What is the basis of differing actions of antineoplastic agents on different tissue/neoplasms?

What is the basis for differing tissue- and neoplasm-specificites of antieoplastic chemotherapeutic agents? This doubt arose because considering what the pharmacokinetics of these drugs are it remains to be answered as to why a certain agent would act only in a particular tissue or neoplasm when the mechanisms they employ are so similar, e.g., various alkylating agents in spite having same action act of different tumors with differing degrees of effectiveness. Hope someone answers the question specifically. Useful links to free-text articles would also be highly appreciated. Bye. TC.

I twisted my ankle 2 years ago, yet I still have a lot of scar tissue built up around the bone. How to heal?

I twisted the inside part of my ankle 2 years ago. Right around where that bump sticks out. Now here I am 2 years later, and I feel completely fine and healed. Yet there still seems to be a huge buildup of scar tissue (or something) surrounding the little circular bone that sticks out.
I know all about elevation, icing, compression, ect. But that seems like immediate treatment. This is 24 months later. How do I make it go away?

most likely laser or creams but i couldn't name any  (+ info)

How long does it take for scar tissue to heal after being pulled away from the bone?

I had ankle sugery about a year ago. Everything was fine until last week when I was playing basketball. I pushed off of my foot wrong and felt something pop. I was in tremedous pain. I went to the ortho surgeon the next day. He said it was just scar tissue that tore away from the bone. My foot is all bruised and is very tender. I have this area near my incision that is extremely bruised. Looks like blood under the skin. Is that possible. Should I continue to let it heal on its own, or should I go back to the Dr.

The surgery was to tighten up my ankles so I would not sprain them so often. In the back of my mind I am worried that I messed up the surgery. The Dr. says it is fine.

Please help! Has this happened to anyone else?

Scar tissue can acually take 2-3months to heal. I suggest you go back to the doctor to check it out.  (+ info)

Get rid of internal scar tissue on my left brow bone?

I got into a car accident a couple of years ago and i hit my brow bone. Now i have a bump or scar tissue in that place half an inch in diameter on the bone and it weighs down on my eye a little and has effected my eyesight slightly. I was wondering if there any possible way of getting rid of that even through plastic surgery. What procedure has to take place and what is the medical name for such.
----------

There are manny things you can do to have this scar tissue removed.
Surgery: Sometimes surgery may be required to improve the scar. In this case, the surgeon will remove excess scar tissue, and reposition the incision so that it heals in a less visible pattern. This scar removal surgery is usually done under local or general anesthesia in the doctor's office.

Creams/Massages: Treatment using special creams are applied directly to the scar. The cream softens the scar tissue and promotes healing by working on the collagen fibers and realigning them. Massage may also be recommended, especially after breast surgery. This also helps to break up the scar tissue.

Laser: Scars, especially old scars, may be treated with PhotoDerm, a non-invasive, laser-like device that emits an intense flash of light that works directly on the scar by reducing the blood vessels present in the scar tissue.

You should look into these things and see what procedures are best for you. You can start off light by just looking in stores for creams and if that doesn't work try the other things  (+ info)

What causes rotting bone and tissue around the left sinus and eye socket, complete loss of nasal septrum ?

Have thick yellow discharge with blood and nerve damage on left side of face with dumbness. Chronic headache, severe throat drainage. Bone scans show numerous defects. Said to light up like a X-mas Tree. Have had 7 surgeries and seen 3 ENTs, rare diseases specialist and oral surgeons. I had artificial bone graphs on that side for implants several years ago.

There is a disease called Wegener's granulomatosis. it is very rare and is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body's natural defences to attack it's own tissue. It sounds like you have already had numerous tests to try and find a cause, ask your Dr about the possibility of Wegeners.  (+ info)

Amputations: Why is the bone sometimes left longer than the rest of the tissue around it?

I work in PT and have a patient who recently had a trans-tibial amputation where the doctor left the bone sticking out about an inch or so longer than the rest of the amputated leg. What is the purpose of this? I would like to be able to explain it to my patient, as she was convinced it was a mistake. I know it's not a mistake because I learned about this once, but I can't remember the reason behind it.

How to get rid of scar tissue on bone?

I got hit by a car last year and landed on basically my left side brow bone. I haven't really noticed until recently that it might be causing a slight altering difference between my other eye. There is a bump where the contact happened and I don't really have feeling on the bump either. I'm not even sure if that's identified as scar tissue but I'm guessing. Does someone know if yes in fact that is scar tissue and i would really love to know if theres any possible way of removing it, even through surgery; i would appreciate all details! Thank you!
----------

It probably is scar tissue. When we receive trauma to an area of our body specialist cells are sent to heal the area. These cells can cause scar tissue or even extra bone formation, that's why you'll sometimes see people having to have their fractures rebroken, because the bone has healed incorrectly and in the wrong place, causing extra bone formation and limiting movement. All of this extra tissue or bone isn't of the cailber of the original stuff and is not served by nerves or blood, which is why it feels numb.

Yes, it can be removed, you'll need to see an orthopedist probably who can take x-rays to determine whether it's extra bone or muscle and what needs to be done to remove it.  (+ info)

Will a bone scan show cancerous tissue elsewhere?

I had an abnormal CT scan on my foot, and a bone scan and MRI was ordered. I have already had my bone scan , and it came back abnormal as well. My MRI isn't until Monday. The question that I am basically asking is that can a bone scan detect cancer elsewhere, or only limit to the bones? I am just curious. Thank you in advance.
----------

A bone scan is exactly that: a bone scan.

A bone scan is an imaging procedure that targets the bones. It does not target other tissue whatsoever.

Other diagnostic procedures, such as CTs and MRIs, are used to evaluate other parts of the body.  (+ info)

which is worse a broken bone or soft tissue tear?

This is regarding to the joint area, but it is not limited to that. Also, which will lead to more future issues/complications? I feel that a tissue tear is worse because its never really the same again after the injury.
