A cardioactive glycoside consisting of rhamnose and ouabagenin, obtained from the seeds of strophanthus gratus and other plants of the apocynaceae; used like digitalis. It is commonly used in cell biological studies as an inhibitor of the NA(+)-K(+)-EXCHANGING ATPASE.
