what are the chances of my kids having a cervical rib ?

I have a cervical rib on the left side of my spinal column. Just one. Neither of my parents have one, its just me. My partner doesnt have any cervical ribs either. What are the chances of my children having cervical ribs?
----------

Cervical ribs do not appear to be inherited, so your children would have the usual chance for a random cervical rib, which is less than 1%.  (+ info)

I am trying to find a doctor who is familiar with "slipped rib syndrome"?

I have been suffereing from severe pain for a year now. I used to be a fitness trainer and now am unable to do any type of physical activity. I am also a newly wed who had hopes of starting a family 6 months ago. I am unable to find a doctor who is familiar with slipped rib syndrome (also known as rib tip syndrome, and painful rib syndrome). I am desperate for pain relief and to have my life back to normal. My life is a mess due to this. Is there anybody out there who is familiar with slipped rib syndrome?
----------

Hi, I am a 35 year old female in great physical shape. In jan 2006 I had to have an emergency gallbladder removal for stones, during the surgery the scope peirced my rt rib tissue, (10,11,12th rib) I started bleeding heavily so they applied pressure and my rib slipped. Ever since then i have been in pain, horrible pain. I understand how you feel, after going to primary care doc several times and being on lortabs for 2 months , who in fact believed my pain was my ribs (we saw it hanging in an x-ray) I still got nowhere, (the surgeon brushed off my complaints for 2 months after surgery) I finally went online and researched everything on ribs, I then called a thoracic surgeon,DO and basically begged them to help me, (he knows of the emer. surgeon and called him a pompous ass) anyhoo, this thoracic surgeon hooked me up with a pain guy who performed trigger point injections in my ribs-OUCH, I had it done may 06 and the relief lasted about 1.5 months, cost my ins. co $700.00 and $100.00 to me. Well my point is - this sucks and my pain is back, when I cough, turn over, turn wrong, it hurts no rhyme or reason. the thoracic surgeon said I can have a rib reduction done, 5 in cut, remove tips of 10,11,12th ribs. Hmmm, not sure I want to, scary.
My point is, SEE A THORACIC SURGEON!!! I hope you get better soon, I have 3 children and they are so fun and amazing, God bless you and yours, Susan  (+ info)

I was hit by automobile and suffer from cervical syndrome and lumbar radioculopathy.?

No surgery due to narrow margin to do a surgery/ have to live with nerve damange. Working liminted duty for last 3 1/2 yrs. What amount of settlement should I recieve.
----------

There is no set amount for settlement.
That depends on your total medical bill, the nature of the accident and degree of neglegence of the other party, what the lawyers bill will be and your disability.
Have you been to a good chiropractor? Car accidents can have long term consequences, but there's no reason a person should usually totally get over them if seeing the right person.
Email me if you want. I live in Holland now but still know people in the US.  (+ info)

I have an appointment to see a specialist but just wanted to see if anyone else has the same condition. How do I ask a doctor about slipping rib syndrome. I think I have it.?

I have always had it. I am 35 and as long as I can remember I have had a discomfort and movement of that area. It doesnt hurt but is annoying like someone is always rubbing against you in one spot. Does prolonactiv thing work. Do I see a chiropractor. How do I approach a doctor about it. I never go to the doctor and I don't have insurance but I am sick and tired of the discomfort.

What is a small leftsided cervical rib?

Just wondering what this is , it showed up on a Xray that I just had that was accompanied by a MRI, that found a bulging cervical disc in the C5/6.
----------

It's just a tiny extra rib on the left side near your neck. Nothing to worry about. People have extra ribs and extra vertebrae (6 lumbar instead of 5).  (+ info)

What is the quickest treatment for Cervical Rib?

Cervical rib: A supernumerary (extra) rib which arises from the seventh cervical vertebra. It is located above the normal first rib. A cervical rib is present in only about 1 in 200 (0.5%) of people. It may cause nerve and artery problems.

There are normally 12 pairs of ribs in all. Each pair of ribs is attached to the building blocks of the spine (the vertebrae) in the back. The 12 normal pairs of ribs consist of:

True ribs: The first seven ribs attach to the sternum (the breast bone) in the front and are known as true (or sternal) ribs.
False ribs: The lower five ribs do not directly connect to the sternum and are known as false ribs.
The presence of a cervical rib means the individual has 13 ribs: 1 cervical rib + 7 true ribs + 5 false ribs = 13 ribs.
