how do you use selsun blue to treat tinea versicolor?

I have tinea versicolor on my stomache and lower back.My doc gave me a lotion for it but also told me to buy selsun blue and use it as a body wash daily and shampoo weekly.Am i suppose to lather with selsun blue, rinse, and use my dove body wash after?Or am i suppose to replace my body wash with the selsun blue all together? How long should I leave the selsun blue on my body before i rinse?Oh and how long should I leave it on m scalp before I rinse?
----------

Wash with it daily and apply a small amount on the areas and let dry. However, if it begins to irritate your skin by leaving it on, just wash with it and rinse.  (+ info)

I had tinea versicolor and I treated it, but the spots are still there?

I treated it with the selenium cream from my doctor. This was back in the fall and prom is in 2 months and I want them gone! Any help would be wonderful.

They will smooth out with time (the melatonin has to be produced). Try sunbathing a little to speed up the process.  (+ info)

Could this be the cause of Tinea Vesicolor?

I have been using Tanning lotion for a few months now. And I have been noticing some spots on my arms that dont tan, and stay white. I looked up some symptoms, and I think I may have Tinea Vesicolor. Do you think that the cause of this happenining could be the daily use of tanning lotion? Please let me know what I can do to clear these symptoms up.
----------

Tinea V. is caused by bacteria which is present on everybody's skin but gets active on some people only.
The way to treat Tinea V: smear Selsun Blue shampoo over affected areas, let it dry and sleep on it. Wash away in the morning shower. 2-3 sessions will do it.

What is the difference between athletes foot and tinea? Are they the same thing?

And would chill blains go along with these?

Does anyone know an effective way of treating Tinea Versicolor?

I have moved to NZ and then Australia 7 years ago and because at that time I did not have my own washing machine I was affected by the skin infection Tinea Versicolor). I got worse during my pregnancy and now about 1 year after That i am trying everything to get rid of it and I can not.It is driving me mad. especially in hot summer in Canberra. I really do not know what I can do to have it treated for ever. It seems it is not responding to any thing.I have tried all antifugal creams, selenium sulphate shampoo and fluconazole tablets and ketoconazole shampoos...nothing is working. I am applying anti fungal liquids to the washing machin and boiling clothes but hopelss..It is about a year since I was affected by it very badly and nothing works.would you please if anyone had it treated tell me what i can do?

According to this website: http://www.medicinenet.com/tinea_versicolor/article.htm Tinea Versicolor is present in all adult skin. Heat and humidity can make it worse. Read through the site. If you have taken various medications to clear it up and it hasn't gone away, it could be that your immune system is out of wack.

Many medications can affect the liver negatively. Some medications also are disruptive to the immune system.

I would suggest you get plenty of rest, take a good multi-vitamin and drink plenty of fluids. Many herbal teas flush the body of toxins. Try to build up your immune system. Stress can also affect your immune system negatively. Cortisol and other hormonal stressors can damage your immune system. Check in with your physician and see if he thinks it is alright to try herbal remedies. But take care, if you continue to take the meds you are on, you could have serious consequences with just starting up with herbs. Again, have a talk with your doctor.

Good luck, hope this helps.  (+ info)

Does Selsun Blue really work on Tinea Versicolor?

I just bought some Selsun Blue Shampoo with Selenium Sulfide 1%

How long should I leave it on for? Put it on overnight then wash it off in the morning or put it on for 15 minutes then take a shower?
----------

My doctor prescribed me Selenium Sulfide 2%. It works on some parts. It made the ones on my back go away but it didn't work at all on the ones on my neck. It's still spreading. :( I leave on mine for ten minutes then I rinse it off.   (+ info)

I would just go to a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. Tell them what you have tried (the exact name and strength), and ask them if there is anything stronger to try before you go to the doctor. They will help.  (+ info)

I have tinea versicolor and im not sure methods i use are going to work.?

My doctor recommended selsun blue, but as i read online they say 2.5%. I bought the 1% with aloe. How well will it work? I play football and spend a lot of time in the sun, will that help or make the white spots worse? It seems like a mild case on my neck.
