how can an embryo implant itself into the peritoneal cavity?

The ovaries and the fallopian tubes aren't attached, they're just sitting next to each other so an egg doesn't have to go into the fallopian tube sitting next to it. Apparently, there is a chemical signal telling the egg where to go and it can wander over to the fallopian tube on the other side of the body and go into the uterus. But to answer your question, the sperm swim up the vagina, through the uterus, through the fallopian tube, find the egg, implant, then the zygote (egg+sperm) gets lost and implants where it's not supposed to. There are chemical signals telling it where to go, so it's extremely rare (like winning the lottery rare), but it happens on occasion. I was told in nursing school about a case of fraternal twins where one was inside the uterus and the other was in the abdomen. The one in the uterus was delivered vaginally and the other was delivered by c-section. Apparently they didn't know one wasn't in the uterus or they would've delivered them both by c-section I would imagine. Anyway, that's what happens. :-)

Here's a diagram of the reproductive system. You can see that the fallopian tube and ovary are not attached:

How is fluid removed from peritoneal?

a pool caused by recent surgery
----------

Ascites (peritoneal fluid) is removed by paracentesis. Sometimes ultrasound is used to find a pocket of fluid within the abdomen. Other times the abdomen is so enlarged from fluid that there really is no need to do so. Lidocaine is used to numb the skin, then a needle is inserted into the abdomen to remove the fluid. Several liters of fluid can be removed. Usually, patients feel much more comfortable after the procedure, because a sense of pressure from the excess fluid has been relieved.  (+ info)
