My best friends 6mth old boy has just been diagnosed with Benign Myoclonic jerks, a version of epilepsy....?

Does anyone know if the babies development could suffer or anything else about this? thankyou for your answers.
It did actually conincide with his injections. But he had been a bit shakey for a couple of months, just little bouts of it and sometimes his eyes rolling back into his head. He had his injections a day few days before he got diagnosed. but MMR injection isnt until 12months.
----------

If left untreated, the patient continues to experience myoclonic attacks, and this may lead to impaired psychomotor development and behavioral disturbances. Myoclonias are easily controlled by valproate alone and the child may then develop regularly, according to normal milestones. Here is a site devoted to that...it may help you:

Was this Benign Rolandic Epilepsy?

When I was about 4 years old, my parents said that I used to wake up and start screaming and staring at one fixed spot in the middle of the night. My dad also said that he took us to the grocery store once and I just stood there and stared. I was diagnosed with Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. After I was diagnosed, I never had another seizure. Do you really think it was Rolandic seizures? Because I read up on it and I haven't found anything that states that a symptom is screaming. Could it be something else?
----------

I found that it may be accompanied by making noises that made no sense to your parents,
it does sound like B R Epilepsy.  (+ info)

Does epilepsy make you more tired than usual?

I have a benign form of epilepsy and am wondering if it's just me that's getting puckered out or the epilepsy.
----------

The medication can cause side effects from drowsiness, neausa, tiredness and more. Be sure to take the medication on a full stomach which can help lessen the side effects. After a seizure, you can be extremely tired because your body feels like it has gone through one big marathon. After a grand mal, I am stiff, I vomit and the longest I have ever slept after a seizure was 24 hours. .  (+ info)

How do I prepare to become a neonatal nurse?

Ok, so I am 12 years old, and my passion is to become a neonatal nurse. I really want to do this but I want to prepare to become one. I already babysit, and i want to do volunteer work in a doctors office with a neonatal for free if possible but I'm not sure how. I live in Arizona does anyone know anywhere that I can volunteer? Please add any info you know about being a neonatal nurse!
----------

It's not necessary to volunteer. Just do it if you want a taste of the career and would do it anyway. The most important thing is just to do well when you get to high school, so you can get into a college of your choice that has a nursing major. You can either earn an Associate's (2 year) degree, or a Bachelor's (4 year) degree Registered Nurse program. After you graduate, you will be eligible for the NCLEX exam, and you will earn your nursing license after you pass. Then there are special post-grad programs you can take to specialize, or you can earn a Master's degree in a special field, like the neonatal field. It's up to you which direction you go.

There are also other kinds of nurses which require less schooling, like a Practical Nurse (1 or 2 years) or a Nursing Assistant (2 months- 1 year). Any kind of nurse is a great career with tons of growth, and one of few growing fields! So you'll never have to worry about not having a job.  (+ info)

How do you become a neonatal nurse?

I plan on becoming a neonatal nurse. I am taking Allied Health 1 and "Plan" on going into Allied Health 2 next year.I am planning on going to a Community College. My mom told me that I have to become an RN then go on to a neonatal nurse. How many year do you have to be in college?
Anything else you think I should know please tell me.
thanks everyone who answered :-)

I am a Labor and Delivery Nurse/Neonatal nurse. I went to a RN program at a community college. I took my exam to get my license, and then take a training course in the hospital that I work at to work in neonatal. All you have to do is get a RN degree and then train in the area that you want to nurse in.  (+ info)

What's the difference between Neonatal and Prenatal nurses?

I want to be a nurse for babies, but not for the premature babies. I sent a question out awhile ago asking what job works with new babies and I got Neonatal and Prenatal. Whats the difference?
----------

Neonatal nurses work with newborn babies that are premature or ill.

Prenatal nurses (or midwives) work with expectant mothers during preganacy and birth, and newborns following birth.

If you don't want to work with premature babies, midwifery is the better option for you. However Midwifery requires at least 3 years study at University to become qualified, and also that much of your work will be with the pregnant mothers rather than babies.

However you could work as a health care assistant on a midwifery ward, I worked on a post-natal ward (after birth) as a HCA and spent much time with the babies and mothers.  (+ info)

What is the average pay of a neonatal nurse?

I want to be a neonatal nurse when I go to college and begin my career life. I want to do it regaurdless of pay, but I also want to have a big family with my own babies and I want to be able to make enough money to give my kids a wonderful life too. Any ideas of how much they make yearly?
----------

Most nurses make around $40,000-60,000 year...of course, I'm sure all states are different. Plus, there are sign on bonus', insurance plans, 401K's, etc. I don't know what state you are in but Tampa General in Tampa, FL has an awesome NICU. I had a friend that worked there for years. Scheduling is great, 8,10,and 12 hour shifts...3,4,5 days a week, nights or days.
I called on a RN job in the TX area, they are paying between $18-23/hr for a Dr's office position in OB/GYN.  (+ info)
