Glioblastoma Mulitforme?

I recently was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Mulitforme due to my frequent headaches. Its a malignant tumor in your brain.I was wondering if any of you have more info on this, or know anyone who has it.
----------

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is a high grade glioma which is an aggressive type of brain tumor. It maybe diagnosed by MRI based on its characteristic appearance on scans, but requires tissue biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Tissue pathology can yield data in the prognosis of the disease, and studies have shown that a gross total resection may be important in the treatment of this disease, especially when patients develop symptoms that require immediate intervention.

Treatment of GBMs will generally involve radiation therapy to the brain, and chemotherapy as an adjuvant therapy has been shown to improve outcome and survival. A multi-disciplinary approach to treatment including neurosurgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology is important in achieving the best possible outcome. Good luck!  (+ info)

Glioblastoma multiforme?

Hi. Can anybody tell me which is the best medical institute for treatment of Glioblastoma multiforme? One of my friend has been diagnosed and doctors say perhaps she is not going to make it for more than 3 years, even after chemo and radiotherapy. Kindly advice. Thank you very much.
----------

I live in NJ and when my gfather was oddly diagnosed with one they wanted to send him to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (aka HUP). He opted out of treatment of any type because of his age.  (+ info)

how can we cure glioblastoma multiforme tumours? (brain tumours)?

I need to know how they cure them like via drugs, chemo, virus etc...
----------

Gbm is the most aggressive form of brain tumors. They grow back, but with the treatments and drugs now days you have a better chance of living much longer than just a few years ago. Many times, when you have a brain tumor even though you get all the treatments, it will eventually grow back gbm. Gbm is pure astrocytoma cells, always grade 4. I had a mixed cell tumor called oligoastrocytoma grade 3. I'm afraid when mine grows back, it will be pure astrocytoma cells.  (+ info)

what time would you have left with glioblastoma?

Prognosis
The median survival time from the time of diagnosis without any treatment is 3 months. Increasing age (> 60 years of age) carries a worse prognostic risk. Death is usually due to cerebral edema or increased intracranial pressure. One in twenty of glioblastoma patients survive for more than three years, and approximately one in 5,000 glioblastoma patients survive for decades.

For more information type glioblastoma prognosis into a search engine.

is there a cure for a brain tumour (glioblastoma multiform)?

my husband was told in september he had this terrible disease. is there anybody out there who is going through the same thing or who has been through this.
any help would be gratefully accepted.
----------

My sympathy goes out to both you and your husband.
Hopefully one day one day all cancers will be a thing of the past.
I guess he is getting the normal tratment for cancer, ie radiotherapy and chemotherapy but some brain tumors need surgury sooner or later.
Hopefully. his cancer was detected early and can be treated as best it can.
Although I think alternative medicine has its place, I don't believe it can help as much as traditional medecine when it comes to cancer.  (+ info)

Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumors?

My husband has two glioblastome mutiforme brain tumors. He saw recently on TV the news of a virus therapy that is being used in China. I can not find any information on the Internet. He said that it is a cure. Right now he is taking radiation and Temodar.
----------

He may be referencing the adenovirus (H101 and Onyx-15) which is being marketed by Shanghai Sunway Biotech in China. The live virus works in theory by selectively killing cancer cells. Research for the virus started in the US and was abandoned when a Pennsylvania Teen died after using the virus therapy. However, there is still ongoing research into using virus therapy . . I believe they are still in Clinical Trials here.

http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/reprint/jnci%3b98/5/298.pdf

According to the article the virus therapy will be marketed for head and neck cancers and they will be trying the Onyx-15 for lung cancer.

I have found some articles also that indicate using Adenoviral Therapy for Glioblastoma Multiforme. I would suggest doing some research using your cancer center or hospital medical library:

Oncolytic Adenoviral Therapy for Glioblastoma Multiforme
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/540633

Entrez MedMed has a number of articles on adenoviral therapy.

Looks like there is a Clinical Trial too (no longer recruiting):

Good luck.  (+ info)

my son has been diagnosed with glioblastoma? please answer.?

hi, my son is almost 11 was diagnosed with this decease in september this year, what i want to know is why do some children survive this and live cancer free After treatment and some die, why do some people die and some don't, i just dont understand if there all on the same treatment.. thanks..
----------

The chemistry in every person's body is slightly different and thus, the effectiveness of chemotherapy is often dependent upon this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. If doctors had the answers to your questions, no children would die.  (+ info)

Where can I find out what quatlity of nuero oncology service is supplied at a given hospital?

I want to find some list ranking hospitals' oncology departements. Specifically nuero oncology/radiation. The two main hospitals I am looking at in my area are Sylvester Cancer Clinic vs. Memorial West. Memorial is much closer but I believe Sylvester may be better. How can I find out information on each hospital? PS this is for post surgical treatment of glioblastoma.
----------

Google Search Top surgeons in that field.
Generally top surgeons are affiliated with top hospitals.

Hospitals have their own business secrets therefore you will not be able to get all the data that you want.  (+ info)

Is a healthy diet important after being diagnosed with cancer?

I'm researching for an essay. If you were diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive type of primary brain tumor, would a doctor say it's imperative to eat healthy? Especially if you are going through treatment?
----------

It is always wise to eat well, in sickness or in health. Treatments often make it difficult, and in some cases nutrition may not make much difference in the outcome.
One might argue that if the patient is not doing well, and will likely not live long...and all they want to do is eat cookies and ice cream who are we to force them to eat broccoli  (+ info)
