What is the best course of action to get rid of contact dermatitis?

The rash looks like an irritant eczema which would normally (not always) be expected to be caused by contact with an irritant substance or organism. However, I have no idea what. Is there a way to ID these rashes to avoid their cause. No pets. Location: shins. Or could the rash be caused by a bacterial illness? Not psoriasis by appearance, which also introduces both auto-immunitiy dieseas and a skin response to a pathogen attack.
It looks like Dogger Bank Itch. Left shin above the sock level. Don't wear shorts and I avoid dogs and cats and it is recent so it has not come from the countryside and there are few insects about (hence the mystery). Got a cold virus (so I suppose it could be antibodies, toxins or something?).
Its not scabies, ringworm, flea bites, psoriasis, hand-foot-mouth disease.

Could conceivably be an unprecendented allergic reaction of a common anti-biotic?

I do not get allergies normally, ever of any kind.

I'd go to your doctor. It's most likely an infection. If it IS contact dermatitis it's your body reacting to something. An auto-immune disease is unlikely, as it would be affecting more than just your shins. New socks?

Seriously, it's probably environmental. Take a photo of it to show to your GP, or check out a Dermatology Atlas. I can recommend a good one, it might be able to help you out: http://dermatlas.med.jhmi.edu/derm/  (+ info)

I jus got diagnosed with irritant dermatitis any remedies?

the doctor told me it could be caused by shaving your pupic hair...however i had sex lasty tuesday and it started up showing up on tuesday..so who knows..hurts like hell...hopefully it will go away...any advice? or treatment?

Irritant Dermatitis is not necessarily an STD. Irritant dermatitis is by definition a skin irritation. It can be caused by shaving, scratching, allergies, mites etc. My 5 month old daughter had it on her arm - It usually doesn't require any treatment, unless it lasts for more than a week. Keep cold compresses on it, not warm, as the warmth may increase the irritation. Another home remedy is to apply some olive oil to the affected area. Above all ... don't scratch!  (+ info)

irritant dermatitis on face?

This was caused by benzoyl peroxide to my sensetive skin. I cannot see a dermatologist sooner than the 29th of september. It's really bad and i am going to have to cut a semester of school because it's all over!

It is really itchy and red spots all over that seem like acne. What can i do to help treat this?
Well i guess there are no professionals on this site

I'll use dermacort :) thanks anyways

how much did you use?

anyway, go to a local pharmacy and ask them for a zinc cream, this cream will speed up the healing process. apply a little bit for a few days. do not use it for more than 5 days. see directions.

What is "Irritant contact dermatitis"?

it is very irritating. Really though, I had it and still get it every now and then, something (we have not figured it out yet) I come into contact with during the spring and summer sets it off, and it really reminded me of poison ivy or oak. I had to get a steroid to take care of it.  (+ info)

What's the difference between Atopic Dermatitis and Contact Dermatitis?

Try to figure out whoch one i have. My so called "doctor" told me i had cellulitis, which was (excuse my language) but, total bull. I researched and looked up different rashes, and skin allergies/irritants, and turns out i have eczema. But i'm not sure if it's Atopic dermatitis or Contact dermatitis. What's the difference, cause they both kind of look the same. Help?

Atopic dermatitis is pretty general a term. Most people have a predisposition to having eczema. For some reason you will also find it quite common that people who regularly get eczema also have a variety of respiratory issues, like asthma. Eastern medicine has made this association much longer than Western medicine. Regular eczema sufferers seem to have a systemic issue and might find better relief through watching their diet, stress levels and being very cautious about what their skin comes in contact with

Contact dermatitis means your skin came in contact with something specific to cause the irritation. It's more a "situational" skin condition. This could include exposure to a variety of substances like harsh detergents or chemicals or an extreme change in environment. People who have contact dermatitis usually find relief once they realize the cause and eliminate it.  (+ info)

How do I rid of Dermatitis on my hand?

I have dermatitis on my hands, it is between my fingers and a little patch on my palm. It is very itchy and red and has what appears to be tiny fluid filled bubbles all over it which sometimes weep after a shower and get itchier. I have a cream called Graphites cream which helps stop itching and gets rid of redness but doesnt seem to get rid of it. I read that dermatitis (i havent always had dermatitis, i was born with eczema and one day had a little dry patch on my finger which turned into dermatitis) is sometimes aggravated by wheat and lactose so should i quit milk and bread for a month see if there is any difference? I'd like to know if anyone has any 'cures' or remedies i can purchase when i go shopping or something homeopathic i can make now so soothe straight away. PLEASE HELP ME!
Ha! yes in a desperate bid last night to get rid of it i put some steroid cream on it, well lets say it quickly got washed of, it BURNED!!! I also heard nickel is a common trigger its in most coins and people always carry coins
----------

I would be careful using E45 cream - I know a lot of people swear by it but I have Ezcema and it does nothing but aggravate me and makes me itch more - i agree to get something non steriod based so it does not thin the skin - try acqueous cream - you can get it without a prescription from a local pharmacy  (+ info)
