What is the best treatment for the fracture of the hip?

The pacient has congenit luxation of the hip.
----------

Fracture is a broken bone, repaired with pins or hip nailing.

Congenital subluxation of the hip is a condition in which the hip is easily dislocated, and should be treated by an pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Depending on the severity of the subluxation, it may require bracing, or surgery, but that is a decision best left to the doctor trained to treat the problem. Failure to treat it may lead to chronic problems later in life.  (+ info)

Is the cold numbing and severe pain I have in my left hip a sign of somekind of fracture?

I am in severe pain but with this I have a cold numb feeling down my left hip and leg? Would a xray show if it were a mild fracture.
----------

sciatica. lay down with the affected side up, take ibuprophen, and use ice packs. do not sit down as this may aggravate it. i am speaking from experience. i spent about 3 weeks in pain and got this course of treatment from an anesthisiologist that i know. it did help.  (+ info)

How involved is the surgery and recovery for a broken hip?

My 86 year old grandmother had a fall last night and broke her left hip. I'm not sure which kind of fracture it is, but I've read that both kinds require surgery. Are these considered major surgeries? What is the recovery like for them? She has already gone through major open heart surgery just a few years ago with a very difficult recovery. I don't want to see her go through something like that again. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

When I was 50 I fell off a kitchen chair while I was cleaning off the top of the refrigerator.I fell about 4 feet and landed on my right hip.I totally knocked the wind out of me.I ended up going to the ER and having it x-rayed.It showed I broke my hip. They felt I was to young for a new hip and didn't want to give it to me,so they stuck 3 titanium screws in it to hold it in place.Older people have a harder time because their bodies don't repair themselves as they did when they were young. After they repair a hip,the first thing that they do,is make you get out of bed and start you walking on walker. This is so you don't get any blot clots forming. They also put me on a medication called cummindon,it's a blood thinner to prevent clots from forming which can be very dangerous. The side effect of this is that your always cold.In addition they give you a morphine pump. It's painful,I was in the hospital for 5 days. After wards, they had me have a visiting nurse stop by my home weekly, they also had a physical therapist come too, about 3 times a week. They give you exercises that you have to do to make a come back.It wasn't easy,it took me a couple months,at that was at the age of 50,Your grandma has a long road ahead,to be honest, some older people don't really make a come back. They either end up staying on walker or even a wheel chair. When you get older especially in women, your bones get thinner and brittle refered to as osteoporosis. It depends on the break your grandma had, sometimes they repair the ball and socket or sometimes they put in the screws like I have.At any rate,I hope this helps you.  (+ info)

I reckon I got a fractured hip from slipping and falling at work?

Should I apply for Worker's Compensation?
----------

yes, when you go to a doc, have them give you a form to fill out. Otherwise you can get one from your employer. Just remember you have to report it at work as soon as possible if you haven't already.  (+ info)

Why do people die after a hip fracture?

It seems like a lot of elderly people who fall and break their hip die shortly afterwards. Why?
----------

It's pnuemonia. When the hip is broken they have to lie still and wait for it to heal. Lying around lets fluid collect in their lungs, then they get pnuemonia and die. That's what happened to my grandfather.

More rarely, a severe break can cause a blood clot to form near the break that can come loose and cause a stroke - which happened to a friend's father.  (+ info)

Did I fracture or sprain my hip, or is it a spinal compression fracture?

I was in a close call on my motorcycle, and used my leg to pivot my bike to avoid a car. For a week I had minor pain in my leg. I felt great for a couple of months, but in the last week, I have had severe pain sitting, and getting up from the seated possition. The pain starts at my hip and shoots towards my foot on the outside of my leg. I have full range of motion after getting up and moving.

Sounds like your sciatic nerve eh!

When I cough the back of my left hip hurts, what the heck?

It hurts at other times too like laying in certain positions. When I was in high school I had a stress fracture in my right hip from running track, it doesn't hurt as badly as that did but it's definitely enough to get my attention. What's going on?
----------

It might be pressure on your sciatic nerve, which is perhaps becoming worse as you move when you cough.  (+ info)

how do i distinguish a hip fracture from a pulled groin muscle?

I am a distance runner - symptoms came on over 3 week period of increasing distances and speed.
I have had it Xrayed. The problem is that a stress fracture is very difficult to see on plain film. I am looking for a symptom or sign that would help diffentiate the two.
----------

x-ray is the only way to be sure.... but if the symptoms come on over a period of time then im thinking that it may be a pulled muscle

make an appointment to have it checked out and to get x-rays  (+ info)

Could i have a minor hip fracture or does it sound like somethin else?

For months now my left side of my hip has been giving me problems. At first it would only hurt if i moved around a certain way or squat down, basically anything other than walking in slow strides. Now it hurts me daily especiall when exercising, walking, and bending. Its like in the lower left/middle hip bone on my back. like if you were to put your hands at your hips where your thumb is on your back, thats exactly where it is on my left side.

There are many possible causes of pain like you are describing. A hip fracture without serious trauma or advanced Osteoporosis is unlikely (and generally does not cause pain in the area you are describing).

Likely causes of your pain include:

Sacroiliac Joint Syndrome

Facet Joint Syndrome in the lumbar spine

Myofascial Pain Syndrome affecting a variety of lumbar spine and/or gluteal muscles

Piriformis Syndrome

A congenital Hemipelvis

Short leg syndrome.

A thorough evaluation by your family Chiropractor may be wise.

Best wishes and good luck.  (+ info)
