How do doctors heal carbon monoxide poisoning?

Do doctors keep patients in hospitals overnight? If so, for about how long? Or do they just take a pill for a period of time? Thanks, 10 points to the best answer.
----------

By giving oxygen, so yes, it would mean you'd have to be kept at the hospital.

In carbon monoxide poisoning, haemoglobin in the blood, which usually carries oxygen, picks up carbon monoxide instead, inhibiting the transfer of oxygen to your body tissues. Oxygen helps push the carbon monoxide out of the blood.  (+ info)

What are symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning?

I work outside and there are a lot of crew vans we get transported around in. We are in them most of the night. Maybe even a total of 2 or 3 hours. The thing is, underneath our van where the tailpipe meets the catalytic converter it is disconnected. So the exhaust is being pushed up through the holes in the floorboard of the van. Very potent smell. How much is too much to breath in? What are the symptoms? Thanks in advance.
----------

The scary part is that the symptoms are largely unnoticed, a big reason why it is so dangerous. You inhale the Carbon Monoxide, which binds to the hemoglobin in the Red Blood Cells, preventing them from binding to oxygen. You don't feel like your suffering, but you are slowly suffocating. You'll feel a little tired and confused, and then you'll just pass out.  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning?

My children and I have been feeling a little ill and can't figure out why. I am currently unemployed and at home most of the day, and have been feeling the worst.
----------

You don't get sick with carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon Monoxide is a tasteless, odorless and colorless gas. This gas is a silent killer.
Symptoms are:
Lightheaded
Sleepy
Respiratory Irritation
Difficulty in focusing (eyes)
Get out the house when this occurs.  (+ info)

How long would it take to die from carbon monoxide poisoning?

My best friend committed suicide by sitting in his garage with the car running and the windows down. I was just wonder how long would it take before someone actually dies. Thanx
----------

I am so sorry to hear about your friend.

It depends on the size of the garage. Carbon monoxide levels are measure in parts per million. Breathing in only two hundred parts per million of carbon monoxide will cause the first signs of poisoning. This will happen after a two to three hour period of breathing in this small amount of gas. Twelve thousand parts per million of carbon monoxide will cause death in one to three minutes. Without knowing the measurement of carbon monoxide in the garage at the time of discovery, the amount of time it took cannot be predicted.  (+ info)

can I get carbon monoxide poisoning from sitting in a parking garage that has ventilation?

Odd Question:

Today I was sitting in a parking garage for about an hour because my mom had an appointment in the hospital and I didn't feel like getting out of the car but the parking garage didn't have side walls so there was some ventiliation but I began to feel kind of tired and I smell some of the exaust. Was I just tired from sitting or is it possible that I got some poisoned?

Thanks in advance :)
Thanks for the replys!
----------

Vents are up in the air, and carbon minoxide is less dense than air so it rises up into the air and through the vents, so you could've inhaled it while it was rising up, so I believed you possibly have gotten affected by the carbon minoxide and gotten tired. You are lucky, if there were no vents at all, then you would've gotten full effect. Stayed any longer and you would've gotten full effect too.  (+ info)

What would it be like for someone who died of carbon monoxide poisoning?

I was curious b/c it is the #1 used method or suicide. Here's the exact scenario:someone turns the car on in the garage and puts the windows down. Like does the gas make them fall asleep? What would it be like to die that way?
----------

you just end up passing out (or going to sleep)

and you never wake up.

thats why its called the "silent killer"... people who have leaks in their house just end up going to sleep one night and never wake up

(my moms friend and her son almost died in this manner, but my mom went over and woke them up thank god, before it was too late)  (+ info)
