Germanium is one of the most dynamic new discoveries in the realm of trace elements necessary for optimum nutritional health. It raises the level of activity of various organs (facilitates oxygen uptake) and helps to expel harmful pollutants and arrest germ activity. Germanium serves as an electrical semiconductor by helping correct distortions in the electrical fields of the body.
Germanium is still being researched for all of its possible supplementary applications. It is believed to act as an anti-cancer agent, and is effective for viral, bacterial and fungal infections.
Poor immune system, low energy and cancer indicate Germanium deficiencies.
Symptoms of Germanium Deficiency
•asthma
•cancer (breast, lung, bladder)
•cardiac insufficiency
•hypertension
•hepatic cirrhosis
•leukemia
•neuralgia
•nephritis
•neurotic disorders
•softening of brain tissue
Natural Sources
•garlic
•ginseng
•aloe vera
•comfrey
•all chlorophyll-rich foods
•shiitake mushrooms
•healing herbs

my nephew had it when he was younger but it went away, he was always in the hospital! He was on prednisone and a bunch of other meds! I was young when he had it but I remember the doctors always saying to watch his diet! He would swell up so much before he would get sick again!! I think he was about 9 or 10 when he out-grew it! Sorry I can't be more help! I know how stressful this disease can be! My thoughts and prayers are with you and family!
I read that Demi Moore had it as a kid!  (+ info)

how common is nephrotic syndrome in adults with diabetes?

What kidney problems can be caused by diabetes?

Kidney disease, or nephropathy, is a frequent complication of diabetes, both type 1 and type 2, and often ends in end-stage renal disease (kidney failure).

Ten to 21% of all people with diabetes have nephropathy.

Diabetes is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. Diabetic nephropathy is a progressive disease that takes several years to develop. Many tiny blood vessels in the kidney act as filters to remove wastes, chemicals, and excess water from the blood. In diabetic nephropathy, these blood vessels are damaged, become leaky, and protein eventually spills into the urine (proteinuria). Eventually, the damaged filters are destroyed, putting more stress on the remaining filters and eventually causing them to become damaged. When the entire filtration system breaks down, the kidneys fail to function, and this is called end-stage renal disease (ESRD). ESRD is a condition where the patient requires dialysis or a kidney transplant in order to live.

Approximately 43% of new cases of ESRD are attributed to diabetes.

In 2000, 41,046 people with diabetes initiated treatment for end-stage renal disease, and 129,183 people with diabetes underwent dialysis or kidney transplantation.

ESRD incidence attributed to diabetes is increasing more rapidly than ESRD due to other causes. From 1988 to 1991, diabetes accounted for 33.8% of new ESRD cases, up from 23% of new cases in 1982. By 1999, this number reached 43%.

In the United States, the incidence of reported ESRD in people with diabetes is more than 4 times as high in African Americans, 4 to 6 times as high in Mexican Americans and 6 times as high in Native Americans than in the general population of diabetes patients.

The risk of ESRD is 12 times as high in people with type 1 diabetes as in those with type 2 diabetes.

In patients with type 1 diabetes who develop persistent proteinuria (protein in the urine), ESRD or death usually follows after about 5-10 years.
Can diabetes-related kidney problems be prevented?
The key to preventing diabetes-related kidney problems begins with good control of blood glucose levels, control of blood pressure and regular screening by a health care professional.  (+ info)

if child with nephrotic syndrome on steroid ,when we can give pneumococcal vaccination?

if child who is on steroid treatment for nephrotic syndrome, how long should we wait after treatment till we can give him pneumococcal vaccine??
----------

I'm not a doctor, but you need to bring up this concern of your's to her nephrologist the next time you visit them. You can also talk to their pediatrician. That would be the best path. You need to ask before doing it, because vaccinations may contain versions of viruses and bacteria that can be problematic to those with Nephrotic syndrome.  (+ info)

How is nephrotic syndrome treated?
Treatment of nephrotic syndrome will depend on whether you are an adult or a child and the cause of the condition. You may have medication, and your doctor may suggest a special diet that is low in salt. Medications may include:

ACE inhibitors, for relaxing and widening blood vessels for better flow.
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), for relaxing and widening blood vessels for better flow.
Steroids, for stopping protein leaks.
Diuretics, for removing extra water, sodium, and potassium.
Salt-free albumin, for returning water to a normal circulation pattern.
Children with nephrotic syndrome tend to respond to treatment better than adults  (+ info)

Hi, I'm the father a little girl having a nephrotic syndrom and she has sometimes pain in back due to kidneys especially when she is relapsing. But she neither felt like paralyzed. So I would suggest you to look for more infos on www.nephcure.org, it's a patients association funding researchs on NS and they also have forums where you could find a lot of answers.
And, of course, go and talk to a specialist.
So all the best to you both and I hope you'll find an answer and support.  (+ info)
