Should I still be coughing blood 4 monthes after having a Pneumothorax?

had a spontaneous pneumothorax in December last year, with medication it got sorted out okay, but im still coughing up blood and brown stuff in my phlegm to this day,
is this normal for pneumothorax patients?

Thanks.

Hi, I had a few spontaneous pneumothorax's due to my lungs lining being too thin at the top. I never had any blood or anything come up and they'd go away by themselves.

When they started becoming more frequent and worser i had to have an operation to correct it. After the first couple of days i stopped coughing up blood and thats from an opration so i'd suggest you get checked out by the doc incase theres a problem with healing.  (+ info)

Is it safe for a Pneumothorax patient to travel by air?

Patients condition - Hemopneumothorax ( Blood in the lungs ), how long does it take to heal and when can the patient travel by air?

Will there be any problems with the patient due to the high altitude and decompression?

Thanks in advance.

Call the patient's doctor and ask. Even if a doctor answers on these boards, he/she does not know this patient's situation and is not able to give you an answer that addressed that particular patient's needs.  (+ info)

I feel a stabbing chest pain of sudden onset, with slight shortness of breath, Pneumothorax?

I read about it over the internet and I thought it was Pneumothorax. But I only get it 2-3 times a year. When I get it it feels like a sharp, stabbing chest pain of sudden onset, with slight shortness of breath. But I have went to the doctor and the doctor said it was nothing. I know I get it sometimes once a year at times, but I want to know if it is something serious or not, what should I do?
Yes, it does go away after like 10-20 secs.
----------

Pneumothorax is the collection of air or gas in the space around the lungs. It DOES NOT go away in 20-30 seconds. Listen to your doctor, its not a pneumo!!!!!!! Any kind of chest pain should be evaluated. Your age and medical history also play a huge part.  (+ info)

How serious is a pneumothorax really?

In an otherwise healthy person. I've had two pneumothoraces on the same side and my doctor wants me to have a surgery done but I don't see the need as I've always recovered.
Thank you for the answers. The reason I am hesitant about the surgery is there is a good chance there will be long term discomfort and/or pain. That's what I have been hearing from others who have had the surgery.

The risk with a pneumothorax that we are always concerned about, is that it may get big enough that it causes the heart to move toward the unaffected side. This is bad!!  (+ info)

if you hav a pneumothorax and then 6 days later you go on an 18hour flight wat will happen?

wat chance is ther of them dying and why wud they die? be honest - dont exxagerate to b on th safe side or wateva. cos i jus wana kno even tho mi bf is probly gna go regardless of wat i tell him.
----------

If you have an unresolved pneumothorax, you run the risk of it becoming a tension pneumothorax due to the change in air pressure around you. If you had a pneumothorax, but the lung is up and healing you run the risk of another pneumothorax. But if the lung is up, chances are it is not going to collapse, but the person will probably have chest pain and tightness, maybe some shortness of breath especially on take off and landing. It is not advised to fly so soon after a pneumothorax. Most pulmonologists recommend waiting 4 weeks after a collapse and 6-8 weeks after surgery.  (+ info)

Can any one tell me if someone has a tension pneumothorax what is there chance of pulling through ?

Asking because my cousin was in a car crash and shes got tension pneumothorax. Also could you tell me what the treatment for it is ?

Thanks
----------

This condition must have already been treated, as if left it is rapidly fatal. A chest drain is inserted into the damaged lung which takes the pressure of and allows the lung to re-inflate.  (+ info)

In regards to a tension pneumothorax treatment, what does ICC stand for?

I guess its a chest drain or something, but can someone tell me exactly what it stands for?
----------

Intercostal catheter. Its a drain that goes, well, intercostal!! That means in the space between ribs.  (+ info)

how long should I wait before playing sports after having surgery for pneumothorax?

i had a pneumothorax a month ago and had VATS surgery about 2 weeks and 3 days ago. Its been 2 weeks since i was released from the hospital. When can i start playing sports?
it was a spontaneous pneumothorax
----------

Me again

My surgery for pneumo was 4 weeks ago. Has your doctor cleared you of sports? Mine has, but I'm taking it slow, a little at a time. In my mind, I should be able to do so much, but when I try, I get out of breath really easily.

Again, if your doc has cleared you, start doing what you think you can handle but don't be discouraged if you can't do 100 percent right away.

BTW mine was spontaneous too. I've had three of them - and then finally they thought they should do surgery to prevent the lung from collapsing again.

Check out www.blebdisease.com - a forum for people who have had spontaneous pnemothorax - you can ask and answer questions there all about it.  (+ info)
