whooping cough?

I am allergic to the Pertussis vaccine, as we found out when the vaccination almost killed me as a baby. So every few years I get a rellapse even though everyone else I know is immune. Whooping cough is....really unpleasant to say the least. It's actually quite a horrible disease which can be fatal. I've had it 3 times. I heard that it's quite rare to get the disease now a days, so I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is allergic to the vaccine too or if you know any real statistics. PS I already checked wikipedia.
----------

I would highly reccomend seeing a Classical Homeopath in your area. Pertussis is not rare first of all and it went crazy in the midwest and Tx. for about 11 mos. last yr. The statistics for the disease itself can be tracked at the CDC website. The information that they are reluctant to give out is the fact that over 90% of the people who have contracted the disease were vaccinated for it. And you are far from alone concerning your reaction to the vacc. itself.  (+ info)

What is the difference between whooping cough and normal cough?

My 12 weeks old baby has been coughing since a few weeks back. Started with one or two coughs a day. Now she coughs about about 5 to 6 coughs a day. Yeatsrday she had 3 coughs when she was sleeping. Obviously her coughs are more now. Is it possible that its whooping cough or am I just too worried?
She would also sneeze one to 3 times a day sometimes, but the sneezing had been there since a few days after birth so we thought it is quite normal.
----------

If she had whooping cough, she would have a high fever and difficulty breathing. She would cough until she vomited. Sounds to me like the problem is that the air she is breathing in is too dry. Perhaps she has allergies to something in your house.

Take her to a doctor and find out why she is coughing  (+ info)

How do I start breathing with Whooping Cough?

I'm not entirely sure if I have whooping cough or not, but when I cough I can't breathe in after I cough, I need to know how to start breathing quickly after I cough? I get a tiny bit of air in, but not enough. I panic a lot if I can't keep calm. Is there anything I can do?

Read this, see if it sounds like that. If it does - you should call the doctor instead of going to see him, he might not want you in the surgery with sick kids and that about:

How well do the whooping cough vaccines work?

There has been an outbreak of whooping cough at my children's school for the past couple months. My daughter's best friend had it over a month ago and today I found out a child in my son's class had it.

My children are ages 9 and 7 and have been fully immunized. Could they still get it? I know that immunity wears down after a time, but they're still both too young to get the booster shot.
----------

Whooping cough outbreaks are cyclical, with higher numbers occurring every three to five years. The outbreaks usually occur as the vaccine begins to lose effectiveness in older children and teens. The following link is to a FluTrackers thread that is very informative concerning whooping cough outbreaks:

If your children are too young for the booster, just be sure they are getting the proper amount of sleep at night and proper nutrition. If they aren't already taking a good multivitamin supplement, you might want to start that now, or at least high quality Vitamin A, C and D supplements. You can also give them probiotics, such as yogurt with live cultures, DanActive, or a good probiotic supplement like PB8.

Other natural immune boosters include Echinacea, garlic, onion, and ginger  (+ info)

What affect will whooping cough have on my baby?

Im 38weeks 4days pregnant - and just found out i have whooping cough! I have been given antibiotics to treat it, and hopefully it wont get any worse. I know that whooping cough is fatal in babies. My question is will my baby be affected by me having whooping cough while pregnant, or is it only if she we to be born in the next few days?? will she be okay?
----------

Since you have it and not the fetus, and you will be well before delivery, the infant will simply have a nice dose of antibodies against pertussis at birth - affording it more protection then most babies are born with.  (+ info)

My 2 month old preemie was tested for Whooping Cough today and I forgot to ask the doctor how long it would take for the results. Does anyone know? I do know that we go back to the doctor on Friday.
----------

Cultures are typically incubated 10-14 days, although results are generally available in 7-10 days.

How does Whooping Cough - Bordetella pertussis enter your body and what does it do to you?

How does Whooping Cough - Bordetella pertussis enter your body and what does it do to you Thanks

Spencer,
----------

It is spread by others coughing and sneezing around you and then you "breathe" it in. It is very contagious around small children and very dangerous. That is why they have vaccines for the children. It effects the lungs and people have died from it. Hope this helps. Peace  (+ info)
