treatment of leukopenia?

doing a report in my pharmacy class, and the web isn't being very helpful in telling me treatmemts for leukopenia. any help?
----------

Leukopenia is generally the decrease of white blood cells. White blood cells are composed of Neutrophils , lymphoctes, Monocytes, Eosinophils. Neutropenia is the decrease in netrophils, Lymphocytopenia is the decrease in lymphocytes, Monocytopenia, decrease in monocytes and eosinopenia, decrease in eosinophils.

Decrease in white blood cell are caused by the following:
1. Decreased production - Hematologic diseases, drug induced, tumor invasion, nutritional deficiency and infection.

2. Peripheral destruction - antineutrophil antibodies, splenic trapping, autoimmune disorders, drugs.

3. Peripheral margination - overwhelming bacterial infection, hemodialysis, Cardiopulmonary bypass.

Knowing these, management of leukopenia is directed towards these causes.  (+ info)

how to cure leukopenia- it means a low level of leukyciytes i mean,?

Neupogen or Leukine are both able to stimulate increased white blood cell production from the bone marrow. Both drugs are FDA approved.

It would be useful to discover the cause of your leukopenia, however. Are you on immunosuppressant drugs? Do you have HIV? If there are other treatable factors, then you should fix those first before attempting drug therapy.  (+ info)

leukopenia & leukemia..............?

i've just found that leukemia is 'cancer of the blood' i didnt know this before

i have leukopenia (low wbc, which i believe is due to a poor diet)

can this result in or cause leukemia directly..?
my heart rate is also low, generally, not sure if this also has any effect/impact on the leukopenia or chances.......... : / ..

Are you in chemo treatment for your leukemia? It's probably due to the treatment you received.
Then you need to consume multivitamins/herbs like Rodent Tuber (plant) juice to boost your immune system.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Leukopenia information help please?

I know that leukopenia is where the total number of leukocytes in the circulating blood is less than normal. Now I just wanna find out if:

1. it is curable?
2. it leads to leukemia?

I am paranoid. @_@ I don't want my mom to die.
Additional Info:

She is 38 years old. Working for about 24 years in his office where in she have abnormal schedules. She hardly find sleep due to responsibilities at home (taking care of my brothers: feeding them, preparing them before and after school, cooking, laundrying etc.), not only at her work. Is that the reason why she had leukopenia?
PS: She is not diabetic. She only have scoliosis.

Does anybody know what types of common medications can cause leukopenia (decrease in white blood cells)?

There are quite a few medications that can cause leukopenia:
benzthiazide
thorazine
cefadyl
ormazine
hydrex
Also, almost all cancer treatment drugs can cause leukopenia.
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Here is a list of many more:

What term describes the destruction of white blood cells faster than they can be produced?

such as in a patient with an overwhelming infection?
A. Anemia
B. Leukopenia
C. Leukocytosis
D. Polycythemia
----------

B) Leukopenia : an abnormal decrease in the number of white blood cells ( WBC's). Normal range of WBC's is 5,000 - 10,000 ( Adult and child > 2 years ). With Leukopenia, the count is less than 5,000 cells per cu mm.
Decreased levels can be caused by an adverse drug reaction ( drug toxicity), bone marrow failure, overwhelming infections, dietary deficiency, autoimmune diseases, bone marrow infiltration,( myelofibrosis), congenital marrow aplasia . Yeah, kind of technical, but since you are familiar with medical terms, I thought to mention more information in regards to Leukopenia. I hope that this is helpful.  (+ info)

What could be the cause of leukopenia and long-term illness?

About 2 and a half years ago I started to have headaches and overwhelming tiredness.
I was sent for an MRI and everything appeared normal.

A couple of months later I started to suffer from recurrent infections and illnesses.

In the last 2 years I have had many infections including:
Recurrent UTI's, kidney infection, recurrent uvulitis, ear infections, recurrent thrush, lymphadenitis and cellulitis (the last 2 requiring hospitalisation).

I have also had lots of viruses, colds and flu symptoms.

On a regular basis I suffer from migraines/headaches, aching limbs, neck, shoulders and backache, numbness in arms and hands, with loss of dexterity in the fingers, fatigue, skipped heart-beats and chest pain, 'brain fog' and occasional blurred vision, occasional low grade fever, and more recently muscle twitching, spasms and cramps.

I eat a healthy diet although I am unable to exercise due to chronic pain. I have put on 2 stone in 2 years but this may be due to lack of exercise and my age - 40 years. I have also had bouts of depression, usually as a result of being so fed up of it all.

I was referred to an Infectious Diseases Specialist about 18 months ago, and initially it was suggested possible CFS. She has run many blood tests to rule out things like thyroid, diabetes and HIV, and I have also had an ECG and cardiac scan.

Although my blood tests are usually relatively normal (apart from when I am really ill), the one thing that does crop up almost every time is a low white blood cell count. Neutropenia and leukopenia have been noted on several occasions.
I recently had another test and all was normal apart from a low absolute leukocyte count (normal range 1.5 - 4.......mine was 1.1).
As yet I still don't have a diagnosis and I am really wanting some answers so that I can begin treatment or a cure.
I am fed up of having so many illnesses and infections and feeling so damn ill all the time, and having no idea of the prognosis.

Am I right in assuming that the reason I am always getting ill is because of the leukopenia? Or is the leukopenia a result of always being ill?

Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the cause?
Or any suggestions of a diagnosis?
Or can you suggest or recommend any more tests?

I would be very grateful for any assistance, thanks.
I also suffer from a lot of sores, on my mouth and in my nose, and get lots of mouth ulcers.
