So can i get tested for herpes simplex even if you have'nt had an outbreak in a long time?

So can i get tested for herpes simplex even if you have'nt had an outbreak in a long time?
----------

Sure. A person can be tested for herpes by a blood test if they aren't currently having an outbreak.

Herpes is for life though. So, if you have been previously diagnosed with it, even if you haven't had an outbreak for a while, you still have the virus. There is no cure for herpes.

Can i practice medicine if im positive for Herpes Simplex?

Ive had it all my life, will it be a hindrance when i practice medicine? Will they even make me proceed if i tell them i have herpes simplex? Will i be a health scare?
----------

That shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep it under control. Most people have Herpes Simplex type 1. A cold sore is herpes simplex.

If I have Herpes Simplex type I in my bloodstream, will my wife repeatedly get cold sores from oral sex?

First of all I'm going to get tested. But my wife got cold sores (I think they were cold sores) after giving me oral sex. If I am positive for Herpes Simplex Type I which is only cold sores, does that mean she will get cold sores everytime she gives me oral sex? What do couples do when one person has Herpes Simplex Type I in their bloodstream? Thanks everyone.
----------

Herpes simplex virus type I is transmitted by oral and respiratory secretions, affects the skin and mucous membranes and commonly produces cold sores or fever blisters.

So always use condom.Consult a doctor while symptoms are still present.Although there is no cure, there are measures that can be taken to reduce manifestations.

Can you catch herpes simplex 2 from receiving oral intercourse from someone who has a sore on their mouth from?

Can u catch herpes simplex 2 vaginally from having oral intercourse with a person that has a sore on their mouth caused by herpes simplex 1?
----------

Cold sores are caused by oral herpes, they are very contagious during an out break and can be passed to the genitals during oral sex. You would not get HSV2 but HSV1 on the genitals. But any type of herpes that occurs on the genitals gets called "genital herpes".
I contracted herpes that way so it's totally possible.  (+ info)

I have a rash on my forehead between my eyes and on my nose. Is that a typical symptom of herpes simplex?

I think I may have recently gotten herpes simplex and if I did this is my first outbreak. But I have a rash on my forehead and on my nose along with on my lips. Is that normal for herpes simplex or could it be something else?
----------

It's possible but that is not a common place to have herpes, it doesn't like to occur from wet places of the body. Oral herpes usually causes cold sores around the mouth or on the lips. It could be just acne or some thing irritated that area. Herpes can present itself as a rash but there may also be some painful itching, burning and or tingling symptoms under the skin of the rash.
If you need to know then have a doctor or dermatologist test the rash for herpes.  (+ info)

What is the difference between herpes simplex virus 1 and 2?

I have a fever blister and i have been getting them most of my life. Does it mean i have been infected with herpes?
----------

Herpes simplex 1 and 2 are two different herpes viruses. Either virus is able to cause oral OR genital herpes.

Herpes is a skin infection and is localised, it is not carried in your blood. So when you catch it in that place, it stays in that place.

You have oral herpes. It DOES mean you have herpes (probably the virus hsv-1), but on your mouth, NOT your genitals.

Oral herpes is usually caught as a child, from a kiss from an infected adult.

If you have oral herpes on your mouth, your genitals will never be infectious, but you can give someone else genital herpes if you perform oral sex on them. The risk is highest when you have a fever blister, but it can also happen when you have no fever blister, so you should inform partners that you get them.  (+ info)

How do I ease the pain of herpes simplex type one?

I have herpes type 1. I have only had one outbreak but now I am getting them on my finger. Its very sore and painful. How can i make the pain subside even a little bit? Please help me.
----------

dont touch them, whenever you have a outbreak like try not to touch it or it will spread to all parts of you body. For the pain use hydrocortisone cream it relieves it alot, and when u can put hydrogen peroxide on the infected area and wait till it starts to bubble. This helps clean it out and it heals alot quicker  (+ info)

Are ALL fever blisters caused by herpes simplex I ?

I get a very small, warm fever blister on my top lip right at the edge of where my skin starts.

They occur a couple of times a year and always in the same spot.

It is always a quite small (barely noticeable) red bump.

It never scabs over like other people's herpes i've seen...

Is it herpes simplex I or something else?
----------

It could be herpes simplex 1 (95% are caused by hsv-1) or herpes simplex 2 (causes 3-5% of cold sores).

But a cold sore is DEFINITELY caused by one of the two herpes viruses - it is an outbreak of herpes. There is no other form of cold sore.

As to the symptoms, well they vary in severity from person to person. Yes, many people get big ones that scab, but my boyfriend gets ones just like you, it never blisters just causes a small red bump, which can tingles beforehand and sometimes be a bit tender or itch. But it never scabs and is barely noticeable. Just be glad you have it mildly.

And to the other answerer who thought you can get them spontaneously from sunburn or the flu... you can't!! The reason you get them when you have the flu is because your immune system normally keeps the herpes virus under control, but when you have flu your immune system is low so the virus can surface. Think about the names we give oral herpes - cold sores, fever blisters... could it be we call them those things becasue you tend to get outbreask when you have a codl or fever?? And sunburn irritates the skin which can trigger an outbreak of the virus already present in your system.  (+ info)

Can Herpes Simplex 1 be spread to my genitals?

I think I may have oral herpes... Can it be spread to my genitals? I've read posts that say the body builds antibodies and will not allow it to spread to the genitals if it is already on the mouth. Is this true?
----------

It is unlikely, but rarely it can happen. You can potentially spread the virus by touching a genital herpes sore and then another part of your body, which is called autoinoculation. This is particularly true during a primary initial outbreak (the first outbreak of genital herpes in people who have never been exposed to the herpes virus before). In general, autoinoculation is very uncommon after the primary initial outbreak, because your immune system has been established against herpes simplex.

For some reason, while most people do seem to build up an immunity to catching it again, some people don't to the same extent. The vast majority of us will not spread an hsv-1 infection to a second site after we have had the virus for a few months and after our primary outbreak, but a rare few people still do. Therefore it is a good idea to still be careful about what you touch after you have touched your cold sore :-)

Of all the people with genital and oral herpes of the same type that I have seen on the net, none of them caught the second infection more than 3 or 4 months after they had acquired their oral herpes infection or vice versa. The vast majority of people who have the same virus in both places caught both infections at the same time or while they were experiencing their primary outbreak.

It is rare enough for the UK Herpes Viruses Association to give the following advice:

..."If you and your partner have the same virus you will not reinfect each other - even on a different part of the body. So, if you have caught it on your genital from your partner’s facial cold sores, he or she will not catch the virus back on the genitals."  (+ info)
