How do I help my wounds heal faster?

I mean physical wounds, none of that emotional crap. Anyway I've noticed that my wounds heal slowly; compared to other people. I don't want these marks on my body any longer :) thanks!

Allergy, eczema or insect bites.
Have you tried antihistamine cream on the rash?

What is that medicine called using grass or some type of plant to treat major cuts or wounds?

Well, you know how people mix some types of grass or plants to treat major wounds and cuts on TV? The medicine is like a dark green and grassy and you just put it and rub it on your wound. I know it’s actually real, but what is it called and can someone give me more information on it? Thanks!

How can I immunize myself against my fear of blood and wounds?

I would really like to be a Physical Therapist, but there is one problem, I feel like I want to pass out at the sight of blood or wounds. I understand that PT's have to deal with injured people a lot and this is something I need to get used to. Any ideas about how I can get used to blood and needles without publicly embarassing myself because I really would like to do this.

experience is the only thing that will get you used to it. Get a job at a hospital.  (+ info)

Suggestions on what to apply on wounds to prevent it to form keloids?

My ex had undergone an operation for exision of tumor on the forehead.
He is worried because his skin forms keloids after wounds are healed,
and there is a big chance this would also turn into keloids...
any suggestions?

However, it's also good to know what types of treatments may work, so when you do talk to him you have so knowledge of the options available.

Both Dr Larson, Interim Chair of Plastic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Dr Sila Sen, of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (a teaching hospital of Harvard medical) agree on the following treatments:

Corticosteroid Injections These are made directly into the skin lesion and repeated every 3-4 weeks for six months. Steroids relieve itching and pain, and slow down collagen formation, causing the keloid to shrink. This procedure may be combined with surgery to excise any remaining lesion.

Compression Dressings Silicone gel sheeting is placed over the lesion and secured with tape or a bandage for at least 12 hours. This process is used to apply pressure to the keloid to flatten it. The dressing is reapplied every 7-10 days, and the treatment may continue over a period of 3-12 months.

Surgery Surgical excision is usually done in combination with corticosteroid injections. In the most severe cases, radiation therapy is used to prevent recurrence.

Cryosurgery This method is used to freeze small, contained lesions. Cryosurgery may done in combination with corticosteroid injections.

Radiation Therapy Radiation therapy is highly successful, but limited due to the toxicities.

Interferon-alfa Interferon-alfa injections may reduce recurrence rates after surgery.

Intralesional Fluorouracil Intralesional fluorouracil (5-FU) may be of benefit for keloids.

Treatment options may vary, and your doctor may recommend more than one depending on your condition.  (+ info)

What are the advantages to using sutures to close wounds?

Can you please help me to answer the following questions?
It is urgent .
BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS !!!!!!!!!

1) What are the advantages to using sutures to close wounds?
2) How do pig skin and human skin differ?
3) If this were a human patient being sutures, what procedures would be performed prior to the actual suturing?

Thank you for all your help !!!!!!
----------

1) What are the advantages to using sutures to close wounds? = it will minimize the building of "scaring tissue" and help produce a more soft-looking healing wound. Some sutures may even be avoided if strong enough membrane (substance) is used (viteline membrane, from the egg, for instance) that will stick both sides of the wound together. Again, some "crazy glue" has been used and also some self-absorving stitches (in the heart).

2) How do pig skin and human skin differ? = hair follicles are wider and separated more apart, also deeper, its DNA is different - although somehow similar - thickness, etc... a pig is a pig, "an abominable animal", and Man is a creation of the Creator. No comparison.

3) If THERE were a human patient being sutureD, what procedures would be performed prior to the actual suturing? = sterilization is a must. Cleansing of the wound also; (glass, poison, sand and other elements must be removed before suturing, etc )

Hope this helped...  (+ info)

How does hydrogen peroxide work to heal cuts and wounds?

How exactly does hydrogen peroxide work to heal cuts and wounds?
----------

I use it when my earpiercing holes get infected. Its a strong chemical/alcohol that is so potent it destroys all germs.
And it is safe to use on skin and wounds and it is 100 percent PAINLESS! To tell if the wound is infected.. pour some on it, if it bubbles and fizzes... its killing infection... if it doesnt... its not. :) I love it... it reduces an infection from 2weeks to 5days  (+ info)

Does salt just agitate wounds or does it help it sort of like the burn of alcohol does?

Salt burns like alcohol on wounds, is it helping or just annoyingly agitating?
----------

Both straight salt and alcohol just agitate the wound and damage the tissue further.
Your best bet is to gently clean the wound with water or saline solution (which is a salt water mix that when done right tastes like ocean water).  (+ info)
