My fiance has X-linked recessive ichthyosis does this mean I could now carry the condition?

Obviously I mean is it sexually transmitted, or does he just carry it and it would be passed down to our children? I know it is passed down through the females, but I don't know much more.
----------

No you won't get it. However, if you have the recessive gene as well, you run the risk of having children with the disease.  (+ info)

Why are people born with Harlequin type ichthyosis disease born with red eyes?

and can they see through them?
----------

It is a rare genetic skin disorder. The trait is thought to be autosomal recessive; ie, the defect is on a non-sex chromosome, and the condition will only manifest if both parents contribute this defective gene.

The red eyes, you are thinking of harlequin ichthyosis foetalis
Because the foetus's eyes are highly susceptible to trauma, they often bleed upon birth, thus giving them the bulbous red-eye appearance. Their eyes need to be continually protected using ophthalmic lubricants

The babies can see and with modern medicine many have made it into adulthood.  (+ info)

is there a way to prevent harlequin ichthyosis before it occurs?

or a way to reduce the chance..? thanks.
----------

no there is no way to really prevent it, its really really extremely rare condition and "before it occurs" you can only be born with it not develop it later in life, it may be hereditary but still its rare,

im not sure you know what Harlequin Ichthyosis, and i really dont think you have it because you would know this answers by now if you did,

but if you scared of getting this disease, like i said you can only be born with it and if somebody has it you can instantly tell they do by their appearance, there is no "when will i get it" its like being born without an arm, same with harlequin ichthyosis, your born with the deformity at birth
