How do i get rid of this hematoma?

I had blunt trama to the outside of my thigh 8 months ago. It bruised and swelled with a lot of fluid. It is still discolored and has a significant amount of fluid under the skin. The fluid is in an 4inch by 2inch area. Do i need to get it drained or will it go away on its own? Should I massage it or put hot compresson it? Whatabout water pillsor arnica. It is numb in the immediete area. Thanks for your advice
----------

Hematomas do not go away on their own. It needs to be drained. I strongly advise you do not try and drain it yourself due to the high risk of causing further damage and/or getting an infection. None of the things you listed will heal the hematoma. Hot compresses might help restore feeling to the area, but your best bet is to go to a doctor and have it drained.  (+ info)

subdural hematoma possible after head injury one year later?

Hello
Anyone know if you can have a subdural hematoma for years and not know?? I fell and hit my head on ice really hard about a year ago and started thinking that since i get headaches all the time.
----------

It is I would imagine within the realm of possibility. However, after all this time I would tend to think it is not likely. None the less, since you are concerned enough to ask te question here, I would suggest you see your health care provider. If nothing else for peace of mind. Was the initial injury severe enough for you to seek medical care at that time? If so take a copy of those records with you. Either way, give the provider all the information you can. Even if it seems irrelevant. let the provider make that decision.
I hope this has helped, good luck and I hope you feel better.  (+ info)

Hematoma after 6 mos from stereotactic biopsy?

Had stereotactic biopsy 6 mos ago. Went for followup mammo and a small hematoma at the site where the clip was insterted is still there. How long does it take to dissolve? Dr. has ordered an ultrasound.
----------

It shouldn’t take longer than it would on any other part of the body, unless you accidentally hit it or something. 6 months is a long time.  (+ info)

How do i get rid of my hematoma located on my forhead?

Ive had a hematoma for over three weeks now.....Its located on my forehead ive went to the doctor and they refuse to perform surgery or have it drained....they keep telling me to let it heal naturally but im getting tired of this egg on my head...how do i speed up the process???
----------

Rub it, rub it, rub it.

Basically, you've got a scab under the skin and muscle. Now that the original injury is healed, you need to break up the clot. Whenever you think of it, rub it firmly both in the center where the clot is, and around the edges. You'll break the clot up, and bring blood to the area to carry it away.

You don't need to apply a lot of pressure or rub it for a long time (you don't want to re injure it). Just rub it often.

It will take as long as a month to disperse completely.  (+ info)

Any stories about getting a subchorionic Hematoma?

Hi, I'm 14 weeks and last week I started bleeding bright red blood. Went in for an ultrasound and they found a moderate sized clot that was attached to my placenta. The baby is just fine and is very active. I bled for 3 days and now it has stopped. They told me that if I start bleeding again, there could be problems. Just need advice from someone who knows about this (only) and if their are any stories good or bad. Thanks.
----------

I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow (or Friday) depending on which doctor you ask. I have the same diagnosis. I bled at 10w4d. There is a great yahoo group of women with this diagnosis, and I highly recommend joining it. It will answer many of your questions and it will help you think of questions to ask your doctor. It's http://groups.yahoo.com/group/schgroup. The best think you can do is to relax and take it easy. Did your doctor tell you no exercise, no heavy lifting, no sex? That seems to be the general advice for all women in the US on the yahoo group.  (+ info)

How long should a shin hematoma in an 11 y.o. take to heal?

Daughter ran into a wood tie at school with her shin about 10 weeks ago and when she came home, I put peroxide on the wound & antibiotic cream. She noticed a bump underneath that is hard and not going away and some of the sore is still there. How long should it take for the hematoma to go away?
----------

Her injury is not a hematoma. A hematoma is a bruise. I had a hard bump on my arm from an airbag deploying. It cleared up within two weeks and is now just a scar. It all depends on the severity of the injury. I recommend you take her to see her doctor anyway, since it is taking so long to heal.  (+ info)

How do you treat a hematoma?

I was clearning the bathroom the a few days ago and smashed my shin on the low divider between the shower and the main bathroom area. It hurt but didn't bother me after a while. The past two days however, I noticed a slight soreness in the area and a slight discoloration. Today, there's a particularly painful lump where I hit my shin. Should I be worried? How do I treat this?
Do you still use ice if the actual injury happened a few days back?
----------

Usually you treat a hematoma with ice. NOT heat, since heat draws more blood to the surface of the skin. Ice it and also take some ibuprofen for the pain and swelling.  (+ info)
