How long does it take for a body to die of starvation?

just curious, but how long would it take for someone to die of starvation, on a water only diet?
----------

Normally speaking, if trapped, you would probably die of dehydration first. On a water only diet, your body would (in essence) eat off of itself. Time varies depending on the person, the climate, the conditions, body weight, and so on. Look at the people in the deprived countries. Your would probably develop other complications from being deprived of food that might kill you before starvation would.  (+ info)

Cry me a river, Jumpln
Okay. First of all, its wednesday TODAY smartasses.

and second of all, " selulite"!!?!??!?
oh boy. i didnt even know that existed.

oh thats right...it doesnt.
----------

I'm going to be honest with you. Starvation mode varies with different people. In other words, the amount of caloric deficit it takes for your body to go into starvation mode is different than what it would take for mine to. Usually it takes eating 50% or less of the amount of calories you need in a day for about a week, but this is always different for every person. So if you eat like this for one week, you will lose a lot of weight, 5-10 pounds or so but the next week you will slow down weight loss a little bit. If you continue to eat like this, you will continue to lose weight. Some idiots on this site like to say "Oh if you eat less than 1200 calories you'll go into starvation mode and GAIN WEIGHT!!!" They're completely wrong. The only problem, and I'm sure you already know this, is that most people can't continue to eat like this forever, and end up putting on every single pound they lost plus ten.

But, I'm not going to lecture you. I know you're going to do what you're going to do. You know what eating this little amount of calories can do to you.

Anyway, I hope I answered your question.  (+ info)

How many calories do I need to avoid starvation mode?

Hi I am 5ft tall. I weight 113 but I just want to drop to about 107, no less. I work out alot and I eat well.
I am going to cut my calories which is currently 1650 to maintain - but I don't want to get into starvation mode. Is 1200 ok? then when I reach my goal I will slowly add in calories to find how much I can eat to maintain.
Also if I were to accidentally get into starvation mode do I just eat more to get out?
thanks!
----------

1200 would be the absolute minimum. But be aware, you are not overweight now, so even with lower calories, and with working out, you may not lose weight, you'd do better to use a tape measure rather than a scale and work towards getting into the shape you want rather than a certain weight.

Just a word of warning about the spammer above talking about acai weight loss products and their so called free trials. There was a news broadcast just yesterday about these free trial scams, and how they cost consumers hundreds of dollars. You have to give your credit information to get this so called "free" trial, and they begin sending you stuff immediately... one woman had to close her credit account because she could not get them to stop sending and billing her hundreds for stuff that doesn't work and she didn't order.  (+ info)

How do I get my personal starvation mode number?

I know in most places, the number people refer to is always 1200 calories. 1200 calories is the least you should be consuming.
but i was wondering, does this change for specific heights/weights/ages?

I am female
15 years old.
5"0
115 lbs.
is my "starvation mode" also 1200 as well? because it's obvious a 30 year old male who is 6"3 and weighing 250 pounds does not have a "starvation mode" of 1200.

how do i find out MY personal starvation mode?
----------

Its generally around 1000 calories under what you actually need for the day.

A girl your weight would only need 1200 calories if you're not active whatsoever. Obviously you would need to eat more the more active you are. While you could eat slightly less than that and still be ok its not recommended because your body is still developing  (+ info)

Does changing your calories each day prevent starvation mode?

If I don't eat quite enough but I never have the same number 2 days in a row, will I not go into starvation mode?
----------

***Your metabolism preserves fat because its hungry its protecting you -**Its working a lot slower now so it doesnt burn up precious needs inside of your body if you start eating again it will slowly adjust to normal**

You need more then 2000 calories

Fruits
Veges
Protein - have more then 60 grams dude your big - buy skinless white meat and have a serving 5 times a day
If you miss a meal your body prepares for starvation
Your metabolism will then slow down my friend
Have fiber one - one cup only - you will number 2 very fast after meals
Some girls diet by taking laxatives
Have bread
Multi Vitamin
Calcium

A walk in the morning speeds your metabolism up allday

Soup is hella good

Green tea has 190 antioxidents that clean your body of toxins along with Fiber one - The fiber will clean your intestines so food can move along easier and none of it will get clogged leading to heart disease

If you overeat and dont digest by the next meal you will store it as fat

I was in your unknowledged situation lol Take this information and help yourself

Peace out  (+ info)

How long does it take the body to go into starvation mode?

I usually eat well and exercise but i have been sick for the past week and have not been able to eat much or exercise. I have been trying to lose weight and it has been going well but i just don't want to mess up my metabolism by having my body go into starvation mode from me not eating because of being sick so I am just wondering how long it takes for your body to go into starvation mode.
----------

For a normal healthy person at a good weight, they will start to starve after a week.

Humans can live for two weeks without food til serious effects happen, and i mean serious. But we can only live for 3 days without water, so if you ill just make sure you drink alot of water and you'll be fine, and when your better your metabolism will go back to a steady rate.  (+ info)

What happens after you increase your caloric intake after your body has been in starvation mode?

What happens after you increase your caloric intake after your body has been in starvation mode?

Does metabolism slowly get used to more food and even out so you don't gain weight, or are you stuck with a slow metabolism forever?
----------

after you have been starving yourself for a long time dont just jump to your required daily intake - add about 50cal/day every week so your body can get used to it (e.g. you eat 1000cal every day this week then next week eat 1050cal/day, a week after - 1100cal/day etc), dont eat less than 1000cal/day - its already too little, but its ok for a while till you get where you have to be.
you will gain weight at first but dont overobsess about it - because by starving body has lost water weight and muscle and its gona get all of that back.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain your weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)  (+ info)
