How could shoes fracture a hip?

What is the science behind that?

My Shape Ups have been the most comfortable shoes I've owned. I'll stop wearing them if it's true but I have to understand how that's even possible.
It's a class action lawsuit. It's obviously not something someone just made up. But I have no idea how that could happen. Yes your balance is a little different when you wear the shoes but that's why you learn to walk properly in them.
----------

The shoes force you to walk differently, and by walking in this new way, it places more pressure on the hip muscles and hip bones (causing the shaping up of your buttocks). By doing so, some folks with weaker hip bones, have fractured theirs.  (+ info)

How do I know if someone fractured (or possibly broken) their hip bone, knee, and colar bone?

Long story this morning with the stairs, but I don't have anything I can do to help and hi refuses to go to the doctor (even through all the screaming and crying that went on) and is just laying there and can't move. Is it normal if their skin turns purple and is swollen to the touch, and makes cracking noises, and has alot of pain? Or would that just be bad bruises? But I can tell the pain is much more severe.
There's nothing else that I can do!

You won't know for sure unless they get an x-ray.They seriously need to go to the hospital & seek treatment.  (+ info)

I have a question about a fractured hip?

What do doctors do for a fractured hip? My uncle slipped and fell and I just found out that he has a fractured hip. I wonder will have to do surgery or put him in a cast or what?
----------

A fractured his is actually a very high fracture of the femur. Osteoperosis is the underlying cause. Surgery is often used. This will depend on the patient's condition.

One thing you need to know is that patients often die within a year of suffering a broken hip. Embolism and blood clots happening post injury are one reason for this. Basically the family needs to make sure he gets the best care including frequent turning to avoid bedsores.  (+ info)

How can I tell the difference between a hip fracture and a pulled groin, ongoing pain for 2 months.?

Painful to walk, roll over in bed, stretching, and getting in and out of the car.
----------

It would be difficult for you to determine the cause of your pain. But a doctor could order an x-ray which would go a long way toward clearing up the mystery.  (+ info)

I have avascular necrosis of hip and today i fell on that hip could i have fractured it?

I'm in a lot of pain and cannot walk very good.
----------

Avascular necrosis causes the hip portion of the leg bone (femur) to be weaker than normal.

Even a normal-strength hip can fracture after a fall (depending on how bad the all is, how strong the muscles in that area are, whether the person has osteoporosis/osteopenia, etc).

So unfortunately, you will need to see a doctor and have tests done (like x-rays or even a CT scan) to find out if you fractured anything in your hip area.

Good luck!  (+ info)

What is a pathophysiology of a hip fracture?

I am having the hardest time doing pathos. thanks for the help
----------

It can be due to osteoporosis which causes weakened bones which can fracture easily. Trauma (car accident, fall etc.) is also a cause of hip fracture. Avascular necrosis (loss of blood supply to the femur) can lead to fracture as well.   (+ info)

Stress Fracture of the Growth Plate in My Hip?

I'm a fifteen year old female who runs. Approximately 16 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a stress fracture in one of the growth plates in my hips. I'm not sure what the growth plate is called, but if I saw the name I'd recognize it. I might have to have surgery soon & I want to know what's going to be done. Could anyone tell me the names of all the growth plates of the hip?
----------

There is no specific name other than epiphyseal plates. It may be expanded by the location of the plate, such as the capital femoral epiphysis.  (+ info)

Why is it bad when elderly people fracture their hip?

My grandma just fell and broke her hip. I always heard its very bad when this happens to an elderly person and that this may cause their health to decline rapidly. Im just wondering why this occurs? Lack of mobility, complications???
----------

First, sorry to hear about your grandmother's misfortunate accident.

Second, the main problem is lack of mobility. People are supposed to move! We have to move to keep healthy. Once we stop moving, we lose strength and become further immobile. Immobility can lead to Pneumonia, Clots, and Skin Breakdown which can lead to Bed Sores. Its important that after she gets treatment for the fracture that she begins to move again as instructed by her doctor.

Good luck to her and you,
Nurse Angie, RN  (+ info)
