is much more severe when I am ovulating or on my period. The link below has more info on it.  (+ info)

i'm being referred to a pain management clinic for my back i have an appointment on tuesday i dunno what's wro?

i'm being referred to a pain management clinic for my back i have an appointment on tuesday i dunno what's wrong i'm kinda scared i was told to drink a lot of milk and take calcium pills and continue my pain meds. does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? i do know they did spinal lumbar x-rays. thanks for your help.
----------

if they just did an xray and they said nothing is wrong then that means there is no damage to the bones in the spine... you then most likely have damage to the soft tissue in the spine... idk why they didn't do a MRI yet...that is like an xray...but it is done to see if there is any damage to the soft tissue... you should try a lumbar back stretcher... i had sort tissue damage in my back and i got a lumbar stretcher ...used it as directed...and it went away!!!

i have the 3-level adjustable one...but i keep it on the lowest adjustment... i do recommend the adjustable one...so you can see which ark works the best for you by experimenting!!!  (+ info)

Why the referred pain is felt at an uninvolved site instead of the affected site???

We know that angina pain is felt in left arm, pathology at diaphragm may result in pain in shoulder tip, and at times hip joint is affected but the pain is felt in knee joint. Can anyone please explain me why pain is not felt at actual site, logically it should be perceived with same intensity all over the area of distribution of regional sensory nerve.
----------

The organs are supplied by nerves of autonomic nervous system.Skin and muscles are supplied by somatic nerves. So pain originating in organs/viscera like liver, heart is conveyed by cross link in spinal cord to distal areas. So appendicitis pain is initially located not on right lower abdomen but at umbilicus. Both nerves[somatic and autonomic] having spinal cord connections at thoracic level 10.It is called referred pain in medical terminology.  (+ info)
