Will drinking coffee get in the way of inducing ketosis?

I'm trying to get into a state of ketosis and I want to know if drinking coffee will get in the way of that.
----------

Are you talking about ketosis like in the Atkin's Diet? It's said to stay away from too much caffeine when you're on that diet. Why, I don't know, but I would stay away.  (+ info)

Can your body enter ketosis on a very low calorie diet?

From what I understand your body enters ketosis when you eat very little carbs because your body burns carbs first and then burns fat. So is it safe to say that if you are on a very low calorie diet and still eat carbs, your body will enter ketosis after you burn all the calories you have been eating on your low calorie diet?
----------

Correct. However, you must actually use all the carbohydrate for ketosis to occur first. If your carbohydrate intake is still above 50+ grams a day then this probably won't occur unless you work out a lot.  (+ info)

How fast do you lose weight when in Ketosis, eating less than 5g of carbs?

How fast will you lose weight when you're in Ketosis? Can you lose 5-7lb a week?
Oh and I don't really care about my health, I just want to know the answer to the question!
----------

It really depends on your overall diet, current bodyfat levels and activity. If you're truly in ketosis, that means you've struck a good balance with your protein and fat intake and activity levels. Fat burning activity should still occur during ketosis or else loss could come pretty slowly - the only time I've personally observed ketosis is with bodybuilders trying to cut their bodyfat percentage to very low levels, and they are still lifting intensily and regularly as well as doing some form of low intensity cardio.

Fat loss will still occur at a relatively max rate of 1-2 pounds per week. If you lose 5-7 pounds per week, that will be in the form of muscle proteins and you'd no longer be in ketosis since the protein is then converted to glucose, and essentially you are just on a starvation type diet.

I suggest keeping a log of bodyfat loss, get a pair of calipers and learn how to use them correctly, and get the keto strips that you use to verify you are actually in ketosis.

It's generally accepted by sports nutritionists that for most people, maintaining ketosis over a long period of time is not that healthy. Any sort of "weight loss" program will require patience and diligence, or else you end up losing muscle along with bodyfat.

I do hope you were kidding about what you say about your health. Health should always be of paramount importance. If you take your health seriously, believe me that everything else falls into place, including appearance. Good luck!  (+ info)

how much is too much protein when trying to induce ketosis?

i heard too much protein can stop my body from inducing ketosis. Its kind of hard to not consume a lot of protein when most things that are low carb are meats and fish which are full of protein so how much is too much? i think im consuming around 100 grams of protein a day and i work out every day for 40 mins.
----------

Protein does not stop ketosis at all. You're supposed to have about 55% of your diet protein, 40% fat, and 5% carbs (or around there). Ketosis stops when you eat too many carbs. And to the person who says that ketosis is catabolic is an idiot. Ketosis is when your body begins to burn fat instead of carbs for energy, which lowers bodyfat and provides you with a constant source of energy, unlike the fluctuating levels of energies from carbs.  (+ info)

What is the quickest way to go into ketosis?

I know not eating carbs, but could i speed it up by exercising? Will it take longer if I ate a lot of carbs the day before?
----------

If you eat zero carbohydrates; then once you have exhausted your body's glycogen stores, your body will become ketogenic and your liver will start gluconeogenesis. Your glycogen stores will be exhausted after a 12 mile run for example. Medium chain tryglycerides as found in coconut oil are highly ketogenic. Consuming these speeds ketosis and can even maintain ketosis on a slightly less strict carbohydrate regimen.  (+ info)

can i still benefit from a low carb diet if i dont induce ketosis?

----------

What will speed up the process of making your body going into ketosis?

What do i need to eat to still be able to get my body into Ketosis.?

...I still want to be able to lose body fat every day, probably about 2 pounds a day in Ketosis.
----------

Forget the 2 pounds a day idea because its not going to happen. Keep carbs very very very low, dont have any carbs basically. Just protein and salad. That will put your body into ketosis, keep carbs under 50g a day.  (+ info)

How long before the body goes into ketosis state? Serious answers only.?

I'm eliminating carbohydrates in my diet, how long before my body starts running in a ketosis state.

I was told you will become sluggish at first. How long does this last before your brain/nervous system starts to adapt to fat for glycogen?

Also a bonus question, how many grams of crabs can through your body back out of ketosis state?
----------

It only took me 3 days to enter ketosis, some it can take a week or so. Just depends on your body. Also it's best to stay under 50 carbs a day though it can vary from person to person. Depends on your weight/height/age ect..  (+ info)

Do you gain weight if you eat carbs and break ketosis?

If you're in a state of ketosis, losing weight and not eating carbs for about a week, and then you do eat carbs, do you gain more weight that if you had been eating normally including carbs?
----------

You should avoid eating too many carbs after coming out of ketosis because of course the excess (that is not being used as fuel) will be stored as fat. You need to gradually reintroduce the carbs so your body can get used to using them as an energy source again.

So don't go eating a whole loaf of bread or anything lol.  (+ info)
