Atrophy??????????????

Okay you know how if your about 40 years old and if you don't use your muscle you get atrophy? Well, my question is if your a teenager around 17, 18 and up can you get atrophy too if you don't ever use your muscles? But won't you just get fat?!

fat and muscle atrophy are 2 differnet things. getting fat usually is not far from other aspects of lazy life, but un-related to atrophy specifically.  (+ info)

I used to bike as fast as I possibly could on the highest gear of my racing bike, and now i have huge thigh muscles I want to get rid of. If I stop biking so furiously and continue running, will the muscles still atrophy?

Also, does the position of the bike side have anything to do with how the leg muscles develop?

So, how many approximate days would it take for my metabolism to start slowing down, and for atrophy to begin taking place with my muscles?
Not sure of the metabolism part but i know after 3 days you will notice you muscles starting to shrink.  (+ info)

There is no specific surgical procedure for bone atrophy (more or less the same thing as osteoporosis). Loss of bone density is managed by altering mineral balance in blood, which is affected by things such as kidney function, hormone levels, diet, exercise, and absorption characteristics of the intestines. Specific problems caused by osteoporosis can be fixed by surgery - spinal surgeries and hip replacements are two examples.  (+ info)

He has developed the Malnutrition after being treated by drug therapy for long standing Depression. The Cerebral Atrophy was found in a CT Scan at the same time Bladder Cancer was found. The Bladder Cancer was successfully treated, but we were not informed of the Cerebral Atrophy untill he went to the Emergency Room in respiratory distress. Everything else checked out as normal. He is a recovering alcoholic, has been clean for 20 years, but has abused pain medication and tranquilizers since.

Is it true that vegan diet causes your muscles to atrophy?

I was reading a medical journal that said a vegan diet causes muscles to atrophy. It said the lack of complete proteins in a vegan diet causes muscles to waste away. Is this why vegans lack the muscle tone of someone who is eating a well balanced diet?

Is it possible to have something like POS which is caused from too much estrogen, and vaginal atrophy too?

I've had optic nerve atrophy ever since I was a boy and I'm wondering if there is any cure. I've seen from western websties that there is no treatment but what about eastern viewpoints or other viewpoints. My condition is stable and with glasses corrected in both eyes is 20/200. I am still pronounced legally blind by opthamologists and they said that there is nothing that can be done and it won't get any worse but the downside is that it can't get any better they told me. I suffer from eye strain and myopia & I get terrible headaches. I tried accupuncture but it doesn't help (maybe headaches for about a year if I take 10 treatments). I heard there is electrical stimulation but I am skeptical and I don't know if herbs might work or not because I tried one time & nothing happened. Do you know if there is any cure or treatment possiblity or am I going to have to go through life blind the rest of my life? If there is anything, PLEASE HELP, PLEASE HELP!! I want to see & drive a car one day.
