Is it ok to run while suffering tachycardia caused by alcohol withdrawal syndrome?

I'm on my second day of alcohol withdrawal and am having periodic panic attacks, nearly constant anxiety, and a rapid heart beat--which comes in waves.

I'm twenty-seven years old and otherwise healthy. Lying in bed all day has worsened the already-occurring insomnia and I feel I need to exercise.

What say you start with some yoga? Get a video from the library you don't have to buy one. Your body is going through enough right now. And seriously, ask a doctor about this. Alcohol withdrawal can be life threatening. This is not something to ask a well-meaning, but unqualified person on a site like this about.  (+ info)

Why is PAWS (Post acute withdrawal syndrome) so little known?

This is a condition that happens when people who take substances for along time, and peoples brain function actually changes its ability produce positive feelings.

Why is this condition not talked about much?
Why is it not discussed with children as cautionary warnings against drug abuse?
I have only heard about this 2 times and that seems strange to me considering how much information about rehab is widely known.

Very Good Point... I am with you.. More needs to be done to make people aware of this syndrome...

What is post acute withdrawal syndrome?

Why does this happen? I was just wondering about this because my friend's sister is going through this right now.
----------

Withdrawal symptoms happen because the body has gotten accustomed to the presence of alcohol or drugs. These kinds of substances have been known to affect the brain's functions and thus bring about dependence. When the body is deprived of the substance, symptoms of withdrawal arise. Post acute withdrawal symptoms happen when the individual is undergoing recovery. Some of these symptoms are as follows:

* Problems regarding clear thinking - sometimes, even the solving of the simplest of problems remains to be difficult for them.
* Problems with sleeping - they can develope insomnia or have trouble sleeping soundly
* Dreams of relapse - these can happen with or without the recognition of being in recovery
* long term and short term problems with memory
* Problems with coordination - they can be more clumsy

I do hope that your friend's sister will get to rid of these symptoms soon. It may take for as long as 6 months to 2 years.  (+ info)

Is withdrawal-syndrome more of a mental or physical aspect?

i was thinking more along the lines of working out..... i worked out every day last week and this week i haven't but i feel like i need to, dont know if its my body telling me to or my mind...
----------

It depends on what you are withdrawing from. If it is a physically addictive thing, like smack, you will have a physical withdrawl like vomiting, chills, etc. If it is not a physically addictive thing, like gum chewing, the withdrawl is simply a longing to do it, and is mental.  (+ info)

what is the treatment for corticosteroid (betamethasone) withdrawal syndrome?

My mother ages 65 having COPD and she was prescribed betamethasone by a local doctor and she has taken 10mg/day more than 10 months. She had swelling and edema further she is hospitalised. Senior doctors advised discontinuation and she is suffering withdrawal symptoms. fatigue, dull, insomnia etc. Please suggest the rehabilitation procedure
----------

They should have weaned her off the steroids slowly. The swelling in her legs is probably not due to the steroids. They have very little to do with fluid balance. Yes, keep her away from salt. At her age and with COPD she probably has some heart problems too which lead more often to Congestive Heart Failure and that's what's causing the swelling.
Ten mg is a small dose and some doctors wrongly think the patient can just come off of them. She should be put back on the steroids at 10mg for a week and then 5mg for another week. Then 5 mg every other day for another two weeks. If she has further symptoms while weaning off she is steroid dependent and should not be taken off of them.
The body produces natural steroids in the cortex of the adrenal glands which sit on top of the kidneys hence the name corticosteroids. If given steroids for a long period of time the cortex stops manufacturing it and won't start again. After ten months I suspect that's what happened.
God bless you for caring so much. Hope she feels better soon.  (+ info)

Can one die from alcohol withdrawal syndrome?

what is that?  (+ info)

Can a person die of withdrawal syndrome?

yes. there are problems with high blood pressure, seizures, and many other metabolic problems.

some depend on the drug, but most depends on the condition of the withdrawee. other factors would be how long the drug of choice has been used, the quantity using, and the age of the user.

we all know drug abuse is an equal opportunity affliction. so, the variables when detoxing are as individual as those going through it.

alcoholics tend to seize. and all drugs can induce high blood pressure that can cause a crisis if untreated.

i guess what i am trying to say is it is very important for an individual "kicking" to do so with medical staff nearby constantly taking the blood pressure and assessing the physical condition of the person withdrawing.

people get very "sick" going through this process anyway so it is important to keep them as comfortable as possible and have good nutrition available.  (+ info)
