Whats the big difference in a Basal thermomitor and a regular digital?

Well I have a digital thermometer but Walgreen's has a digital basal temp thermometer and the only difference I see is the color and that it has a recall button, is it worth buying or is mine fine? Also what factors can affect your bbt?
----------

The Basal thermometer measures in finer gradations. It is accurate to .1 degree while a regular thermometer is accurate to .2 degrees. Makes a difference.

If you are trying to chart because you have infertility issues, it makes a difference. If you just want a regular old thermometer, it doesn't matter which one you have.  (+ info)

Does basal body temp really work for figuring out ovualtion?

My doctor told me to take my basal body temp every morning for a month, and if the temperature rose .5 to a whole degree, that means I am ovulating.

Is this really accurate? Can you REALLY tell by just one little degree?
----------

It is pretty reliable if done correctly. I recommend reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" to help you with charting. The only negative thing with charting is that it detects ovulation after the fact. But it does give you an indication of about the time you ovulate so you can try around that time the next month.

It is important to be consistant with charting. The main things to remember are temp at the same time each morning before getting out of bed or even moving. So put the thermometer on the night stand.

The only other thing that is more accurate than temping is following your cycle through ultrasound and bloodwork to determine ovulation. However this is expensive and time consuming.

Best wishes ttc!!!!!!!  (+ info)

what are the temperature differences in a basal digital thermometer and a regular one?

i don't have a regular one but i need to know if i have a fever.so i'm wondering will the basal be accurate?

u've got it backwards. the basal thermometer is MORE accurate than a regular thermometer. it is more precise and will usually remember ur last reading too! use a basal if u have one for everything  (+ info)

Why is basal cell carcinoma the least invasive of all cancers?

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) can develop into large unsightly skin tumors but the cells rarely metasize or spread to distant sites like malignant melanoma, lung cancer, colon cancer etc.
Is it that only certain genes are involved in BCC which mean they fail to become completely immature like other tumor cells, or is it they are more liable to be attacked by the immune system? Any other ideas?
----------

Simon - Great question! Sorry that the answer is not yet known. Most cancer research efforts have been directed towards the malignant tumors which rapidly invade the blood vessels and lymph channels making their spread easily, but not malignant basal cells of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). It may be genetic, as you mention, or the BCC cells may lack certain genes and/or enzymes which would allow the cells to survive in other body locations. It is NOT likely to be related to the immune system as microscopic examination of BCC lesions do not show the tissue changes of immune-type cells adjacent to or invading the BCC as they do with other tumors. Hence, the BCC spreads by ever-widening direct growth from the primary tumor without metastases but able to invade the toughest of nearby tissues, even bone. What is the basal body temperature when ovulating or contraception?

What is the basal body temperature when ovulating or contraception?
----------

Everyone's temps are different. Mine were 96.9-97.3 before ovulation, I dipped the day of ovulation to around 96.6, and then they rise the day after. Mine were 97.7-98.2 post ovulation until either my period wad due, or this last month they stayed high and that's how I knew I was pregnant.  (+ info)

Has anyone used the basal thermometer as a means of tracking ovulation?

I purchased a digital basal thermometer for the purpose of tracking my ovulation date. When do I begin using the thermometer if my period began on 1/18? Thanks.
Should I start when I wake up tomorrow morning? The instructions said it's best to chart before getting out of bed.
----------

you can start anytime if you wanted to get practice and get into the habit before your next cycle starts. OR, since your cycle just began today, there's no reason to start before CD (cycle day) 5 because while you're on your period it's erratic and there's no point unless you're someone who ovulated on CD 10 or something.

I basal temp'd for 5 years to keep track of my cycles. Remember to temp first thing before doing anything else. Stay in bed, pop the thermometer in moving as little as possible (so have it within arm's reach without having to even prop up to get it - i would keep mine under my pillow within the pillowcase when i had a nightstand that was a bit out of reach) and stay still until it beeps. Temp at the same time EVERYDAY even the weekends or when you can sleep in. Set an alarm if you need to - you can always go back to sleep if your schedule allows. Temp after sleeping at least 6 straight hours.

For trakcing ovulation you should also note cervical fluids from CD8 and onward as well as cervical position. These two things show impending fertility (temping does not show you when it's best to try to have a baby or to time intercourse - temping can only show you after-the-fact that ovulation has indeed occurred) but not confirmed ovulation. So, to maximize chances of conceiving you should employ both methods --- cervical monitoring and basal temping.

Definitely use a chart. You can download them anywhere and theyr'e very useful. Or you can make it up yourself. GL!  (+ info)

How do I check my basal body temperature?

Can anyone explain to me, how to use the themometer to check my basal temperature? I bought a themometer specialized for that. How many times should u have sex during ovulation?my boyfriend and I have been ttc for a year now. we have tried almost everything so far and it is really becoming stressful. Has anyone else experienced this before?
----------

you test your temperature every morning as soon as you wake up. But, you have to do it roughly the same time everyday, within a half hour or so for it to be accurate. You start the first day of your period. Then you chart it. Find a printable chart online, just type in bbt chart.
This works really well for finding out when exactly you ovulate. I found out that i was ovulating very late in my cycle by charting.
I found the best times to have sex during ovulation to be the 3 days leading up to ovulation, the day of and the day after. You only need to do it once a day. I got pregnant 3 times this way! All 3 times charting. Do this for a few months and if you are still not pregnant bring your charts to your Dr to look at. That is what I did and my second pregnancy I needed clomid because my cycles were too irregular.
Good luck!

also, her is what my chart looked like this time I got pregnant.

but remember that everyone runs at a different temperature! So yours could be higher or lower than mine.  (+ info)

Can an ovarian cyst cause your basal body temperature to stay elevated?

I was wondering if an ovarian cyst can cause your basal body temperature to stay elevated as if you were pregnant, this is my second day late and my body temperature is still elevated but I don't want to take a pregnancy test for another couple days and I recently found out that I have an ovarian cyst. The rest of my body is saying that I might be pregnant I even have a high soft and closed cervix. Has anyone experienced this and had a positive pregnancy test later on?
----------

It depends on what KIND of cyst it is. If it's a functioning cyst that is pumping out progesterone, then absolutely it would keep your period away and keep your temps elevated. You might have to just test to figure it out.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Do you have to have high basal body temperatures for 18 days to be pregnant?

My period has not come yet. and i have a lot of cervical mucus that is white-ish and i have nausea. but my basal body temperatures are all over the place... though they have been like that my entire cycle.
----------

If your temps fall low during the second half of the cycle and you are indeed pregnant then it can be a sign of low progesterone and can threaten the pregnancy. If you get a pos. test then be sure to tell your dr to test your prog. level.  (+ info)
