What will it be like living with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis?

I got diagnosed about 2 or 3 weeks ago,and im so scared about the long term effects. Does everyone who has this disease end up disabled of deformed? Can disabilities be prevented by taking good care of yourself or no matter what it will happen? Any other information you think is helpful, thanks
Fortunately I have mild joint paint and a mild case of it.
----------

There are many medications available today that can slow the progression of joint damage and disability. Visit the website for the Arthritis Foundation -- there is a section of great info for JRA. Also, visit the RA Connect forum and join in some of the discussions. Your parents will also find the site very informative and helpful (if you still live at home). There are many JRA patients who take part in the discussions. Also, go to the website for the Department of Health and Human Services and look up JRA.  (+ info)

How can i relieve my tiredness in relation to juvenile arthritis?

ive not long been diagnosed, and im nearly always tired... how can i releive this? i have an hours sleep when i come in from school and i have my normal sleeping pattern . help?
----------

Exercise and diet would probably go a long way to treating your arthritis and will probably help with your fatigue, which is a common symptom of arthritis.

Ask your doctor about what types of exercises are best for you, but low impact ones, such as water aerobics and walking, is usually a good place to start. Make sure to avoid soccer, running, and other high impact sports whenever possible though.

Maintaining a health diet is also very important to staying healthy.  (+ info)

What are kinds of impairments of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis?

I need to know what kind of impairments can happen with the diagnosis...thank you.
----------

It can vary greatly depending on the severity of the disease, as well as the way the arthritis is managed and treated.

There are also several different types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, including Pauciarticular, Polyarticular, and Systemic arthritis, which affect the body differently.

For example, in Systemic Juvenile Arthritis, it is not uncommon for other organs to be affected by the disease. In Pauciarticular Arthritis, more than four joints are affected and it is classified by the age at which it occurs. In Polyarticular Arthritis, the arthritis typically develops symmetrically, meaning it affects joints uniformly on both sides of the body and more than five joints are affected, often the small joints.  (+ info)

Where can I get more information on juvenile high blood pressure?

Everytime I search for information all the articles are about childhood obesity. The child in question is not obese but athletic and slim. The HBP is idiopathic but the parents would still like to do something to bring it under control.
The perdiatrician says there are no HBP meds approved for children. The child is already on a low sodium diet with no improvement.
pedidoc43 - Thanks for the info but the link doesn't work. The child has had a kidney ultrasound, heart ultrasound, stress test, and a few other tests. All came back normal. Amazingly (to me) her blood pressure didn't change significantly on the tread mill.

The blood pressure is highest at night when the child is tired and also first thing it morning. During the day it drops some.
----------

His pediatrician is wrong. There are many children who have high blood pressure without having obesity and they should all be evaluated for secondary causes (kidney disease, heart disease, hormonal problems) and there is amedical therapy (ACE inhibitors, Beta blockers, etc) .You may want to check this site out from the National Kidney foundation
http://www.kidney.org/atoz/atozItem.cfm?id=164.

Good luck (I would contact a univeristy health center and look for a Pediatric nephrologist for management and treatment.  (+ info)

Is it possible for a juvenile to have a hiatus hernia?

My girlfriends son is suffering from acid reflux and it comes often with physical exertion or early in the morning. At first I thought it was nerves from going to school but after talking to him I feel assured that it is not the case. He is 12 years old a little over weight and has a history of gastric discomfort.

Alcohol IS sugar. If you have a death wish keep up the stupidity. Seems like you have a self esteem problem which will likely lead you to some serious medical problems soon. Not too smart.  (+ info)
