Has anyone had surgery on the brain for a meningioma?

I was dignosed with a 2.3 cm meningioma and was wondering if anyone had had the surgery
----------

This is a completely benign tumor and complete removal should leave no residual problems.  (+ info)

My mom got an MRI done and they think it is meningioma??

My moms MRI came back and was told by her Dr and her neurologist that it is a probable benign calcification or meningioma. She is having no symptoms at all.
A very reputable radiologist read the MRI.
They say people might not even know they have this condition unless it is accidently found.
..they told her they wanted a cat scan done with contrast to double check.
I am sooo close with my mom and I dont know what I would do if it was something worse.
Are MRI's usually accurate??
----------

Ya they are..
The thing with MRI's is that they show you everything..
And sometimes they miss someething..
Thats a good thing and a bad..
The good thing is they could say oh wait thats not what
it is.
Its something else..
But then again they could find something else wrong..
But listen all you can do is pray for her.. Thats the most u can do and thats the only thing that can help..
So just keep her in your prayers and remember to be there for her if she needs anything...
Show her you are there for her and love her..
Good luck and God Bless!!!! :]  (+ info)

Just found out Dad has meningioma tumor...AGAIN. Anyone else dealing with repeated meningiomas?

My dad is only 56 years old (and is in excellent health otherwise) but has had 4 brain tumors in the last 3 years. He has had them removed surgically up to this point, but they are thinking about radiation with this 4th one. His neurologist says that my dad may have reoccurring brain tumors for the rest of his life unless they remove a part of the skull called the "dura" (spelling?). I was just wondering if anyone here has dealt with the same issue.

Also, my dad spent almost 30 years working in a tire factory. Quite a few of the retired employees are now having health problems (especially tumor related). Does anyone have any correlating info on rubber companies and tumors??? Thanks.
----------

I don't know anything about your Dad's condition but I can tell you that my grandfather worked for Union Carbide probably using the same type of chemicals your Dad did at his job. My grandfather sucumbed to his final brain tumor in 1986, my grandmother won along with others a lawsuit that correlated a connection between his cancer and the chemicals. Good Luck to you and your Dad.  (+ info)

How likely is survival/remission with brain cancer?

My mum has meningioma and is thirty seven...I was just wondering if there was a chance she might get better?
----------

Meningiomas are tumors of the 3 coverings of the brain (meninges) and are typically benign, but press on brain structures and cause neurological symptoms. There are meningiomas that become malignant, though.
Has she had any of the masses removed? Are there further plans for operations to remove them?
There is a decent chance of her getting better.
Your best course is to speak to either the neurosurgeon or oncologist. Only they can give accurate information about your mom's condition and prognosis.  (+ info)

Amenorrhea, weight, hypothyroid - not PCOS, Wilson's, or meningioma??? Suffering for 10+ years, need help!!!

1. Never got period & now mid-20's. Pains in pelvic region off & on since age 14.
2. Cannot lose OR gain weight. Vegan diet w/ exercise, so excessive weight unexplainable.
3. Frequently dizzy & blurry vision.
4. Hypothyroidism that comes & goes.
5. Darkening of skin around lips, on elbows & knees. Very dry skin.
6. Constantly have a cold/sinus infection. Very low immunity.
7. Easy & excessive bruising.
8. Tendency to feel cold. Cold extremities.
9. Cannot sleep a full night.
10. Periods of low energy followed by hyperactivity.
11. Decreased mental functions & increased distractability.
12. Muscle aches/strains that won't heal. Arthritic-like aching.
13. OCD tendencies.
14. Kidney & organ tenderness when examined.
15. Extremity tingles & "falling asleep."
16. Slight incontinence. Bowel irritability.

Seen many doctors, no diagnosis. Tested for everything via MRI's, CT scans, bloodwork, urinalysis, ultrasounds.

Is anyone suffering similarly? Anyone diagnosed?
----------

I'm not sure that all of these things are connected--maybe there's more than one problem responsible for your symptoms. Have you been checked for Cushing's syndrome? It's a problem of the adrenal glands that is sometimes misdiagnosed as PCOS. Endometriosis would also explain the lack of peroids and the pelvic pain. Some of your symptoms also sound like they could be diabetes, and the hypothyroidism may be playing a part too--it can cause symptoms that also lead it to be misdiagnosed as PCOS.

Are you getting enough B vitamins? A lot of your symptoms match those of vitamin B deficiencies. I've included a link below so you can see if it sounds like your symptoms. Sometimes vegetarians and vegans don't get enough B vitamins because many of them are found in animal products. You may want to try a vegan B vitamin supplement or add things like nutritional yeast to your diet.  (+ info)

Has anyone here been pregnant with a meningioma tumour in their brain?

Kind of a strange question. But I have a tumour in my brain in which they're pretty sure is benign. I was supposed to get another CT Scan or an MRI in December to make sure that it's not growing. Since I'm pregnant they are most likely going to cancel that. I have one concern - I've read that estrogen can affect these types of tumors even if they are benign and cause them to grow bigger. I've also heard that a small increase in it's size can cause headaches. Since I've discovered that I'm pregnant I've had headaches/migraines everyday. This could just be from being in my first trimester.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this from experience or just plain knowledge?

Thanks.

sorry to say i don't know much, but i wish you the best and that everything goes well, stay positive and talk to your doctor.  (+ info)

SOL with scattered calcification -- meningioma -- enlighten?

Meningiomas are the most common benign tumors of the brain (95% of benign tumors). They arise from the dura mater (outer most layer of the meninges to which the arachnoid mater connects) in the meninges of the brain or the spinal cord and represent about 15% of all primary brain tumors. They are more common in females than in males (2:1) and has a peak incidence in the sixth and seventh decades. Most cases are sporadic while some are familial. There has been some evidence that persons who have undergone radiation to the scalp are more at risk for developing meningiomas. The most frequent genetic mutations involved in meningiomas are inactivation mutations in the neurofibromatosis 2 gene (merlin) on chromosome 22q.  (+ info)

My father was diagnosed with a benign skull based meningioma tumor he is 50 he went for surgery?

The surgery went better then they expected now it is no longer pressing on any nerves he is a perfect candidate for 3d radiotherapy. There is. 60 percent chance that it will stop tumor growth and he will live a normal life. Not the best odds but still pretty good. The thing we have on our side it is phase one very slow growing doctor suspect 10-15 years slow. However there is only so much rm in the brain and another surgery will be difficult it is operable but risky since it lays around optic nerves and coratory arteries. They may be able to chip away but they sed he could only handle about 3 surgeries. Hes working and looks better then ever.

My question is has anyone had this what was your experience with radiotherapy ? Did it work for you and my main purpose for submitting this is anyone aware of NON MEDICINAL or NATURAL methods that kill dna in these types of benign brain tumors.

Some other info on him. He is very strong was walking 8 hrs after 9hr brain operation. In addition he is at a top brain hospital in New York.
----------

There are no non medical things that will help. Radiotherapy is his best bet  (+ info)
