I had a miscarriage and the chromosomal test of the foetus revelaed Trisomy 15.?

I had a miscarriage and the chromosomal test of the foetus revelaed Trisomy 15. What is the possibility/probabability of having the same problem with my next pregnancy? This was my first pregnancy. Thanks for you answers in advance
----------

Trisomy 15 is rare, however, most people who miscarry don't have genetic testing and the majority of miscarriages are due to genetic problems. Your body did what it was supposed to. It's not an inherited condition. It's just one of those things. Older women are more likely to have babies with trisomies, and that is both because of their eggs' age but also because their bodies don't spot these problems as efficiently as younger womens'. All the trisomies are the kind of genetic disorders that are usually picked up on the nuchal fold and blood tests at 12 weeks. But you're not likely to have it happen again, so try not to worry. The more you worry, the more your doctors will try to allay your fears with CVS and all sorts of invasive tests that you almost certainly don't need. CVS and amnio would both diagnose common genetic conditions but nuchal fold and blood test combined will also pick up 95% without harpooning you with a needle.  (+ info)

What complications are there if trisomy 13 is found but confined to the placenta?

I know all the terms like patau syndrome and mosaicism just being in the placental tissue. I'm not looking for a definition or explanation of how or why it happens. I am trying to figure out what complications it can present.I know the baby is fine and its just mosaicism in placenta.

One complication is a stillbirth - another complication is IUGR  (+ info)

I know someone who is being check for Trisomy 13 & 18. Is an amnio the only way to detect it or would the first run and quad blood test find anything? By first run and Quad, Im referring to the series of blood work they do while you're pregnant.

What exactly happens when someone has a trisomy?

I'm wondering what exactly happens genetically when someone gets a trisomy
----------

One of the chromosomes gets copied thrice, instead of twice.

EDIT: As in, instead of having a pair of chromosomes, there are three. Probably the best-known example would be Down's syndrome, which is trisomy 21, I think. This is when there are 3 chromosome 13s, instead of two.  (+ info)

Is it true that if a baby has clenched hands during ultrasound they have Trisomy 18?

Ive had 2 ultrasounds lately where she has clenched hands. In my 16th week though her hands were open.

Just wondering whether this could be bad? I am kind of worried because I read that's a sign. I had some testing early in pregnancy and everything came out negative. I'm still worried about this.

Any experiences?
----------

This is only a sign of Trisomy 18 if the hands are permanently clenched (unable to open at all). If you've seen a scan with your baby opening it's hands like you said, there is nothing to be concerned over.  (+ info)

Anyone have a baby or miscarriage with Trisomy 15?

I had a miscarriage about a month ago at 11 weeks and tests came back saying the baby(a boy) had Trisomy 15. The nurse said it was not compatible with life. Is this true? Can this happen again? Should my husband and I get genetic testing before we try again? Should I be asking more questions about this? She said it should not occur again but she didn't give me any details. This is so sad....I'm heartbroken.

First off, (((((((hugs))))))))).

I am so sorry for your loss and I know how devastated you are. I too lost a baby boy, William, at 10 weeks due to Trisomy 15 back on May 17th.

The fetal remains were sent away for cytogenetic analysis and then I saw a specialist who said that it is very rare and is not related to maternal age, as I am 38 that was a concern of mine.

The condition can be compatiable with life but with many deformities. For reference to this, click on the link I provided but PLEASE BE AWARE, the information is disturbing with graphic pictures of the deceased baby.

I bawled my eyes out as I think he looks beautiful to me and I would give anything to have my William in my arms right now as he was due three days ago on December 14th.

My sincere, deepest condolences on the loss of your baby boy.

2.Will the baby be in the NICU long.

----------

1. YES they can
2. Depends on the severity

How likely is it for you to have Trisomy 18 based on a genetic blood test?

If it was a blood test as part of the triple screen/IPS/quad screen or whatever screen you had, then you will get the odds when you get the result. Always remember to look at it from a positive perspective rather than the negative one. For example, if it comes back as 1:200 chance, look at it as a 99.5% chance of having a normal child as opposed to 1 in 200 for having Trisomy 18.

An amnio would be more accurate.  (+ info)
