What's being done to cure deafness/hearing loss and tinnitus?

I know what causes all of those things, I just want to know, what steps are being taken to eliminate the problem, also, if there's a reliable organization I could donate money to to support their research for it.
I just wanna know, what's being done to help restore our hearing, and stop tinnitus?

What is the effect of long turn deafness on the mind in the elderly?

What? Clarify please. Are you asking the effect of long term deafness on the elderly? If someone is suffering long term deafness, they are pretty much used to it. They have learned to function in their normal lives. However, if they have only experienced hearing problems in their later years they can become depressed, agitated, lonely because they can no longer hear/communicate like they used to. At this late in life they usually have a hard time adapting the way someone in, say, their teens and twenties would.  (+ info)

Is a scared ear drum a sign of deafness?

hello there

I Just like to know some thing, and that is, i have a scared ear drum and I Like to know is that a sign of deafness, because there are times when i am in conversation I do not know on what he or she is telling me. And it is Tough on me to Pick up on words.
----------

No, if you have a badly scarred eardrum it can affect the way it works so u feel like u r deaf. If you have scarred it too much then it wont work the right way or work at all then u can be deaf but only to a certain point. Most of the time a hearing aid will help it. If you also have fluid behind a scarred eardrum it will also make it hard to hear out of that ear. Go to your doctor and tell him about wat is going on. And see if he can recommend u to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist and they will be able to perform a hearing test on you and then they can tell you what to do. I hoped I helped answering your question.  (+ info)

Is it possible to suffer almost total deafness overnight?

A friend, who has quite good hearing in one ear and partial deafness in the other says he woke this morning to almost total deafness. Nothing can be heard out of one ear and hearing from the 'good' ear has also diminished. He said it wasn't gradual but came on all of a sudden and it feels like the sensation you sometimes experience on an airplane when your ears are blocked. He has tried holding his nose and swallowing, sucking sweets and chewing gum and then to make matters worse when he called the doctor's office this evening, they can't see him until Friday! I have no idea what to suggest. He is quite scared as it came on so suddenly
----------

tell your friend to go to er if he is concerned and doesn't want to wait. personally i would go to er and see what they tell you.good luck dear!!  (+ info)
