Can you get carbon monoxide poisoning from an electric heater or only gas?

We have electric central air and heat and I need to know if carbon monoxide poisoning applies only to gas heaters or if electric heaters are at risk too.
----------

Carbon Monoxide is only produced by gas. Not electric. Do you have a gas line some where else in your house. Like a stove, fire place, water heater. If so, they can produce Carbon Monoxide. If your house is all electric, you don't have anything to worry about unless you park your car in the garage with the garage door shut and the car running. lol  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of gas poisoning?

We have these gas heaters at school because the boiler's broken and today in lesson they stank the whole room out with his hot, warm, gas smell. I stood next to heater and it absolutely reaked. I was only in the room for about 10 minutes and our principal even came into the room. This was at 9 o clock this morning so nearly 12 hours ago and i feel really tired and have a headache, could i have some form of poisoning? I am currently recovering from flu and have a cough which has given me the headache it think...Surely something would have happened to me before now?
----------

The gas heaters were running on propane gas I suppose - but that's just a guess. I assume you don't know what type of gas it was?

Here's the reaction to propane gas anyway:

ACUTE EXPOSURE
Inhalation may produce rapid breathing, headache, dizziness, visual disturbances, muscular weakness, tremors, depending upon concentration and duration of exposure because of altered pH-balance in the body.

Most gases smell and irritate so that someone acts upon exposure. The acute reactions are acute reactions and it calms down after a while. Usually, for short exposure it's enough with fresh air.

If difficulties persist, contact a physician for treatment

Does household gas still kill, was told the formula had changed to prevent fumes and poisoning?

A friend told me that the fumes of an unlit gas fire coudl kill but am sure I heard that it had been changed so that they added a smell and it could no longer kill unless sparked by a light switch or something.
Thank you everyone who's answered. I will take advice to get a sensor and get mine checked regularly as well as my chimney swept as it's a back boiler and heard a birds nest can cause a blockage. Thanks again.

Trust me it will kill you dead very quickly. and even quicker if you use a match to look for the leak  (+ info)

Does anyone know the symptoms of natural gas poisoning?

We had a leak in the condo next to ours a few weeks ago and I was wondering if there was any long term effects? My dog lost her voice the day after and has yet to bark normally. Does anyone know is this could be the culprit, or if the gas could have effected us and we could not know yet?
----------

Natural gas poisoning has the same symptoms as carbon monoxide poisoing:
headache
dizziness
nausea
vision issues
hearing problems
weakness
drowsiness
symptoms like you have the flu

No, if the gas affected you, you would know by now. The dog would have experienced the same symptoms...particularly the weakness making him/her unsteady on his/her feet. I don't know why it would affect his/her bark unless the fumes irritated his/her voice box. I would have the dog checked as it may or may not be related. I suspect it is unrelated since this happened weeks ago. I think it is time for a visit to the vet.  (+ info)

How can tell if stomach pains are gas, touch of food poisoning or something else?

I have a painful bubbling gas in my stomache and have had it for 3 days now and it won't go away. At first I thought it was just gas but now I'm wondering if I might have a touch of food posing or something like the stomache flu. These pains have kept me up for 2 nights now, I am so tired, I can't do anything with out doubling over from the pain. I have tried to eat but I just can't. When I drink coke, sprite, or something that makes me burp it feels somewhat better but not completely better. I do not have medical insurace and I don't have the money to go to the doctor so, if there is anyone out there that has any suggestions on what I should do please let me know.

Your best bet would be to call Nurse on line. Check WebMD for reliable info  (+ info)

can you get carbon monoxide poisoning from driving around with low gas?

i just got back from driving around and i felt a warm air in the car and rolled down both my windows and then i felt nauseated and light headed? should i tell someone or am i overreacting?
i only drove around for like 10 mins.
and now i feel kinda tired like im about to pass out
----------

Low gas has nothing to do with carbon monoxide. You might want to get your exhaust system checked. But if you rolled your windows down it's very unlikely that the cause of your symptoms is from CO poisoning.  (+ info)

can you get carbon monoxide poisoning from trying to fix a gas water heater?

when fixing our gas water heater my dad inhaled alot of gas. he then felt really dizzy and got a really bad headache. is it anything serious?
----------

It's not carbon monoxide poisoning because you can't smell carbon monoxide and oftentimes the effects aren't instant. It might be too much natural gas inhalation and to be on the safe side take him to the hospital and see what they say but I assure you that it's probably not carbon monoxide.  (+ info)

how do you know if you have gas poisoning?

there's a gas heater in our house and it was on and i was in the room for a long time and i started feeling dizzy and got a headache and i felt like i couldn't breathe and my Heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest and it felt like it was going to explode, someone told me it was gas poisoning. are they right?
----------

Any hardware or home improvement store carries carbon monoxide detectors, sometimes in combination with smoke detection. It sounds like you need to use such a device in the room where this gas heater operates. Carbon monoxide can be quite dangerous, even fatal.  (+ info)

Methane Gas and/or Carbon dioxide poisoning - can this affect muscles?

Basement office with external ventilation. Little fresh air but lots of carbon dioxide from passing vehicles. Methane gas from ancient gas boiler also in basement is checked annually and always passes inspection by Gas Board.

Worked for 12 months now 18 months ago but still muscles will not work. Is there any connection?

Quality of life eroded by this so any constructive and positive suggestions will be most welcome.
----------

Chronic Carbon dioxide intoxication can cause
From a study
Animal studies showed that chronic, low-level, CO2 exposures caused changes of the bone content of CO2, the bone content of calcium, the soft tissue content of calcium, and histological changes of the lung

So you might be getting bone pains which may be confused for muscles not working

There were no other significant associations found by searching medical literature

Acute carbon dioxide intoxication can cause death ..AS seen in Lake Nyos disaster in Cameroon  (+ info)
