Would I be suitable for laser eye surgery?

I am no longer allowed to wear contact lenses because i got ulcerative keratitis (ulcers that form on your cornea caused by wearing lenses too long or not cleaning them properly) and for me wearing glasses isnt an option as i generally hate them although i need them. Because i have scarring on my right eye and i also have blepharitis will these mean that i wont be able to get laser eye surgery as ive been couting on getting it for ages now and soon il be old enough. Thanks.

I'm no doctor but I would say no because of the scarring on your right eye and the Blepharitis. I would talk to your eye doctor for more information.

Hope that helped!!  (+ info)

lasik surgery after having keratitis?

Has anyone been able to have lasik surgery after having Keratits?? Please let me know. Thanks !!!
To Princeidoc: According to my the doctors I have been seeing it is because of contact lens overuse, but I also do suffer from dry eyes naturally. Thats what they tell me, but I personally don't feel it, ut I still kepp hydrated. I have not used contact lenses for like 3 months, and I hate wearing glasses. They have scared me by telling me that I might not be able to wear lenses ever again. I can not go through life wearing these galsses. It may sound vaniful, but I look horrible in my glasses. I have a very high prescription, and even though, I paid to have them thinned out, it still looks bad. My self esteem is on the floor. My only option would be to get the lasik.
----------

it depends on what kind of keratitis. there are dozens of types. most docs recommend against having any refractive surgery when the keratitis is either recurrent or scarring (like herpes simplex viral keratitis). also if the keratitis is the result of dryness like superficial punctate keratitis, itsnot a great idea to have lasik in those cases, either.

but say CL-induced keratitis...lasik wouldnt be contraindicated in that case.

so it depends on what kind of keratitis you're talking about  (+ info)

Does anybody have herpes simplex keratitis (optical herpes)?

About 3 months ago i found out that i have a herpes ulcer scar on my cornea, and if i continue getting herpe outbreaks in my eye that i will eventually need a cornea transplant because it will cause blindness. I've been taking acyclovir for about a year now (i have genital herpes also) i missed it yesterday and now I'm having all of the symptoms of another outbreak in my eye!! Im going to the doctors tomorrow but im just curious to know if anybody else has it, how many outbreaks they have had and how long they have had it.
----------

nope, don't have it.
but I wanted to say that all the information your doctors stated is absolutely correct. It is a common cause of corneal blindness, so do your best not to miss any doses of your medication.

Corneal transplants are NOT a walk through the park - though most people do well, there are some potentially devastating complications (like infection in the eye after the surgery). So plan on keeping your own corneas as long as possible ! (:-)  (+ info)

How do I know if I have Acanthamoeba keratitis?

I spent the weekend at the beach with a friend and forgot to pack contact solution. So I took my contacts out and dropped one on the nasty floor in the bathroom of our condo. And since I wasn't able to get solution that night I used tap water and then bottled water to wash them off and then put them back in. Later that night i took them out dropped a few drops of bottled water in the case and put them back in in the morning. It's almost been two days and I feel like i have something in my eye but it isn't hurting really or burning that bad, and idk if its sensative to light or not. Its a little red but not bad.
But anyway... I am just wandering how I will be able to tell for sure if I need to see a doctor.
and how much time I have before it affects my vision.
Can anyone help PLEASE?
Thanks in advance.

What is wrong with my eye? Do I have pink eye or keratitis?

I had conjunctivitis about a week ago in my left eye. The doc gave me drops and I seemed to be over it. Now my eye is pink again. I wear contacts and sleep with them in. I haven't removed them since the conjunctivitis went away. There is no ulcer visible and I don't feel any pain. There also isn't any discharge yet. I don't know if this is related but my tonsils hurt. I have since removed my contact from my left eye but it is still pink. PLEASE HELP!
I wear new contacts since having conjunctivitis.
----------

Leave the contacts out, and put the drops in the eye that is red. I don't think your sore throat has anything to do with it, or your tonsils. If there is no discharge from your eye chances are it isn't pink eye, but I would go with the drops just to be sure.
thank you  (+ info)

What kind of eye problems cause you to have a thick sticky glue like film covering the eyes .?

I have been told it is a form of Keratitis? I don't have pain much only once in a while I'll have a sharp pain not often. My eye that is bothering me the most that day waters but not all the time. It takes me a hour in the morning to clear my eyes some. It never goes away just gets worse some days. I'm losing my eye sight! This can't be because I'm 50? I Had good eyes up until I was exposed to microtoxins, do you think that could be something to look at?
----------

Go see an ophthalmologist. Treatment for keratitis varies depending on the location and cause. Usually the cornea (clear part of the eye) is compromised, this can lead to ulcers which can permenantly deteriote vision, the most likely cause is to be bacteria, so topical antibiotics will fight the infection and corticosteriods can help with the alleviate the pain anf reduce inflammation.  (+ info)

Did you know storing soft contact lenses in tap water can cause blindness?

I was horrified to see so many suggestions of storing contact lenses in water when someone asked what to do with them when they had forgotten their case. This leads to a higher risk of contacting acanthamoeba keratitis, which is incredibily painful and can lead to blindness.
----------

Oh my God, I didn't know that. I have to tell my friend.  (+ info)

How long will I wait to heal my eyes?

I went to an eye doctor for conjunctivitis and give me and eye drop which heals after four days but after that my vision turns cloudy ,went back to the doctor and say I have thygeson keratitis and give me steroid drop which never work, Then I decided to go for another opthalmologist for 2nd opinion and he say I had a virus infection of cornea due to recent conjuctivitis .my question is--is there anybody experience my situation and is ther any hope for recovery
----------

I'm not sure if I had exactly what you do, but I kept constantly getting ulcers on my cornea, and had to take steroid drops, and I had to get lasik eye surgery before I went blind. This was about a year ago. I still have problems with my eyes every now and then. I know how bad it sucks.  (+ info)

Ocular Herpes = Can never wear contacts again?

I have blurry vision and a case of keratitis in my right eye for some time. Every time the condition gets better and I put my contacts back on again, it goes back to being blurry.

My ophthalmologist suggests that it may be ocular herpes. She said that if this is the case, even after my eye heals, I can never wear contacts again. Is this true?
----------

your ophthalmologist knows best. they have your full clinical history and they know what condition your eyes are in. I would listen to what the experts say rather than any person on here  (+ info)
