----------

I have been taking vitamin B supplements for 15 years. In order to feel better you must also eat foods that have vitamin B's in them. Also find out which B vitamin you are lacking and double up on it.
B12 will give you energy and boost your immune system Improvement may take several months depend on how severe the deficiency was  (+ info)

How do I know if I have iron deficiency anemia?

Sometimes I have moments when I get really cold, pale, dizzy, my legs and arms feel heavy, and I feel like I'm going to faint. I suspect it may be iron deficiency anemia but I want to get a second opinion. Any help?
----------

You are exhibiting most of the signs and symptoms of anemia. but anemia can be caused by several other conditions and not just the iron deficiency. It would be wise to go to your doctor so he can run some blood/lab test to rule out any other problems you have. A family/general practice doctor will be good enough to do this for you. or you can go directly to an internal medicine doctor. try taking some over the counter iron supplements to alleviate your symptoms while you are waiting for the doctor to see you.  (+ info)

How do you know if you have iron deficiency?

What are the symtoms and what do you do if you have iron deficiency?
----------

Your doctor checks the iron level of your blood. If you have the symptoms of an iron deficiency, you should go get your blood tested. Do not treat this one yourself! It is very possible to over dose on iron. Iron supplements should only be taken with doctor supervision.  (+ info)

Would a Magnesium deficiency cause your body to hoard iron?

I red once that if your body doesn't get enough of one type of mineral it will hoard another type for no reason. I have abnormally high iron levels and I also have all the basic symptoms of a magnesium deficiency.
----------

Magnesium (Mg) is a trace mineral that is known to be required for several hundred different functions in the body. A significant portion of the symptoms of many chronic disorders are identical to symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Studies show many people in the U.S. today do not consume the daily recommended amounts of Mg. A lack of this important nutrient may be a major factor in many common health problems in industrialized countries. Common conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, migraines, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, asthma and allergies have all been linked to a Mg deficiency. Perhaps not coincidentally, these conditions also tend to occur in clusters together within the same individual. A magnesium deficiency as a root cause would provide a logical explanation of why some people suffer from a constellation of these types of problems.

Allergies, Chemical Sensitivities
Anxiety and Psychiatric Disorders
Aorta Strength
Asthma
Attention Deficit Disorder
Calcification of Soft Tissue Including Heart Valve
Diabetes

With regard to skeletal muscle, one may experience twitches, cramps, muscle tension, muscle soreness, including back aches, neck pain, tension headaches and jaw joint (or TMJ) dysfunction. Also, one may experience chest tightness or a peculiar sensation that he can't take a deep breath. Sometimes a person may sigh a lot.

Symptoms involving impaired contraction of smooth muscles include constipation; urinary spasms; menstrual cramps; difficulty swallowing or a lump in the throat-especially provoked by eating sugar; photophobia, especially difficulty adjusting to oncoming bright headlights in the absence of eye disease; and loud noise sensitivity from stapedius muscle tension in the ear.

Other symptoms and signs of magnesium deficiency and discuss laboratory testing for this common condition. Continuing with the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, the central nervous system is markedly affected. Symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity and restlessness with constant movement, panic attacks, agoraphobia, and premenstrual irritability. Magnesium deficiency symptoms involving the peripheral nervous system include numbness, tingling, and other abnormal sensations, such as zips, zaps and vibratory sensations.

Symptoms or signs of the cardiovascular system include palpitations, heart arrhythmias, angina due to spasms of the coronary arteries, high blood pressure and mitral valve prolapse. Be aware that not all of the symptoms need to be present to presume magnesium deficiency; but, many of them often occur together. For example, people with mitral valve prolapse frequently have palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and premenstrual symptoms. People with magnesium deficiency often seem to be "uptight." Other general symptoms include a salt craving, both carbohydrate craving and carbohydrate intolerance, especially of chocolate, and breast tenderness.  (+ info)

What sort of improvements can i expect if take vitamin b-12 supplements for my deficiency?

i was recently diagnosed with this deficiency and was just curious what solving the problem would do for me
will i have more energy and be less depressed?
also will my metabolism work better?
----------

You will have MUCH more energy ... you won't need to sleep as much ... you'll be much happier ... your moods will improve ... I think you'll find that once your B12 levels are normal again you're going to feel fantastic!!

I too had a B12 deficiency and after taking supplements I felt sooo good afterwards, better than I ever had. I was giggly and hyperactive and happy again ... and I didn't feel like I needed to lay in bed all the time either, almost like a new lease on life.  (+ info)

Does a vitamin B deficiency occur when smoking pot?

Not only have I noticed that the detoxification cocktail is loaded with B vitamins almost exclusively, but the effects of smoking pot are similar to the effects of a vitamin b deficiency. Taking vitamin B can cure many of the side-effects of pot smoking. Are these things related? Does anyone else think this to be more than coincidence?
----------

Welli am NO medical doctor,.. nor have i done any research, however... i would assume that YES... it does. Whenever i have smoked and not taking my dialy vitamins, or exercised that day,.. i get a mild panic attack. Why? Well exercising and the vitamins raise your B levels, which also sustain a good hormone and energy level. SO i would assume.. yes, yes it does.  (+ info)

Do you need to eat first before taking an iron deficiency medication?

As the title says.
Is it really necessary to eat first before taking iron deficiency pills?? Or is it just a recommendation to make it work better? I mean will it not completely work if you don't eat first? Could it be dangerous?

Just wondering because my friend did and... I'm just wanted to know about her.

Thank you!
----------

For those who gave the first three answers, please don't get mad at me for my advise. I don't usually give advise freely, but I only do so to give the asker a more enlightened idea of the sea of opinions on the web.

The mere fact that the Ringo asked that question, it might have been that the doctor prescribing that medication had advised it. I would advise Ringo that you, or your friend rather, ask that doctor for the rationale behind eating first before taking the pill.

I cannot say due to lack of complete information whether it is safe or not because it was not given if the patient is suffering from other physiological problems. But that doctor could do so.

Pardon me for saying this Ringo, but posting this type of question here at Yahoo! Answers would just confuse you since it is a very sensitive question that requires expert opinion and not just those coming from the web.

But for caution's sake until you consult the doctor, I would go with the other two's advise of not taking the pill until having at least having a meal or at least while taking one. Each person has each own biological reactions to medications and given the limited information, I would be inclined to err on the safe side rather than risk ingesting the pill on an empty stomach until your doctor says it's okay.  (+ info)

what are the dark stripes that run down the nail bed of fingers and toes called, what deficiency causes them?

I didn't bump my finger or my toe, but I have dark lines that are only on certain fingers, my son gets the same thing, I'm wondering what vitamin deficiency produces these dark lines.
----------

An onset of streaky, painless dark lines on your fingernails — not related to bruising or an injury- merits a trip to the doctor, as it could be a sign of melanoma.  (+ info)
