Acanthamoeba Keratitis.I might have it?

Well, a few weeks ago i went into a water park. I had my contacts on while i was in the water. Then after that i continued wearing it. Then 3 days after that i noticed a gray spot on my eye. i went to the eye doctor's office and they told me i have an infiltration and dry eyes. i was like okay. then i went for a follow up and they said it was better. i'm going for another follow up. i read about how you get Acanthamoeba Keratitis and i do all of the thing your not suppose to do. But the funny thing is i've never had any of the symptons. yet now im wearing glasses not contacts. and when i take my glasses off and go outside i have to blink cause of the light it's weird well cause im not used to having my glasses off. Do you think i might have it/ or do u think mayb i'm lucky and now i have to start taking car eof my eyes.

Acanthamoeba is a quite rare disease. I have been in practice since 1983 and have yet to actually see one. Chances are good that you have a more common bacterial corneal ulcer.  (+ info)

Conjunctivitis or Keratitis?

I wear contact lenses on a daily basis for around 8 - 10 hours a day. Yesterday I woke up with my right eye very itchy and could feel something in it, when I looked in the mirror I could see something that resembled my contact lens on the cornea. I knew I had definitely taken out my contact lens (i checked my lens case to be sure and they were definitely there.) Anyway I put a cotton wool pad rinsed in ice cold water which took the swelling and redness down slightly but I could still feel something in my eye. Today I went to see the optician and he said i have conjunctivitis and gave me Chlorophenicol eye drops and advised me not to wear my contacts for a week. I asked him if it could be a corneal ulcer and he said no it wasn't. Then later on in the day I had an appointment at my doctors for something else and while there my doctor couldn't help but had a look at my eye as it was slightly red at this point. The doctor says its keratitis and has given me Betnesol drops. Am so confused as to what my condition is and which medication I am supposed to be using. To make matters worse my opticians don't have a regular optician in, the earliest they will have an optician in will be Friday. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Keep away from the contacts.
It is very unlikely that you have an ulcer.
See the thing is here that you have an infection of the eye.
So you need an antibiotic drop, which is the Chlorophenicol
Alot of people stay away from the Betnesol which is a steroid, that can make things worst.
This is conjunctivitis, infection of the front clear part of the eye, use the antibiotic.

What do Herpes Keratitis (ocular herpes) outbreaks look and feel like?

Before I knew that you could get herpes in the eye, I would sometimes wipe my eye during a herpes out break after I would sometimes prod at it. Now I have a pain in one of my eyes that'll last a minute or two every other day. I have that "foreign body" sensation in both of my eyes. It'll sometimes make my eye instantly start itching. That "sharp pain" that I wouldn't describe as a pain, but a very sharp itch. And my eyes look a bit red with a vein in either eye that looks the same every day. Does this sound like ocular herpes, and what do Herpes Keratitis outbreaks look and feell ike?

the symptoms are
* Pain
* Blurred vision
* Tearing
* Redness
* Extreme sensitivity to light
* Corneal scarring

From your description, you could possibly have pink eye or maybe something is in your eye that is irritating it. Since you do have herpes, there is a chance it could be ocular herpes.  (+ info)

can keratitis damage my eye?

It happened on my vacation and i didn't went to the doctor right away, because i assumed it was conjunctivitis (which i get very often) so i started with my regular therapy, eye drops. After 4 days the situation got worse and it felt like something was inside my eye so I went to the doctor.
I got herpes simplex virus... he gave me medications and it's ok now, but it still feels like its dry and my view is not clear

Help! I have questions about recent keratitis?

A few weeks ago, my contacts were bothering me so I took them out and saw my eye doctor. He said I had the start of a corneal ulcer, and when I went in a few days later, he said I had no scarring and he couldn't see any inflammation; however, a few days later when I received my new glasses with my new prescription, I couldn't even read the bottom line of the reading test. My doctor became extremely concerned and sent me to a specialist the next day, and he gave me Besivance and omnipred and I have another appointment in a few days. At some point my first eye doctor had said it was keratitis, but I feel like the specialist didn't give me much information on what was going on. I don't have any swelling, pain, or sensitivity to light, so the only real symptom is the loss of vision. Does anyone know anything that can put my mind at ease or offer me any information? The glasses that I couldn't see out of with my new prescription now work (I can see out of the eye that I couldn't before).

there's about 30 types of "keratitis", so that actually doesnt tell us all that much. someone thinks you're at least at risk for microbial (bacterial) keratitis b/c they put you on besivance, which is a pretty much brand-new, high-dollar fluoroquinolone antibiotic. so the specialist probably diagnosed you with microbial keratitis or thinks you might have it:

Does Clear Care Solution Prevent/ Lower your Chances of Acanthamoeba keratitis?

I just saw something about a kid my age (14) going blind from Acanthamoeba keratitis, I assume he used a regular Renu solution or something, which i used to use; i just switched to Clear Care.. i almost always wear my contacts in the shower, and i always wear them at the beach (not smart, i know, but i don't go in the ocean anymore) and when i swim in my pool. Since Clear Care is a hydrogen peroxide solution, does it help prevent/ lower your chances of getting Acanthamoeba keratitis?
Please Help (:

Well, no, not really. You get infected by this by being exposed to it and it being stuck between your contact and your eye, so taking a shower and swimming in them in any circumstance makes your chances higher, not really the solution you use to disinfect them. there have been some solutions in the past that have been suspect of not killing this little guy all that well, and they are no longer on the market.

There are several easy ways to greatly reduce the chance of getting this sight-threatening condition — and, in fact, any type of eye infection:

Follow your eye doctor's recommendations regarding care of your contact lenses. Use only products that he or she recommends.
Never use tap water with your contact lenses. Do not swim, shower or use a hot tub while wearing them. If you do decide to wear your lenses while swimming, wear airtight swim goggles and afterward dispose of the lenses immediately.
Be sure to soak your lenses in fresh disinfecting solution every night. Don't use a wetting solution or saline solution that isn't intended for disinfection.
Always wash your hands before handling your lenses.
Unless you are wearing disposable contact lenses that are replaced daily, always clean the lenses upon removal, or at a minimum, rub the lenses with your multipurpose solution and rinse the solution off of the lens.

fungal keratitis?

what are the symptoms? is it possible to have fungal without any noticeable signs? how long does it take to develop into incurable?
thanks!
personal experience greatly appreciated
----------

The above answer was quite thorough. Let me address some of your questions specifically. What are the symptoms. The symptoms of fungal keratitis are generally the same as any other type keratitis. Pain, photophobia (sensitivity to light), blurred vision if in the optical axis, irritation, foreign body sensation. Is it possible to have a fungal infection without noticeable signs. No. A sign is something a doctor can see upon examination. All fungal keratisis's will have observable signs such as opacification of the affected area, edema of the affected area, anterior chamber reaction such a inflammatory cells or flare, scleritis, necrosis of tissue, etc. If caught early enough to be confined solely to the cornea itself, the infection is much more easily treatable. If the fungus gains access to the interior structures of the eyes then goals must be adjusted many times to being considered successful if the eye itself is saved irrespective of whether good vision is maintained. Hope this helped.  (+ info)
